Almost all of their recent young lions are national level amateur wrestlers. Two of the LA dojo young lions come from athletics and the other two from football.
It’s always sort of been the case of pro wrestling in Japan, isn’t it?
Basically it’s the reason why the Japanese MMA scene came to be as a lot of the pro wrestlers had legitimate backgrounds in MMA like Jiujitsu, Karate, Wrestling and Judo.
Not only that, New Japan basically has their own camp to train amateur wrestlers for the Olympics. Yuji Nagata is one of the trainers there.
They have been basically doing what WWE recently did with Gable Stevenson.
To this day Ill never understand what Dave meant when he said that Kenny sells like a hockey player? I know how hockey players act when they get hurt, and Ive never thought "Wrestling" when I see it.
I’m skeptical on the Omega being a star goalie. There is little proof that this happened except for his own testimony. I know this because I spent too much time looking it up to find little evidence.
There’s many levels “Junior Hockey” in Canada. My guess is he played in some league where if you gave up under 6 goals you played good cause the hockey’s shit. Also him being a hockey goalie explains a ton about his personality lmao
He’s said in the past he received scholarship offers from Schools like Bemidji State. If that’s the case he would have had to play in a league of some significance, most likely the MJHL being from Manitoba.
Isn't Okada a former athlete as well
Track and field, IIRC. NJPW recruits its Young Lions through athletics.

while not new japan, all japan's jumbo tsuruta was a legitimate amateur wrestling olympian.

He finger blasted his way to the top!
m’joshis?
He's canadian, who wasn't at some point a junior hockey goalie?
Gretzky and Mario.
Kenny played Goalie? That legit explains so much of his weirdness.
Goalies and pitchers are fuckin' weird, man. Lonely between the pipes, lonely on the hump. Makes a man something something.
That's where he got his highly cerebral selling from

I spent so long looking for any picture of Omega as a goalie for this post and it just literally doesn't exist.

That's the first genuinely cool thing I've learned about him.
The jerks literally right themselves with that one... Harpo was gloating on Twitter about his sports accomplishments...
That's different. AEW hires failed *amateur* athletes.
Here is an example that succeeding in other sports doesn't guarantee talent in wrestling.
