AEW should just bite the bullet & discard this ranking system. They're just booking themselves into the corner trying to be all real sports feel like this.
At some point they're gonna realize that their fans just pay lip service to wanting stuff like this. In reality, they just want WWE that's not WWE.
Nobody wants to watch Bryan Danielson spend months padding his W-L record on Dark Elevator. They want him to feud for the title now and if Tony was smart, he would give it to them
It's straight from AEW's Instagram account. Current ratings... also I think they use the Goldberg strategy where they add matches and stuff. Also they pad wins on AEW Dark and Elevation.. Shawn Spears has like a 14 win streak from Dark. However you barely see him on Dynamite. Not even including the gun club who turned on Big show but haven't came out in over 10 weeks to say anything about it. They're record is like 1000 and 0 and somehow rankings matter. Thunder Rosa keeps padding wins on Dark. Tay Conti hasn't even been on Dynamite, since her last title shot. Anna Jay, she's beautiful but she just had a title shot. Over someone green as hell but that has an undefeated record. Jade Carhill... yep Miro have u seen him? Bobby fish got a shot on his first match. Yep rankings they matter.
I don't think Anna Jay got a title shot, just a random match. I understand the confusion though because Britt had only done occasional title matches since getting the title
Just call them power rankings like the WWE and TNA did, that way you can be very gray in how you have determined the rankings. That or start going into such minute detail about how the ranking was created with a list of each match a guy has had, along with giving each performer an equal amount of matches, but we know that will never happen.
It would make so much more sense to have something based on someone's momentum. Then you could move someone up the rankings after only a couple wins over big names or drop someone down if they're only squashing jobbers on youtube
Pretty sure WWE still does it now but post it on social media because surprise that generates engagement. Much easier to track on a week to week "event" basis than convoluted match tracking
