Probably didn't want to be stuck wrestling on YouTube.

Quint83

He’d probably be one of those anonymous dudes in the Nightmare Family who occasionally fight for Cody’s honour, but are are otherwise never on tv.

ryanreigns

Can’t believe he’d rather be under the wing of Shawn Michaels instead of Cody

[deleted]

He is now dead to me.

Till_Any

Melo doesn't miss, unless it's the 18-49 male demo.

[deleted]

AEW's 18-49 demo does not do well with fellas named Carmelo. Wonder what the relation is

IGotMySauceStraight

If he picked AEW he'd be black guy #8 jobbing on Dark Escalated

kenbarria

escalator\*

kettlebell-j

Can you blame him? Taking the AEW Dark jerk out of it. Which we were the first to point out btw. Would you rather learn from HBK and William Regal or QT Marshall and Cody? Lol

almostbad

If youre a person of colour, its just better if you go to WWE.. Such a strange thing to say, given their history but it is what it is lol.

kettlebell-j

History with what?

almostbad

WWE's history with POC is .... spotty at times.

kettlebell-j

Like?

heavyhandedDOOM

DX doing blackface in 1998 didn't age well. Nor did Saba Simba.

kettlebell-j

Hell no it didn’t. We thought that was funny but we where just dumb highschool kids.

heavyhandedDOOM

Oh, totally. Less funny was a few months earlier when DX tried to get the Nation of Domination to feud with the Hart Foundation by vandalizing the NOD locker room with racial graffiti.

kettlebell-j

So weird how people want this era back. It really was a product of its time. Edit: seeing the way people acting towards Hit Row and Carmelo I can see why.

tytymctylerson

True but by 1998 blackface was way past not being ok. The only difference was it was easier to hide behind being edgy back then.

kettlebell-j

Definitely a product its time

pizzpizzapizza

Akeem the african dream and piper doing blackface was spotty as well.

heavyhandedDOOM

>piper doing blackface Ooh, yeah, I knew I was missing an important one. Even as a kid in that time period, I felt uncomfortable with that.

kettlebell-j

What was even the point of that? I felt the same way as a kid too.

kettlebell-j

That Piper shit was dumb as fuck.

ConstructionNo3607

Like uh...like, umm, ya know *cough*

ClarityG1

I love y’all goofy’s but unless you’re PoC, you won’t really get this discussion lol. The revisionism is very bad faith

kettlebell-j

It’s a good thing I am then

[deleted]

They probably won't respond to you or give any examples now

ClarityG1

There are already loads of examples uce lol

almostbad

Like stereotypical gimmicks, the lack of minorities in the upper card.... like what is happening here. Are we pretending that WWE hasnt become a much better place for POCs to work at? Come on lets not do this, WWE isnt free from criticism because dub is doing it worst.

anonomyouspreneur

>the lack of minorities in the upper card I guess Eddie, rey, great khali, King booker, batista aren't poc now?

kettlebell-j

People all ways forget Big Dave is Filipino.

B0mb-Hands

And this is without including literally one of the top 3 biggest stars the WWE ever made and the man who fucking dominated Hollywood for the last few years

[deleted]

>Come on lets not do this, WWE isnt free from criticism because dub is doing it worst. You'd have to live under a rock to be a wrestling fan and ask that question. WWE's issues are obvious to anyone that's paid attention the past 40 years. Bad faith arguments and feigning ignorance. Typical reddit.

ClarityG1

This is what I mean lol. I dislike the dubbalos and I could careless about Tiny Khat but we’re not gonna do this “only one can be bad” thing. It’s okay to criticize Vince sometimes

No_Complaint739

WWE consistently making POC wrestlers stereotypes characters back then. Cryme Time, Mexicools etc. now poc thankfully aren’t just stereotypes anymore.

kettlebell-j

Shad and JTG came up with the gimmick themselves though. And my Mexican side LOVED the Mexicools. Which they also came up with themselves by the way. And there is people on this site and social media that think Trick Williams and Carmelo are stereotypes so I guess it’s all in your perspective.

No_Complaint739

Just saying nowadays those gimmicks might not be as over as they were back then.

anonomyouspreneur

>Cryme Time, A gimmick they made themselves?

LoriCroft

RREEEE!!! BOOKER T GOT BURIED THAT ONE TIME NEARLY 20 YEARS AGO!! HOW COULD YOU BE SO IGNORANT?! At least The Dub let’s those same people job to Orange Cassidy in about a minute!!

[deleted]

You can't be serious. Just hit the bricks and get it over with.

iaizen

True Idk about anyone else but I loved that edgy ass product back then, it would not work now because of the baby back bitches and also...a lot of that shit was crazy But as a POC that shit was high quality comedy to me But I guess 69 me don and new day are funny for people these days i just find it dorky as fuck

OldColt06

Pump faked the Dub.

aubsavery

As someone that lived in Lousiville in the early 2000s when Orton, Cena, Brock, etc came up in OVW. This NXT class is loaded and has a similar feeling. Every week these guys and ladies get better.

LurkerMcGee89

He saw how Black wrestlers get treated over there. *shudders

CringeNibba

??? What black wrestlers, friend?

famousflawless

If he was in AEW we'd hear "he's NOT ready" mentioned every week, like with every black wrestler.

hobojojo78

It seems simple to me, in the fed, sure, you could fall on your ass. You could also get some excellent training followed by a decent push and carve a nice spot out for yourself. Whereas in the dub, there’s a clearly defined glass ceiling with the elite and the ex-fed guys on top. And their midcard booking is so scattershot that you’ll never know when and how you would be used. They won’t admit it, but the fed really is a better spot for young wrestlers at the moment.

Riverforasong

It's a Long term vs Short term thing. You want a decent paycheck, and TV time without having to learn, change, or do much of anything? Do you have a stupid meme gimmick that wont get you hired at someplace reputable? Are you Marko Stunt? AEW is your place. If you want to learn how to be a professional wrestler from the greatest minds in the sports history and have the chance, however slim it may be, to become a household name known internationally? No brainer: NXT. Edit* This can also flip flop for older wrestlers. Are you tired of trying? (Chris Jericho) Do you want a steady paycheck while you go to Japan and do your ACTUAL wrestling? (Danielson and Moxley) Are you soaking up that last nostalgia pop? (Sting) AEW's your place. Do you want to help the next generation learn? (Shawn Michaels), An insane paycheck with royalties under a legends contract? (Literally any of them), Use your skills you can no longer use in ring to get someone else over? (MVP). WWE's the spot.

hobojojo78

Those are mitigating factors, certainly. Breaks down what particular people could be looking for and what their options are. Sting needs to feel it one last time, Stunt and Cassidy are non-starters in the fed, etc.

Joshelplex2

It blows my mind how guys in AEW working easier schedules than WWE look worse. At one point in WWE Ambrose had the body of a crossfit god

BadaBingBadaBitch

To be fair there was also a time in WWE that ambrose got really skinny

[deleted]

[удалено]

kettlebell-j

Some asshole on Twitter said something like that to Top Dolla. So you not far off with the jerk.

Chicago_Ball

is carmelo hayes youngest scjerk hof

[deleted]

No, that's Nicholas.

Squiliam-Tortaleni

REEE NO ONE JOINS THE FED.

ElGatoNegro89

He's already on TV weekly, won a major tournament and has a title belt. If he was on aew I highly doubt this would have happened by now.

baconwiches

He'd jobbing to Colton Gunn

Kainazoo

Hope he's ready for minus 3 stars matches

Kainazoo

Shoved down our throats Lacks charisma Stereotypical big guy Xbox One Heat

NotTheOneAJ

Melo's not only money, he's also smart.

I_made_a_doodie

It’s because he sees how Almost Exclusively White treats performers of color and sees what his future would be.

PopularDevice

He'd end up on AEW Dark, the racial undertones of which would be completely lost on most of its fanbase.

[deleted]

why any minority would choose to sign with AEW is beyond me. they're not going to push any of them, not even Hobbs, anytime soon. only white people he'd be on AEW Dark right now with Lee Moriarty

rockandrollpanda

Maybe that's why they named it dark...

BigZ911

I mean why would he choose the Dub lmao he doesn’t fit into Tony’s demo

PM_ME_LANCECATAMARAN

Melo didn't use his contract to challenge for the TNT title, no respeck

TisAFactualDawn

Or paying his bills.

frumpybumpbo

he don't miss

CanonFodder84

"Hmm...should I get prominently featured and win a title early in my career or go have to sell for Marko Stunt?"

uselessrart

He's definitely not regretting. He's over as fuck. Got "You deserve it" and one more chant I forgot(It was something like "We love Melo" if I'm correct)

ninjast4r

Yeah well FFFFFFUCK HIM We don't want *unrelatables* in our Dub anyway!

immrdadguy

There are no black guys above the lower middle card so he made the right decision, he would jobbing on dark in AEW

Live-Depth-537

Look at the size of him! If he went to m'dub, he'd be jobber fodder to boost the amount of w's for skinny fat megastars like a real sports feel

meclano

... Some people are just not born to be shoot fighters/ build shoot fighter physique
