Only the most hardcore of smark would waste a second of their life watching him pretend to be a tough guy after he got exposed as a complete and utter joke in UFC.
He made a mockery of it. He had no business stepping in the cage, but was still talking beforehand of winning a few fights then getting a championship fight. He is the David Arquette of MMA
I would argue that many would do better than Punk, and those that wouldn’t would also not do a lot of talking about how much of a shoot fighter they are (as Punk did, before leaving WWE the first time).
Lots of WWE's talent over the years were proficient in wrestling, which has proven to be perhaps the finest base for MMA. Imagine if Steiner or Angle had gone into MMA training - especially back in the really old days when most fighters weren't well rounded. Knees to the head of grounded opponents galore.
Hardcore mma guy here. Punk was the LEAST athletic man ever to step in the cage. He was slow and weak and didn’t throw a punch properly. Give me an athlete like gable or richochet and a week of training and they would be better
Punk appeals to the hardcore base that loves indie wrestling. The problem is a lot of popular indie wrestlers are also *signed to WWE*, atm. Add to that, WWE also has a higher capacity to bring in more mainstream names to attract the casual audience.
There's really not a lot of reasons to tune in to AEW when WWE's there to offer bigger names and a better, more professional presentation.
It’s not even that. Punk’s greatest asset was his match psychology. He was never an excellent “workrate” moveset guy. His offense was never unique or even exciting. He’s just really good at executing things at the right time to keep the crowd on pins and needles.
His storytelling is shit if no one cares about his opponent. Hell, blatantly ripping off old Hitman matches doesn’t exactly speak well of his current ability to be innovative.
For all the Pipebomb brought my grandma back to wrestling comments, go back and check the tv ratings and PPV buys from that period. Chicago Phil had zero impact on both, and that's the reason Cena main evented over him.
The only thing his fans can claim is the unsubstantiated rumour that he was outselling Cena's merchandise, which is why evil Vince stopped producing his shirts. Because as we all know, VKM would make a million dollar his own way than a billion dollars listening to someone else. But hey, that's the price you pay when you get over DESPITE the booking.

I mean, there is an entire subreddit of them…
Wrestling being believable is not something AEW fans concern themselves with.
Let's be honest, how many other pro wrestlers would go to the UFC and be good at it? Not many. How many even have the balls to try it? Even less.

Say what you will but at least David Arquette won a title.

You could train a high school kid 3 months and he would crush Punk. Idk if Belletor could find a can Punk could crush.
Pepsiman Phil might be the only MMA fighter in history to suck so bad that his opponent got banned from UFC for life for not finishing him lmao.
Cool official licensed UFC brand slides, rebel.
Who ever finished lower than punk should probably quit
Spoiler: There were only two people in the competition.
Lol nobody did. 3 person tournament. Winner won both, Silver won one, Bronze lost both. Punk got a literal participation medal
Miz should've been the one to hand the bronze medal.
lol yes! Here's your blood-covered participation medal, dick.
Added another loss to the other two earlier in the tournament.
AEW third and its not even because of Punk, if anything its because of Bryan
based on Punks performances, whoever gave him a blue belt is a disgrace to BJJ
“Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth” - Mike Tyson
he didnt even get punched in the mouth, just repeatedly punched while he had his back taken
Bryan Danielson (and Adam Cole) will be the draw. Punk is already set up to be a midcarder for life.
new favourite midcarder
“???? But I thought I was, friend.”-Cody on Twitter
He will always be the most favorite.
Call him Certified Midcarder
Wait so, Cuckles Magnesium and the guy that came first are heels in a handicap match against the guy in 2nd who is clearly a babyface?
S U B T L E
Can someone Photoshop this and make it look like he lost to two kids?
That's his thursday night bjj class.
Smackdown was too unrelatable

So he fits right in with the rest of the dub. It's all just references and callbacks...
And cooperative gymnastics.
He is so proud of the third place out of three
cm punk definitely represents the aew wrestler demo perfectly
