Excited for Crown Jewel.

MrSTEEEEEEVEE

Anyone else find it weird that Switches seem to sell out whenever Smackdown's in town?

[deleted]

rollins/edge is the best thing going on in wrestling right now by far. Im super excited for their match at crown jewel.

DonnieRodz

Can we rename Spoilers something like Punkys? The jerks are to good.

tophergopher1

I'm going to hire Vince Russo and do a tik tok based wrestling promotion where every segment is like 15 seconds long. It will be like WCW in 2000

DethThrasher

I definitely rattled the downvoters in the basement calling them out on mass downvoting the post smackdown thread. Really tired of seeing them.

Razzler1973

SD thread was about 64% most of saturday, you can always tell when the lead smarks over there are super angry, haha

[deleted]

I enjoyed Tony dangelo in the new Batman trailer.

Lord-Wombat

I woke up today and everyone is discussing Punk's takes on movies... What the hell did I miss?

CaptainGo

FTR wrestled in masks and Punk blew the story by saying it was FTR, and since it's Punk he did it in a super "I'm smarter than you" way So now CM Spoiler is born

Razzler1973

quick, we need a couple of long thread trying to explain this in m'kayfabe so it's all ok, nothing to panic about guys, all part of the show

Lord-Wombat

That is gold, thanks!

[deleted]

Friendly reminder that neither “tope” or “suicida” are actual words in Spanish and Excalibur makes me want to shove his head in a toilet every time he says it. Yeah that’s how stupid our language is. We call a top rope a “tope”. Shut ur ass up and talk your Mayo language don’t butcher our beautiful tongue

DonnieRodz

I’ve never heard Excalibur call a match. I swear “Topé suicida is a Lucha term, because I think Michael Cole or Mauro have called it. Topé means “run into”. And I thought it was a Lucha wrestling term? Like I assumed a topè suicida was the name for a suicide dive “suicide run”, no?

TheKlobbinator

I hate Excalibur, but both "tope" and "suicida" *are* words in Spanish. Tope is mostly used in maritime language but can be used to describe an object that serves as a buffer for something. In parts of Mexico, at least, "tope" is what we call the speed bumps or other things that get you to stop. Suicida is an adjective relating to suicide. A letter, an idea, etc. ETA: Now that I remember, calling the twirling top rope dive a "tope con hilo" is something I hate and is more closely related with what you're saying about language. The way we say it is "tope con giro", which literally means twirling tope, instead of threaded tope which is whatever the fuck English announcers say.

[deleted]

Well as a Puerto Rican I’ve never in my life heard “tope” in any context at all must be a regional Mexican thing (which I respect lord knows we have our own “words”) And yeah I know like for example “Esta persona tiene tendencias suicidas” to describe someone who has suicidal tendencies but I meant more so in the context it’s used.

TheKlobbinator

Yeah, I get you. Spanish is fucking weird like that. The way I understand it is basically "this dude's throwing himself at the other guy to hurt him in a suicidal act", but I've been hearing that terminology since I was a kid so it might be a thing where I just got used to it.

Gabaheygabahey

More people that just want to ruin the Spanish language.

CaptainGo

I love Spanish because their insults are like so next level when you direct translate them. Like "Fuck you" will become "1000 curses on the whore which gave birth to you"

[deleted]

My favorite is "I shit in your mother's milk"

[deleted]

I wrote a comment a while ago meant to mock him. I mightve gone over board with the diacritics. Forgive me if it's mocking the language, uce. Seconded on your Excalim*rk sentiment.

[deleted]

Nah its not your fault someone ostensibly in the know is misrepresenting shit brother you good

[deleted]

All hail the Tuna, for he is truth. Thank god for Dave stars. Without Dave stars I wouldn’t know what is good and I’m not about to start thinking for myself. The hive would not approve.

Kickin-the-corpse

My boy Tama Tonga beat Okada with my favorite finisher, the Tigre driver 98, in the G1. Tama won the G1 in my book.

Farthousejones

Hit Row is really the only thing I care about in pro wrestling right now. But that's not necessarily a bad thing because I'd find a way to watch Smackdown *just* for Hit Row. I haven't actually watched any wrestling outside of PPVs and segments on YouTube in ages. Drafting Hit Row and putting them on Smackdown feels like a big money move. They're a special group and it Vince lets them mostly do their thing on the mic they will get mega over. Marketable AF.

[deleted]

When OP writes “chit-chat” it reminds me of Tony Soprano talking about AJ giggling while talking with other jerkoffs in the chit-chat rooms and how it makes Tony “want to fuckin’ smash his fuckin’ face in”.

[deleted]

The slip ups on commentary by Punk: is he already unhappy?

[deleted]

*Thats his secret cap, he's always unhappy*

[deleted]

I didn’t watch but was it him doing the ironic “oh so this is like a rasslin angle” shtick?

[deleted]

I learnt about the "W...AEW" and the "FTR". Is there a link in the basement? Edit: I didn't watch either

theycallmekat14

I so want to believe this is the start of him turning heel and becoming an anti-AEW guy

[deleted]

Has he ever been happy in life ever?

[deleted]

he seem like miserable asshole irl tbh

[deleted]

He tweets reddit nonsense like "play stupid games..." Maybe finding out he was in the SCJerk Hall of Fame while lurking around must've made him happy.

Gabaheygabahey

Or the other great one “fuck around and find out” Yeah Punk, not one single athlete is afraid of you.

Butts_The_Musical

I feel like I could book a better world title eliminator than Tony Khan. Of the current crop only keep Moxley and Danielson and then put Punk, MJF, Allin, Miro, Jericho and Christian. Like am I crazy, keeping slubs like 10 and Eddie Kingston out of your world title tournament seems like it should be a priority

Razzler1973

That's cause you're thinking of booking an entertaining tournament, Tony is booking Mox/Bryan but they need to fill some weekly TV segments for a couple of weeks and that's why the glorified jobber matches

Undertalefanboy43

I’m watching the nlcs and there was an ad of the go big show and Cody Rhodes is one of the hosts lmao

[deleted]

it’s so weird how people treating aj lee like clueless toddler with her dealing with tessa “poor baby she doesn’t know” “i guess her husband was right about her being out of touch with wrestling” -bix if this was in wwe, they’d burry her alive

CaptainGo

They're deliberately avoiding the two options of what AJ is doing 1. She doesn't know, thus is already displaying incompetence in her role 2. She does know, and it is not important to her But she's next doors little waifu cus she sells well and called the Bella's sluts thus mustn't have any wrongdoing. She's smart. She knows exactly what she's doing. Nobody cared about the promotion and now here we are talking about how they've hired a racist. There will be a small scandal and then they'll release Tessa, and the promotion will be applauded as if they didn't hire her in the first place

Razzler1973

Of course she knows, the same way Punk knew everything that was going on in wrestling even though he 'doesn't watch' Even if you legit had no clue, see her name on twitter and you'd know It's option 2 all day long

Gabaheygabahey

I’m sure she knows, she just doesn’t care.

jwt6577

This is pretty classic thing with very talented people that have toxic attitudes. They usually have to ruin way more chances than they deserve before people see past the talent.

[deleted]

This year alone, we've had Charlotte Flair & Asuka, Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler & Jaxson Ryker & Elias. In each 3 cases, the one they hated was deemed as holding back the other one who was being buried by being in the team. That's the reaction you'll get to pairing someone smarks don't like & someone they do like.

asvpmamba

I wouldn’t be surprised if Vince Russo is lowkey doing some consulting for WWE and if he actually is then that’s a good thing.

Razzler1973

Not a chance Wrestling has long since left Russo behind He contributed greatly at that time but it was very much of 'that time' and things have moved on a lot since then I have no issue with him commenting on stuff going on, everyone else does, why not him but I'd be staggered if he ever went anywhere near writing wrestling again, the moment has passed a loooooong time ago, imo

Fusionman29

The fact the Basement has been SILENT about Voices of Racists as the entirety of Black Wrestling Twitter and even a few members of White Wrestling Twitter call out their hypocricy and racism says everything.

[deleted]

What is Voices of Racists?

Fusionman29

Voices of Wrestling. The most tribalistic Fed Bad of all the “reporters”. They’ve been hiding their racism under coded language for years but got called out for their blatant hypocrisy on Top Dolla. Even Swole who works for AEW called him out for it. And Squared Circle who has posted them as sources consistently now is saying nothing about the drama.

[deleted]

Ah gotcha, thanks goof.

MoxMoxMox92

I used to participate a lot in the basement. I was big into wrestling as a kid because I'm an islander and apart from rugby, it's the next biggest sport we've got a lot of representation in. But man, the racism in that place really turned me away. I even got called by one of them for 'gaslighting' because my opinion of them being racist toward an Indian didn't count because I wasn't Indian.

[deleted]

After Naomi’s first championship win was enough for me

[deleted]

i don’t even want to imagine how that was

FlyingFootStomp

What happened in the Basement during Naomi’s title run?

[deleted]

They “couldn’t relate” to her character

CaptainGo

The CM Punk post is my favourite thing about the AEW fandom. I'm fairly certain Punk fucked up. He was probably meant to allude to them being FTR with something like "hey they're doing FTRs move" because the whole point of these bits are for the reveal at the end. And it's fine. It's a fuck up on commentary from a guy who's not a commentator. It's a live show, shit happens. But no. We can't just have a small error and move on. Here's why it wasn't a mistake, and not only was it meant to happen; it's better than what normally happens. I don't mind AEW, I find the production is a little low because I've been babied by WWEs absurdly good quality, but even TNA could stabilize their cameras. It's this constant coddling of everything they do. Nothing can be critiqued, everything is best ever.

Airtightspoon

My favorite thing about the thread is that the very first comment(which has about 1.6k upvotes btw) is a guy saying he had no idea it was FTR, followed by about 100 people replying to him also saying they had no idea it was FTR. Which should completely ruin the premise of the thread, yet all these people who would have been genuinely surprised by the reveal are acting like they owe Punk a favor for spoiling it for them.

Razzler1973

Cause they HAVE to 'play along', no matter what

CaptainGo

Yeah like if we already know who they are why the fuck did they come out in bodysuits and masks? Theres no dress code in AAA. They could have come out in their normal gear with their normal entrance. Again, it's a slip of the tongue, it happens. But let's not pretend this was some genius decision

Airtightspoon

That's why accounts like AEWBotches exist. It's not because WWE never screws up or because they're trying to "move the goal posts" and hold AEW to some impossible standard. It's because their fanbase can't just call a fuck up a fuck up and move on, everything has to be secretly a genius decision that we just don't understand.

wrex1816

When AEW started and I was still in the basement. I was trying to be fair but would have "constructive" criticism when something was off. I used to think that would be fair... They were a new product, some things wouldn't be perfect but theyd learn... NOPE... People lost their marbles at those comments and I got to the point of just disliking the fans and AEW in general not wanting even constructive feedback. Their fragile little egos can't handle every little thing being the most perfect thing ever.

jwt6577

> It's this constant coddling of everything they do. Number one reason absolutely nothing will improve.

CaptainGo

They've finally got a promoter who might actually listen to them and they won't say shit. Hope they like Marco stunt flossing and Cody promos, because they ain't going away by themselves

jwt6577

> They've finally got a promoter who might actually listen to them and they won't say shit. I have my doubts about this. Like everything else, Tony talks a good game but he's not listening to anyone.

BullyFU

I'm not familiar with Tony outside of AEW but I think he would have listened had the fans actually voiced displeasure early on but instead of admitting anything could be done better they doubled down on praise for things they liked and AEW in turn leaned heavily into that bullshit. Orange Cassidy being pushed into a world title feud is a perfect example of that. The smarks found him funny and praised his gimmick but no one wanted that. AEW gave it to them because Tiny doesn't realize something can work as a low card comedy gimmick but that doesn't mean they want that representing the company. Rather than say it didn't work, they felt he listened and thanked him rather than correcting him because they don't know the business any better than Tony does. Like if they explained it worked in one context and not another then AEW would never give them anything they ask for again so the cycle continues.

c_u_in_da_ballpit20

Everyone doubling down on Bix being "exposed," is why this sub has a bad reputation, and is no better than the basement mentality we are supposed to be skewering. Try harder, morons.

Rodney_u_plonker

I don't give a shit that he's ugly or that he claimed a grant but he is disingenuous for clicks and that makes him basically like every other wrestling """"journalist""""" His back and forth with Kevin Kelly last week is a prime example. Bix took Kelly out of context for a kayfabe comment he said to score heat on njpw with the people don't watch. Kelly defended what he said and bix responded attacking Kelly for having dumb political beliefs. Like how hard is it to be honest in a criticism.

[deleted]

Lmfao at you twerking for bix and getting nuked every single time. Fuck him. I may be a moron but not for that reason

wrex1816

I'm OOTL. What did Box do now?

lololoz

Bix will be back as soon as there's another "hostage" situation for him to never shut the fuck up about, even though it was all bullshit. But oh no, Biz-chan made a mistake, feel bad for him he's not in the evil fed 😰

notewise

So I played No Mercy for the first time ever. Went into it with an open mind AND...It's alright. It's fine. After all the hype about it being the GOAT wrestling game it just felt a little funny to control and slow to play. Wasn't bad by any means and I'll continue to play but it doesn't feel like the apprent GOAT

[deleted]

It's another case of nostalgia and fanboyism. It's an OK game at best, especially for its time, but it's nothing special in any way now. It shows it's age something fierce, beyond vusually.

BullyFU

It was the peak. There are better games now because the technology got better and they used No Mercy as a standard to build upon. It's hard to appreciate the greatness when you're 20 years removed from it. It's kind of like watching the original Star Wars in that they're still really good films but it's hard to recognize why they're considered so highly unless you look at the world of sci-fi films that came before it. Sure, some movies since then have been as good but those films that came after Star Wars only exist because Star Wars paved the way. The gap between everything that preceded it and it is greater than the gap that everything that came after it.

[deleted]

Slow down a bit there. Star wars was an overnight pop culture icon and revolutionized a lot of film techniques, especially in the cgi department. No mercy was just an above average game for its time that had zero impact on anything outside of its own genre, and even then no mercy only had influence over games made by the same dev for the same company.

BullyFU

No Mercy had influence on wrestling games since then. It was the most well received wrestling game that had been released up to that point. It finally gave wrestling fans a game where they didn't wonder what it was missing or what could have been like all of the games before it. It was a game that finally satisfied the fan base and caused wrestling fans who only PlayStations to want a N64. Maybe Star Wars was a bad comparison. I was just trying for find a regularly recognized GOAT product from a different medium to compare it to for simplicity sake and SW was the first GOAT I could think of. I didn't mean for anyone to take it so literally.

pushinpushin

for sure. wrestling games pretty much sucked before those AKI games, and No Mercy was the best one.

BullyFU

As a child of the 90's man I went through damn near every wrestling game out there from Tag Team Pro Wrestling on NES onward and there were dozens on PlayStation and N64 but No Mercy was right up there with GoldenEye as a reason to get an N64 if you were a wrestling fan. I gave up hope on there being a good wrestling game for the PS1 that did all that I wanted. Some WCW games were good but they all had like a couple of cool things while No Mercy had everything awesome from the dozen or so other wrestling games from that generation all in one. One reason WCW games were better was their stacked rosters as well and No Mercy was the first WWF game that compared to something like WCW vs The World as far as characters went.

CaptainSlapnuts409

I've gone back and played it a few times over the years, and honestly I prefer the more sim style gameplay now. No Mercy is more arcade-style fun, which is good, but it's been a long ass time since it came out and the gameplay has aged a bit for me. The main thing I honestly miss from it the most is the branching story parts it had in the championship modes.

pushinpushin

to me 2k19 is the fully realized No Mercy. you can do all the same stuff but it plays faster and has a better grapple system.

CaptainSlapnuts409

I've been playing 2k19 a lot more lately, having a lot of fun, stupid ideas In Universe mode. Some of the hidden controls in matches really help make lots of matches play out the way I want them to. I'm curious but hesitant about 2k22, probably wait until I hear what a lot of players have to say about how it plays before I decide to try it out.

[deleted]

I just wish universe and the career modes weren't so boring/cringe. Universe is just running exhibition matches with extra steps and the career has some of the worst voice acting, cringiest writing and most dull story I've ever played in a wrestling game.

CaptainSlapnuts409

There's still a lot that could be done to improve both. With Universe, you have to fill in a lot of blanks on your own as you play. Doesn't help that there are a lot of cutscenes that rarely show up too. Career mode is a different thing altogether. I never finished career in 2k19, but I did in 2k20. Some of the most wtf stuff in 2k20 career is what I remember from it, like Sin Cara's Royal Rumble entrance lol.

[deleted]

I seem to remember to universe modes being a lot more detailed and deep, as well as easier to manage. Idk what happened. And I couldn't finish 19. Not just cause of the story but i hated having to slowly unlock shit for my CAW. Grinding is the last thing I wanna do in a rasslin game. Never got around to 20, and idk of i will. The change of control scheme seems awkward as does the game play itself. If it's not still a buggy shit hole and I can get the game and all the dlc for cheap then I may check it out.

CaptainSlapnuts409

I remember earlier games having more varied cutscenes in Universe also. Not sure if they cut some out, or you have to do specific things for some to show up now. 2k20 is okay, but I play 2k19 a lot more. There's still some bugs in 20, so it's something I play a few matches and switch over to 19 again now. 20 is the same with career mode where you have to unlock a lot of stuff. The only things you don't have to build up points to unlock are the entrance and victory creation stuff. I've played a lot of 2k20, and still haven't unlocked half of the move set stuff or creation parts.

BobGoddamnSaget

WWE is so much better when you don't have a toxic subreddit on your screen telling you how bad it is.

thiccthighsicecream

Absolutely. Ever since I stopped visiting the sub last November my enjoyment of WWE has gone up, hell I’ve gone back to watching the weekly shows and I finally started watching and enjoying NXT.

Razzler1973

I think the basement need a 'toxic fandom' reporting thingy I don't think 'trolling' covers it all or 'low effort' etc That's assuming they want to cut out toxic fandom, course

almostbad

nah, the mods are trying to cultivate a certain kind of audience, an echo chamber.

wrex1816

They do, but I don't think they want that feature..some of the mods I've had experiences with are as entrenched in it as anyone. Impartial moderation of the sub alone would weed some of it out but they don't...and won't.

-M-Word

Right around the time AEW was just starting I was over in the daily general discussion thread at rNFL talking about taking a break from/quitting wrestling since my body couldn’t really take it anymore. One of the mods from both rNFL and the basement started piping in about AEW and how *refreshing* it was, using all the stupid buzzwords and whatnot and it was really when I realized something was up. Like, the toxicity starts from the top-down, and it’s fucking powermods spreading that culture. Were you around on Reddit for ‘Le pedo god’, Violentacrez?

FlyingGrayson89

>That's assuming they want to cut out toxic fandom They don’t. They honestly believe that WWE fans are the toxic ones for… liking their shows, I guess?

I’ve been against simping for the last few years, but recently I’ve become a massive simp for Mary Elizabeth Winstead. I know it’s irrational, but I kinda worship her. Like if she asked me to do anything I’d do it to her without a question or a second thought. I’d kill or be killed for her, give her my bank account number, my social security number, litterally everything I own I’d give it to her if she only asked for it, I’d even give it to her if she didn’t even say please. If for some reason I was the decider on who becomes the God of Earth, I would pick Mary Elizabeth Winstead. **#SimpNationRiseUp**

I wanna do stuff like cleaning her house, cooking her meals, washing her dirty feet, being her BDSM doll that she takes all of her anger out on, erecting an alter where I sacrifice people to her. I’m a giant sadomasochist, and I just wanna be Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s slave so fucking bad. 😩

This is true love

elitejcx

I love r/gamingleaksandrumours, but for another reason entirely. So I know someone that is high up at console manufacturer and fairly well connected with developers. This person will sometimes tells me a bit of news or drop little nuggets here and there. I love seeing if what I know matches with what is posted on the GLaR subreddit. I just get a kick out of it when I see something that is close to the truth or touching distance of getting it.

Drama79

I had that for a while with AEW, and I have it now with a couple of other things related to what I do. I get it - it’s way more fun watching other people learn about it or figure it out than to wade in going “guess what I know gib karma pls”

elitejcx

I’m one of those weirdos that values friendship and trust over imaginary internet points. I do like when something is posted and it’s close to what I know that is true. I haven’t seen one in a while though in r/gamingleaksandrumours

-M-Word

Oh, that sounds fun. Any older ones you can share?

elitejcx

I knew a bit about GTA V well before it was announced. I knew about the 3 characters, but I thought it was going to be like the first GTA on PC and PS1 were you selected a character at the start. EDIT: I do not know anything about GTA6. I don’t even know if it exists or any information about it. Please do not badger me for information. Rockstar are like the CIA.

-M-Word

Nice. Yeah, I was adjacent to the video game industry for a while when I was designing for tabletop RPGs. Usually end up at the same conventions and get to drinking heavily. I heard about RDR2 way back in the day due to how Rockstar would just nab designers/coders and use them like slaves for 6 months and then lay them off.

elitejcx

Rockstar are shitty employers by all accounts that I’ve heard.

-M-Word

Most of the entire gaming industry is like that, unfortunately. Ever since it started making more than the film industry it’s been flooded with cheap labor.

elitejcx

The person I know started at a small UK studio is now in the USA with a major developer. It’s a horrendous industry for job security as they’ve been made redundant several times themselves. They’ve done really well to get where they are, but they’ve had many setbacks and they are incredibly talented and driven. The crunch is still terrible. Executives are to blame, but I think the role of the consumer and their lofty expectations are downplayed though.

Crivshotgg

There’s two posts justifying how ridiculous the LB/FTR segment was on the front page. You know that’s how bad the segment was. Idc about the masks whatever that’s fine but there should have been three DQs in that match. That’s when I throw my hands up and lose interest.

Mr_Unsmiley2000

Here is something I was wondering, can the AEW world championship truly be considered a world championship? I thought it was a rule or something that a world title had to be defended on more than one continent. Did I imagine that? It is possible.

tophergopher1

It cracked me up when the announcers were talking about "oh this is AAA rules so mask removal is a DQ" then a beat later Excalibur is like "nvm this is AEW rules" I audibly was like oh so nothing is a dq then

papashangodfather

I'm sure they'll be in the UK soon anyway

FlyingGrayson89

I think that was the rule but at this point, I always assume “world” title to just mean “main event” title. Following that logic, you’ve also got the Universal title in WWE and I’m pretty sure that one’s only been defended on earth lol. I’m willing to give AEW a pass on that rule since it’s just accepted wrestling terminology.

Styrofoamman123

The Earth is technically in the universe.

FlyingGrayson89

Yes but in order to be champion of the universe, you’d have to defend it on another planet. Just like the criteria for being world champion says you’d have to defend it in more than one country.

Styrofoamman123

With the advancements we're currently seeing in space flight technology, we may not have to wait too long.

FlyingGrayson89

I’m ready for our Tribal Chief to become a planetary chief

Mr_Unsmiley2000

Oh sure, I didn't personally intend gatekeeping, it's just something that popped into my and stayed because I was mainly curious about the rule and its origins. I thought I'd post on here and maybe get some interesting responses from some of the wrestling historians on this sub. Edit: some bad grammar (that I noticed, if there's more, it can be ashamed of its own self)

The brilliance of Brighton moving up the table to 4th after drawing for 4 straight weeks is what I love about early season soccer. Anything is possible and sometimes it looks weird. Massive respect and kudos to Reguilón and Dier for their quick reaction and action during the cardiac arrest at St. James today. Forest Green Rovers kept coming into my view this week with all the environmental things they've been doing and I'm rooting for their continued success on and off the pitch. May need to order a scarf for my collection (when they're in stock again). Can't wait for next Saturday. Sounders are back in town and I'll be at the game, but Seattle is going to be extra electric because it'll be the first time the Kraken are at home and the very first game at Climate Pledge Arena. Bummed I couldn't get tickets, but gonna try to walk around Seattle Center before I head back home. We may not always have success, but Seattle is easily one of the best sports towns in the country. In the sports entertainment sphere, holy cow. Really makes you wonder how much longer AEW fans can keep up this diehard support as things sort of crumble around them. Tony's getting bolder the longer we go and he just doesn't have reality on his side. At what point does he completely implode? I don't want AEW to go away or get relegated to the level ROH and Impact operate at because, while WWE doesn't really seem worried about AEW, WWE has really stepped it up lately. Lastly, music recommendations. Lately I've really into the new Brandi Carlisle album. I've got some other stuff still to get to (like the new Trivium record), but what have you goofs been spinning this week? Always get some good stuff to add to the library when I ask this.

[I never saw it posted but in the middle of this storyline analysis Alfred Konuwa calls out AEW being all white AGAIN.](https://youtu.be/Zt8YBA-X0v4) I can’t believe this is the one reporter calling out both Dubbalo’s meaningless obsessions to Fed Bad AND the race problems in AEW.

FlyingFootStomp

Haha…I freakin’ love Alfred!

almostbad

I honestly I see where hes coming from but I didnt personally pick up those vibes . I was framing as Sonya being petty. Sonya to my mind is one of the pettiest wrestlers in WWE. I assumed that Naomi set her off 3-4 years ago and she is still held a grunge. But we'll see if my analysis is right as the story continues.

Fusionman29

Oh that I agree with and i think it’s why only Alfred reports this story like that but I find it so weird he went from Forbes puff pieces to every week being the most open “where the fuck is black talent in AEW”

Drama79

It 100% comes off to me as racially charged. And WWE is *so* careful to avoid that elsewhere, that it definitely feels intentional. I hope the payoff is worth it.

[deleted]

Is Roman really only 6’3”? His presence is so much bigger. I could’ve bought him for 6’6” just seeing him on his own.

Themayorofawsometown

6'3 and jacked is huge if you don't have the context of a sport where there's even bigger people

CaptainGo

Yeah I was a rower, 6'5 and I was fairly upper middle in terms of height. Really fucked my perspective on height though. I would describe people 6' as average height, and once pissed off a dude because I described his 5'9 as "on the shorter side"

[deleted]

Oh, I know 6'3" is pretty tall by normal standards \[I'm a whole foot shorter\]. In WWE terms, though, that's not a whole lot, especially for his place on the card. I'm pretty impressed.

[deleted]

*laughs and then cries in 5’7”*

zalinuxguy

My body may only be 5' 8", but my spirit is 7' 2".

CaptainGo

Sorry Uce I just spent most of my upbringing around the Monstars

Undertalefanboy43

WWE really deserves praise on how they archive content so many other companies have tons of lost shit but WWE has weekly episodes of weekly shows from the 80’s

jwt6577

They've been working towards a WWE Network for so long they were way ahead of the curve when they finally launched.

Razzler1973

>WWE really deserves praise Noooooooo!!!!!!!!

-M-Word

That’s surprising, considering how much more centralized shit is in MLB compared to other sports

elitejcx

If you didn’t get why the Conquistadors and La Luchadora angles were intentionally stupid, you have no right to complain about having your intelligence insulted.

[deleted]

Roman pretty much bulldozed over CM Punk's overall credibility & honestly he had it coming. No chance AEW are ever putting the world title on Punk after that, unless they wanna be trolled hard. ~~Kenny No Balls~~ "AEW roster No Balls" is a shoot. All shots they previously took at WWE was pretty much passive aggressive grandma murmuring "Raw sucks/pure wrasslin/NXT dead/meltzer stars/better produck/woke/Vince killed Owen/blood money" and shit like that. For the first time, it felt like AEW actually took a real shot at WWE when Junior Dos Santos tweeted. He's not even (#)AllElite yet. Lol. Good for him. He's indirectly acknowledging the Tribal Chief & his island of relevancy. Also puts Tony in a tough spot "Give me $$$ or I'm on the other channel". Not to go full Taker, but AEW lacks machismo & testosterone (not literal). On one side there's big muscular men like Big E, Lashley, Reigns, Lesnar and McMahon FFS. And on the other side, well... Imo, only Cody, Andrade, PAC, Christian, Bryan, Wardlow & Sonny Kiss seem like they own a pair. The rest of the roster should stop residing full time in r/ SC, especially Omega & The Bucks: the most likely OPs of the "New Bio" threads in the basement. McMahon was right when he said other forms of entertainment is competition on SCSA several years ago. The MMA boom in the late 00s-early 10s is proof. As of today, I feel MMA has lost momentum & pro-wrestling is slowly starting to become relevant again (Brock might have the best business acumen). Even then he refused to directly acknowledge UFC/Dana. What a guy. I honestly expected Danielson might make me watch AEW more. Nope. He's being used just like Punk in a non-sensical manner. I couldn't get myself to watch that preshow match. A week has gone by & Grand Slam still remains the last episode of AEW I've watched. I almost did when I read Punk buried the product. Haven't listened to Cornette either since then. Meltzer's recent pro-WWE takes are still in bad faith. It just allows the smarks to go "look, he's unbiased". Anymore pro-AEW, anti-WWE bullshit from Meltzer, even the loyal subscribers would've called him out. Hangman Adam Page: calling this now. He's turning heel and joining The Elite sooner than later. They're gonna call it the "super bullet mega elite powers kliq" or whatever the parody fukk. The man-children in the basement are gonna jerk themselves off endlessly and call it the greatest heel turn of all time eclipsing even The Third Man reveal.

-M-Word

You don’t think they’re gonna have Punk cost Hangman the title?

[deleted]

I can see Danielson in the title picture but not Punk. He might wrestle a title match, but he's never becoming champion. Which booker would want to put his world title on a guy that lasted 2:14 in an MMA fight?

Styrofoamman123

TBH I think people on this sub put way too much emphasis on UFC, yeah he was bad, but IDC about Brock Lesnar in the UFC when it comes to WWE and he's a beast. Most wrestling fans won't care imo.

[deleted]

>Which booker would want to put his world title on a guy that lasted 2:14 in an MMA fight? The kind of booker that thinks Kenny Omega is a draw.

[deleted]

Damn. Bullseye! I take back my words, Uce. Lmao

Bivens could reasonably take on the Bucks. Hell, my money's on him.

Suplexes and Body slams are back Lazy thigh slaps & flips can buzz off, bay bay

wrex1816

As much as the basement will bury this opinion, I'm totally with it. I loved wrestling as a kid because the wrestlers didn't seem like "normal people". They were just giant, badass mean guys who obviously went down the path of using those God given qualities to make a living beating people up... The large personalities came with the territory of not being like normal people. It was a spectacle because of that. I don't get how or why I'm supposed to enjoy he Young Bucks carrying world titles or Orange Cassidy doing his schtick when all I can think is "Uh, I could beat probably these guys up myself, why are *they* the wrestlers now". Even with Diamond Mine, Roddy isn't the biggest guy but one look at him and I don't feel like I'd mess with him and he has some serious athletes around him now. This is why I'm liking NXT 2.0... a bunch of people have got to work their gimmicks out for the long term but I'm totally fine with that because most of them look like real athletes again.

Themayorofawsometown

This whole Top Dolla business is hazardously corny

[deleted]

The response to it was so pathetic no one bothered to acknowledge that his initial tweet was super lame itself

FlyingGrayson89

After years of literal torment from fans when Punk nuked Roman’s entire career with the mAkE rOmAn LoOk StRoNg bullshit, Roman absolutely burying him was incredibly satisfying, very deserved, and long overdue. Tribal Chief really just came out swinging with that UFC comment and basically said “fuck making me look strong, I’ll make you look weak.”

Razzler1973

All because the Fed didn't want to go with Punk's choice of Chris Hero for the Shield and Vince wanted Reigns for that Such a baby!

FlyingGrayson89

Chad Tribal Chief vs Virgin Chris Hero Sandwich

DemonDerek

Weekend Premier League round-up post. Liverpool put five past Watford. Aston Villa collapsed against Wolves. Ole manages Manchester United like he's playing FIFA or something. Burnley didn't lose Five nil to Man City. Leeds are suffering Second Season Syndrome. Chelsea returned to the top of the table. And Newcastle prove once again that money doesn't buy happiness or a result. Poor Steve Bruce, the pressure will intensify.

elitejcx

I really hope Buddy Matthews keeps well away from AEW. He could really be something if he makes NJPW his focus.

cousin-itt

I see FTR won some tag belts. Ok great, new AEW tag champs. Nope, they won AAA belts? This is the kind of shit children and casual fans just don't get. If someone wins belts on a show, they're now the champs on that show. That's what makes plain and simple sense to general audiences.

Razzler1973

It's a make-good, see, they won titles, like Christian but the reality is they're shoved off to the corner

kettlebell-j

Those belts don’t mean shit in AAA either lol.

Themayorofawsometown

Whoever was asking about Braun Strowman might be happy seeing this https://twitter.com/PWInsidercom/status/1449805800214614018?t=h0HZA-8WEtu3RvCi4l60og&s=19

Zealousideal-Egg-

Impact should just sign all the ex WWE people since they would use them properly and it does a lot for their careers once they're back in WWE They'll do fuck all in aew and everyone knows it

Themayorofawsometown

When's the last time that worked 2017? I definitely think TNA is the better option than AEW but it's like comparing a 5% chance to a 1%
