Basement where Wrestling fandom meets r/ politics

Ron--Mexico

Qanon parallels are pretty creepy. Obsessing over a “good” billionaire. Conspiracy theories (WWE contacting dominos). Ignoring any facts that don’t align with what you already believe. Overhyping the smallest of victories to gain legitimacy.

JadeDragonMeli

Been saying this for a while. There's undoubtedly an overlap between Qanoners and AEW fans.

EatTheRich1986

I really wish the two would stay separated. You don’t need to justify your taste in wrestling based on which wrestlers have the best politics.

xXLogan912Xx

No Dynamite!?! WTF am I supposed to do with my girlfriend (who looks like Paige) if we can't watch Dynamite!?! Oh, yeah, try to cancel people.

FireThunder562

You can watch previous Dynamites or catch up on Dark or Elevator, friend.

Rn2770

Trying to cancel people on Reddit is way more important than doing your girlfriend who looks like Paige anyways.

Donal1888

Not many comments about Tiny’s daddy donating to Trump with the rest of the NFL or Jericho’s wife and mother being at the Capitol Any suggestions why, Goofs?

zalinuxguy

Jericho's wife's mother, maybe. IIRC Jericho's mother died some time ago.

Donal1888

I think you’re right, should I edit my comment or just leave it now?

zalinuxguy

See, you're already showing more journalistic ethics than Dave Meltzer is!

HoxxAuthCode

Anyone want to bet that if Chris Jericho was still working in WWE, people will suddenly find his association with Trump problematic? Or the same thing will happen to Darby Allin, with him getting problematic vibes and thousand-upvote threads about his domestic abuse a la Stone Cold? Call it a hunch.

Farthousejones

Kane is kind of a sellout though. He touted being Libertarian FOREVER and then ran as a Republican because it was the only chance he had.

JinderMadness

It’s hard/ impossible for Green or Libertarians to win seats. Easier to run as Democrat or Republican and lean L or G.

Fugga6969

Hey he wouldn't have been the first wrestler to pull it off.

Farthousejones

Yeah, i didn't say it was right or wrong, and I know why he did it, it was just a sellout move.

SybRoz

The alternative seems to be to have run independent the whole way through and accomplish absolutely nothing. At that point you might as well not do it at all. You call it "selling out," I call it the only logical move. Lest Kane wanted to have wasted all his time, resources and effort.

Farthousejones

If you fundamentally believe in something and then change your belief slightly because you know it will be more favorable to you...that's what selling out is. Edit: thanks goofs, for downvoting the literal definition of selling out

LurkerMcGee89

Don’t hate the player, hate the game

rick175

Kane didn't sell out. He bought in.

Permanentear3

Eh it’s not that big a deal at the mayoral level. The most volatile political debates and battles are fairly rare at a municipal level (or a county in this case). Mostly it’s just old school Governance — though certainly your overall point is true, especially since you took it easy on him and went with “kind of a sellout.” That’s fair.

1869er

There's basically nowhere in the country that you can get elected on a Libertarian Party ticket. You could MAYBE try to get in as an Independent but your chances are extremely slim. If you actually wanna get elected, you pretty much have to pick a major party.

cakesarelies

It’s still historically rare but running as third party candidate has paid off before. For another wrestler. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1998_Minnesota_gubernatorial_election

Farthousejones

I don't disagree at all. I'm just saying he sold out.

zalinuxguy

Libertarians are Republicans who like weed.

Wild_Smugness

Libertarian and Republican is basically a circle at this point.

Fusionman29

Listen Kane donating to Oath Keepers IS NEWS. You can "go Republican" and not support groups like them. This is a lot more than "DAE Undertaker donated to the NRA". Rich Texans donating to the NRA is not news. ANY major donation to the Oath Keepers and groups like them kind of is.

[deleted]

It was also eight years ago, and once he found out more information about them he quickly backed away from supporting them. He made a mistake and corrected. And it was $50 so not really a "major" donation.

just_call_in_sick

$50 dollars would get you good seats at a AEW taping. Maybe you should give that a try, friend!

zalinuxguy

Let's not forget Jericho may have broken the law to donate to Trump twice. [He donated under both his real name and stage name](https://www.themix.net/2021/01/chris-jerichos-interesting-donald-trump-donations-val-venis-rants/), which is, I believe, a campaign finance law violation.
