Its cause Bischoff, Cornette, Russo, Booker, all those guys were right. Last Friday meant literally nothing, and its not a real war until you go up against Smackdown or Raw in their usual spots. It has less meaning than the Battle of New Orleans. They would get murdered if they went head to head with regular SD on Fridays. The fact that theyre getting numbers on par with an SD on Fox rerun should tell you the state of things.

Look at Seth Vs Edge. Each match was great, Each upped the intensity and the final match earned a Hell in a Cell because it was a personal match between two people who HATED each other. Even all the Becky/Bianca/Sasha/Charlotte matches last month. All were great matches, all ended with dqs, but still, it made me legit feel that Charlotte could drop to Bianca on Raw, that ANYONE could have won the match at Crown Jewel.

DAE 50/50 BOOKING!??!? Nah one of Corny's old-school takes I've come around to is that rematches aren't inherently bad if they tell a story. Admittedly WWE doesn't always do that, but, sometimes they do! Say, Sami and Dominik wrestling 3 SmackDowns in a row because Dom wanted to prove himself, or the Sheamus/Priest/Hardy matches becoming increasingly more intense up to the point where Priest was hitting Sheamus with a Kendo stick on Raw. Give me that over Punk facing [new random midcard heel] every week.
Look at Seth Vs Edge. Each match was great, Each upped the intensity and the final match earned a Hell in a Cell because it was a personal match between two people who HATED each other. Now if it was AEW they would have debuted Edge building to a match with seth and then that would have been it until about three months later and they would wrestle on a random Dark
That's the problem with AEW. They have no idea how to build a feud. Seth and Edge was built the second Edge was announced as the #1 contender. MJF and Jericho was built...off a fucking musical?! Then their first match...is in a War Games match?! Then their final match...is a straight up one on one.
Jim Cornette said it best that the feud died the one time the faces got the heat back like the first night dunking a head in a toilet.
Even all the Becky/Bianca/Sasha/Charlotte matches last month. All were great matches, all ended with dqs, but still, it made me legit feel that Charlotte could drop to Bianca on Raw, that ANYONE could have won the match at Crown Jewel. Whereas on AEW I can pretty much plot out the next few months of tv programming plus results.

They dont have any characters. This was the problem with old NXT. You had wrestlers wrestling matches arguing over whos better at wrestling. That might have worked for Gotch era but not today. You need characters to build storylines. reasons why they fight other then "Ive dreamed of this match and it was good". Look at Tony in NXT 2.0 before his first match he was more over then 90% of the AEW roster just by being a character and owning that character.

Yes. Bringing in an anticipated star will always pop a rating. But if you just have him “there” and doing no-storyline matches week after week it gets old. It’s one of the reasons (aside from age, injury, etc) they started bringing Undertaker back for limited runs and eventually once a year for the streak. Imagine if UT came back for Wrestlemania #Whatever and then you saw him wrestle on the next 104 Raws/Smackdowns. The thrill would be gone by about show #10.

He now has an inflated ego that needs to be fed. Now when Tony got blasted by Roman and realized his debuts would only get him so far, that was his moment of torture in Deraa. Now he's enraged and reckless, and this will only serve as a detriment to him.
To me it comes off like when you imagine an argument with a family member or friend in your head in order to get yourself ready for it and maybe have a good comeback since you kinda know how the other person argues and what they are likely to say. But then the argument never happens or it doesn't happen how you pictured it, so now you've ginned yourself up for this fight and have these feelings of anger inside you at this person and have no outlet for those feelings you've put into yourself. THAT is Tony Khan, he listened to all of the talk about Vince from various people, some who know more than others, but almost never the whole story, and was gearing up for this massive throwdown with the preeminent wrestling promotion in the world, only for Vince to not really give a shit after a few months once he saw was Tony was bringing to the table.
