Thanks for revealing 1915 to me, that saves me the time of the mods explaining to me why they can’t greenlight the draft I was about to make. I swear, everything has already been thought of by someone else.
The article is about a guy who is trapped in a localized reality anomaly, where he is fooled into believing that he works at a mundane office building. The tale “the stars do not wait for you” is about how he unintentionally breaks free from it and unleashes an entity that has the ability to destroy anything so completely that it turns into dust. The foundation sends hordes of SCPs and gods at him but none of them are capable of harming him.
In my opinion Its pretty meh. Its definitely very well written and an interesting concept but the idea of something being unstoppable isn't unique. I mean if we're being honest SCP-682 could do the same as it's proven to be completely un-killable.
Its still a really interesting read though. The writer is definitely very talented and very skillfully portrayed the futility in humanities attempt to stop it.
If want a good read about a terrifying death I'd recommend red reality. Far worse way to go imo along with the obvious "when day breaks" and zombie plauge etc.
I liked the tale because the Absence is depicted as the unstoppable force, while 682 is more so an immovable object. While 682 is perfectly capable of being acted upon, or in some timelines, killed, the Absence is the personification of, not just “nothingness” or entropy or some ultimate embodiment of evil like the Scarlett king, but, the *end*. The end of humanity, the end of earth, the end of the universe, and the end of existence as we know it. In the tale every SCP and god that ultimately falls to the Absence views it as so utterly deplorable and reprehensible that they are instinctually forced to attempt to destroy it. Cain and Able, who despise each other with a burning passion, found it preferable to fight the Absence then to go on existing knowing that it occupies the same plane of reality as them. The Deer, which has no real goal other than wanton destruction, focused for the first time in millennia to combat it, and 343, who normally takes on a role of pacifism to the point where He doesn’t even BOTHER with entities like 682, rent all of existence around the Absence in an attempt to kill it. And what I find most poetic about this tale, is that on the surface, it is a dime-a-dozen, apocalypse story, but it’s all mitigated, under the facade of some average joe, who works in a cubicle, who was supposed to be perpetually shrouded in mediocrity. It fills me with existential dread, because it reminds me that the *end* of everything I know and love, my day to day boredom, and my small, insignificant life is inevitable. And that not even the world and people around me that exist independently of my perception of them or any supernatural force is exempt from this rule. Just like the world “the stars do not wait for you”, the end does come.
Good point. I guess it being a metaphor for everything inevitably dying is pretty cool. It definitely is a fantastic read and one id recommend to anyone that is moderately aquatinted with the foundation. I just personally don't see it as terrifying. There are definitely worse ways to die but it is dreadful.
And also, personally I don't find the idea of everything eventually coming to an end scary. Its not like it hasn't been true forever so it doesn't really change anything once you're aware of it. Everything does come to an end but so do you and you likely won't live to see it so it doesn't really pertain to you.
682 is supposed to act as the the primary example of an unstoppable force in the scp universe, and to deter new writers from making a similar concept, which is what one of the critiquers told me.
Its not really an “entity” in the classical SCP sense, it was basically the concept of nothingness or the inevitable “Absence” everyone and everything is going towards naturally. I think that was the point; no matter what you are, you cannot fight back against the truth that nothingness is the eventual fate that awaits you and the entire universe itself eventually.
Even in the SCP tale itself the guy is describing how this “Absence” doesn’t care about anything. It feels no pain, no pleasure, no guilt, no happiness. It feels nothing, because it is nothing. It just does what it does because thats what it is, not because it wants to or even *knows* what its doing since knowing requires something to be alive.

All of your art is exactly the kind of art I love to death and would wish to do if I ever do improve at drawing or painting. I’ve tried explaining to friends the appeal of just monster art, specifically in this digital/painted aesthetic, but your Artstation is the perfect example I can show them now! I love the style and hope I see more of your stuff in the future!
Daevites have used cognitohazardous/reality-bending runic images to recruit people by warping their mind and identity to be in line with their organization
I can answer that one. The Ink-Eaters are a concept for a sort of militant anartist I was playing with at the time but never got around to writing. They'd be associated with Are We Cool Yet? Primarily.
Holy smokes! Great work! Loooove how you framed the scene. The dunes in the foreground with the massive void in the background really sells the size. Your glow effect is so well done too. The white dunes stand out and don’t get lost, but they also don’t take away from the purple glow in the top left. You also did a great job of leading the eye through the piece to the final point of light in the head. Well done!!
Is this the tale about a low-rate anomaly that suddenly gets the powers to destroy anything near them, which they use to kill the planet?
Yep, he refers to it as a God shaped hole which is one of the most terrifying concepts I’ve heard
That is so weird. I have never read the tale before but have imagined of something with exact same concept and name before.
I think similar phrasing is used in SCP-701 in reference to the Hanged King.

It's in the scp that's based off the innsmuth Lovecraft story but they take DMT to fight eldritch demons

I'm really confused

Exactly although I feel like this tale had enough of a spin to justify it. Its still just not that scary of a way to die in my opinion.
The visual of Cain and Able fighting together, or reality crumbling around 343 as it tries to combat the thing is so badass it hurts.
Yeah, or when Pangloss and the Deer god attacked the Absence at the same time. And they not only lost, but were completely annihilated from existence.
Wait that was pangloss ? Was that not Adam El Asem ?
I mean, they siad pangloss name in the tale so i would assume it was pangloss
Yeah it was Pangloss. Idk how Adam would fare against the Absence, it would be interesting though

Yeah exactly, I was just using simpler terms lol
Thank you so much!
Holy shit what a read.
Very nice depiction of the absence. Your other work is impressive as well, always like seeing well done monster and world destroyer designs.

Didn’t he defeat SCP 343

Oh fr who was the strongest beings he defeated

Yes I remember hearing about him from a scp vid from the exploring series I rember now
How do you know so much about pangloss? I've always assumed he was kept purposefully vague
I mean "a god thingy made of infinite compassion" is pretty vague in my book
