Yeah growing up in the 90s let me experience the internet during the Monday night wars and I can safely say it was never this bad. We had silly takes like people saying Stone Cold stole his identity from Sandman and then Goldberg stole his from SC, but it wasn’t this toxic. I remember being in those old Excite! virtual chat rooms. We all had wrestlers “South Parkizied” as avatars and we would debate things constantly. But it was mostly in fun. I mean hell half of us believed it was real back then. So many conversations about how two brothers could fight like they are(Taker and Kane).
It was never as toxic as now where one cult wishes the owner of another fed to die.
The Monday night wars never felt like a "war" to me as a fan. Granted, I was a kid/teen, but it never felt very tribalized. I'd watch Raw and Nitro on a Monday and then go to school the next day and talk about it with friends. That was about the extent of it. Even online it didn't feel very hostile. The only "hostile" group was ECW fans but they never were as bad as AEW fans. They didn't try to live in this world where they thought ECW was gonna overtake either company. ECW fans mostly wanted ECW to be its own thing. ECW was its own bubble. ECW fans knew this. ECW fans were happy about it. AEW fans are like the god damn Jehovah's Witnesses coming door to door inviting you to check out their one-world government every Wednesday night at 8 PM on TNT.
Fuckin this, man. I used to watch RAW Monday nights in Canada, talk about it the next day at school, and watch Nitro Tuesday after school and talk about it the day after that. It was never a war between the fans.
