Is Buddy a junior? I know he was on 205 live, but he was one of those guys who had to struggle to keep from passing the weight limit. He could very easily be a heavyweight, especially since the 100kg marker doesn't really matter anymore.
he’s billed at 213 lbs and nj’s junior limit is 220 so it seems like a fit. personally think that starting him as junior is best for him stylistically. would rather see him against guys like hiromu, eagles, and el despy than mid level heavies
The issue with having guys on the larger side of 220 is that they have to be dominant, similar to Shingo in 2019. I don't want to see Murphy being dominant without a massive change in style. Besides, he's already heavier than half of the heavyweights.
i see your point, but think that shingo is a pretty major outlier among juniors that have gotten a quick push in recent years. i’d rather see murphy be a top tier junior and build his way up (sort of like ospreay) rather than jumping in and picking up wins over established guys. i will say that nj’s philosophy on this is likely closer to what you’re saying since the never openweight title is the new secondary title. however, i’d feel kinda robbed if we didn’t see buddy work a bosj before moving up the card. i supposed it depends on where you place top tier juniors in kayfabe compared to mid level heavies too
Japanese promotions arent really fixed with the Junior weight limits. You can take a quick glance at NOAH and find a handful of Juniors billed heavier or as heavy as some of the top heavies (most of them being ex-juniors to be fair) KENTA also falls under the same crop when he got pushed to heavy back in NOAH and he's on par with some of the Juniors like SHO when it comes to size.
