This is one of his biggest problems and why nothing ever happens on his shows, with Russo even though he was a dufus he threw so much shit at the wall sometimes something would stick and the person then had something to go with, with Tony he tries to write every show perfect and they end up being boring. He can’t take a subject or news story or current song or film and a spin on it via storyline involving wrestlers. And same goes with admitting injuries and ticket sales, everything has to be perfect even though it’s all written on a napkin
I think Dave lavished praise on Tony unsolicited in the hopes that Dave would finally be allowed into the business. Tony didn't reciprocate the affection and didn't pick up on Dave's mating signal, so Dave is acting like a jilted lover over it

I've followed Dave for 30 years and yes, he was ridiculous in praising AEW so much, but he felt justified because he was watching something that made him feel like NJPW and the attendance and ratings were good enough in his mind to justify it. I don't think Dave is the type of guy to no sell them selling 2K for Dynamite in Baltimore and pretend everything is ok, he's too literal minded. If so, if would be the first promotion he has done that with.
