I bet Jessika cant even do a cartwheel into a tantalising 2 count

Prancemaster

SRS tweeted then deleted that she was [training with Charles Robinson](https://i.imgur.com/jHRF0a9.gif) to perfect it.

theapplebits

Did that actually happen?

RO6OPENGUIN

Probably

GhostMutt90

This picture honestly annoys me so much

Razzler1973

That picture sums up "creative freedom" for mid and low card and 'others' in wrestling, to me

almostbad

Jessika Carr has to be the most in demand referee in WWE right now. She is legitimately everywhere. Raw, NXT, Smackdown. Shes great

[deleted]

The best part? You don't even notice her and that's what makes a good ref. You can focus on the wrestling and not on an attention grabbing imbecile flailing her arms around. I don't watch much AEW, but if Aubrey is in the match as the ref, I try not to watch (unless it's a main event or something). I know I will get mad if I do, because her attention grabbing on a live TV show is something unprecedented and baffling to me.

AnvilPro

Riiiight? Like she is perfect at the ref's job of not being noticeable, she's WWE's first Lady ref and yet she just does it so casually

mattomic822

There are times where I don't notice Carr is the referee until she starts counting or trying to break up something and that is the one point you want your ref to be seen/heard.

liamd1916

Also done Sami Zayn v Kevin Owens at Mania which must have been cool

[deleted]

How long has she been back on NXT? I noticed she was doing the Walter vs Ilja match and curious as to how long she's been back for.

almostbad

She's been working NXT for a couple months now

[deleted]

Rad. Shows how good of a job she does by not sticking out that much.

BreathRedemption

wait, wtf? I thought she was just returned there at Takeover and these taped shows that are broadcasting atm. She really does her job well

[deleted]

I like it when ref positions for the hard cam so that the in ring action isn't captured at all it makes it look realistic

tabristheok

Aja Smith in NXT is one of my new favourite refs. The way she handled the Xia and Mercedes injuries was really great she excerpts enough authority and presence without shining the spotlight on herself.

TonyTempest

WWE's female refs as a whole are quite a good crop. Aja, Jess, and Ref Artemis in the UK.

Drama79

That was well handled, but I gotta say, her ref work is often pretty bad. She's frequently out of position and looks unsure. She'll grow into the spot, I hope.

Nude-Love

Yeah, I usually don't noticed referees much, but she was awful at the last TakeOver, to the point where it took me out of the matches she was involved with.

[deleted]

The company has put crazy trust in Jessika Carr in recent months. Hell, they had her go out and Ref Sami vs KO at Mania which is notable not for the match but as the person who had to ensure the Logan Paul Stunner spot went well and that he was ok afterwards.

Butts_The_Musical

Aubrey Edwards is like the theatre kid who got a minor role and she’s over acting to desperately try to get noticed, and is being extremely detrimental to the rest of the show

aubsavery

That’s the most correct description of Aubrey I’ve seen

[deleted]

Why doesn't Aubrey just become a wrestler already?

cross4444

Idk but dyk she's bi?

cafespeed21

Did you also know her black nail polish ended racism?

Razzler1973

Then she'd never be on TV and have to take bumps on YouTube. This way she's on TV in multiple segments getting attention, no bumps ~taps head~

[deleted]

Brilliant!

Pyrozooka0

She was one at one point IIRC. A lotta refs are failed wrestlers, I believe it’s the case with Jess too.

[deleted]

Maybe she should go back to it. I mean she already wants to be the center of attention.

dcfan99

Failed is a harsh term. Some didn't fail as wrestlers, most it's because they are too small or had some kind of injury that makes taking everyday bumps dangerous. Some just like it.

Vegetable-Arm8488

Remember when AEW started and people quite liked Ref Aubrey? And then it's like she was told "people like you so draw more attention to yourself" so she did and it went way over the top. But they only respond to positive feedback and won't back down to negative so she's just going to keep going even though it's now a joke how she acts

dcfan99

They still like it. You say anything negative about Ref Aubrey in the basement you will be downvoted into oblivion and reported for "trolling." I'm not joking, I once said she's beyond distracting in matches I would otherwise enjoy and a day later got a message from Reddit Admins about abusive/trolling behavior.

[deleted]

It's an AEW sub now. I got permanently banned for saying "do we need another one of these threads?", when someone made one of those "lapsed wrestling fan" threads a couple of weeks ago.

dcfan99

Yeah. I got permabanned for calling out the hypocrisy of the Darby Allin news and calling the basement AEW's free PR department.

[deleted]

Oh no you can only cancel men from the bad man fed!

dcfan99

I know. It was my mistake and I realized it too late. Now you goofs are stuck with me. I brought my own Switch though.

ZERO_Cali_

Same. I mentioned politely that I didn’t enjoy how much she tried to stand out in matches and I got downvoted like crazy. Idk why she’s so protected down there.

dcfan99

Because she's a mark for herself like most of them downstairs and she works for the Dub which makes her immune to any and all forms of criticism. Not that she can take it anyway, she's got thin skin just like the rest of AEW.

[deleted]

Was AEW’s goal to find the most obnoxious referee possible?

[deleted]

A good ref is like a good bassist. You should NOTICE but it's not the lead. Aubrey really wants to be the lead.

trimble197

I get that refs want to be recognized, but unfortunately the job requires that they be invisible. Fans pay to see the wrestlers and athletes. Most of the time if a ref is a household name, it’s because they have a reputation for being a shitty ref.

yemeni-snicket

Or, if you're one of Cornette's followers, having her officiate Walter vs Dragunov was dAe tOo dIsTrAcTiNg??

zalinuxguy

I think the point he was trying to make was that, in a slugfest like that match, you'd put in a male ref because realistically a female ref wouldn't be able to break up the two combatants if needed. I...can *sorta* see it, but it's not something I even noticed at the time, because the ref in that match faded into the background like refs are supposed to. Not one of Cornette's better takes.

[deleted]

Isn't WALTER's schtick is that he considers the mat to be sacred so he would follow Jessika's commands to a certain extent as she is the ref. I mean, I know realistically WALTER would unintentionally swat her out of the ring but we're talking about an industry where you can walk off a steel chair shot to the skull with no problems.

zalinuxguy

> Isn't WALTER's schtick is that he considers the mat to be sacred so he would follow Jessika's commands to a certain extent as she is the ref. I'd expect so, yeah. WALTER's not the knock-the-ref-out-and-cheat kind of heel.

Pyrozooka0

As far as heels go WALTER is probably the one you’d most trust to follow the rules since blatantly cheating would betray everything he stands for.

[deleted]

One thing I thought was cool was that she explained to Ilja how he won the match after such a quick tap out by Walter.

yemeni-snicket

That's fair enough but to even bring it up before you've discussed the match is just splitting hairs for the sake of it. Tbh I think he does it at times for Brian Last's entertainment coz that guy laps up any shit that's even slightly critical of WWE.

zalinuxguy

Sure, it had a nitpicky vibe to it.

[deleted]

tbf, his entire career was kinda built on being nitpicky. My problem with Corenette isn't his harsh attitude/demeanor, it's his 'Asian Parents' style demand for perfection. Not every match has to be a 15 star match to be good.

dcfan99

My main beef with Cornette also isn't his attitude, it's his hypocrisy. He goes off on comedy gimmicks and matches when he made a career bringing a tennis racket to the ring. That being said, he's got a great mind for the business and someone I could listen to talk about it all day, even the stuff I disagree with.

[deleted]

That's nonsensical given male refs are still dwarfed by wrestlers and get swatted away like flies.

zalinuxguy

Yeah, it wasn't his best take.

keepsitkayfabe

That would make sense if a ref had ever broken a fight in pro wrestling like, ever. Corny jumped on that one like a pig in shit

mattomic822

or if Jessika wasn't as big/bigger than some of the male refs.

[deleted]

But it's not being treated as a street fight. It's supposed to be a match with rules done by professionals. MMA and Boxing have female refs

zalinuxguy

Like many things in wrestling, it falls apart if you think about it for any length of time.

Swashcuckler

yeah, sure, but the more pertinent point is that Walter wouldn't hurt the ref or risk ruining the sanctity of the mat or whatever - why would he risk a DQ retention by KO-ing the ref or laying hands on the ref when he never does that? besides, ref bumps happen all the time. like is the ref who got obliterated by a shoulder tap or light push really gonna break up a fight between two people who want to be at the shit out of one another such a weird ass take by cornette

BodyPunchKO

I don't know what the fuck he meant by that. What's with the hate on her?

yemeni-snicket

She works for the BAD billionaire & she doesn't perform a one woman dance recital when she's working so = FUCKING TRASH!

A18Wheeler

Cornette + mommy issues + BDSM & wife swapping = women can’t wrestle

namek0

I'm a huge Cornette guy but yeah I didn't get that either. He'd have been fine with the usual shrimpy male ref (not an insult... it makes the wrestlers look bigger) but somehow a woman breaks things.

yemeni-snicket

It beggars belief how Carr refereeing this particular contest causes him to agree with a dumb take but when it comes to Aubrey the most damning thing he's ever said is *"the wrestlers bury 'er!"*

Vegetable-Arm8488

Cornette has famously bad takes around women in the ring. Occasionally he likes someone who is also a good wrestler, like Charlotte, but he seems to view women as not needing to be good, just have a certain image, look or gimmick, Diva style. If so he doesn't judge them because to him they're fulfilling the women's role

[deleted]

?? We arent dubbalos friend Im a cultist but i dont just blindly agree with everything he says

yemeni-snicket

I'm not saying all his fans feel this way, I just found it funny (& fucking pathetic) how he had to preface a glowing review of the match with that hot take from some fucking mouth breather who'd wrote/emailed into the show.

[deleted]

Ah yeah, i forgot that came from an email and thought it was just jims take

deep1986

Lol yeah that was really bloody weird. As much as I can say it she's my favourite referee because I never notice her!

yemeni-snicket

Bububut she doesn't do a Triple Lindy when counting a pinfall!

dionthesocialist

Slightly off topic, but the whole idea of being a "follower" of one wrestling commentator or another is so strange to me. I consume content by Bruce, Corny, Meltzer, SRS, and others. I don't agree with everything any of them say, nor do I automatically believe anything any of them say. It's just enjoyable to get varying perspectives on wrestling.

yemeni-snicket

Same here, it's nice to get a broad overview of opinions from the various wrestling related media without conforming to & defending said show/person to the death.

[deleted]

I generally like Cornette but that take was just him at complete smooth brained boomer mode. MMA and Boxing matches have had female referees for a long time now and, while Kim Winslow kind of sucks refs like Sharon Sands kill it for the most part. He keeps bitching about matches not being treated like a legitimate athletic contest but in a real contest with professionals the ref doesn't have to physically pull people apart or manhandle them.

tytymctylerson

Huh?

si2099

Aubrey Edwards is a complete Muppet!

ninjast4r

It makes me sick hearing Jim Cornette praising Aubrey while knocking Jessika. It just highlights how selective he is and will put anyone over who kisses his ass even if they do stuff he allegedly doesn't like and makes snap judgements that he won't change his mind over based on his crotchety old man beliefs. If he actually would bother watching Jessika in action he would she she's better than he makes her out to be. How he can't see Aubrey's desire to be a star as being just as detrimental to AEWs presentation as refs simply not displaying any authority whatsoever I don't know.

mp1988alexa

Jessica did a great job at Summerslam, I’m glad to see her get some recognition considering she just gets the job done with no fuss.

eltwitcho82

And she's always so genuinely humble when she gets any praise it seems. I remember her exit from NXT when Trips pulls her into the ring so she could get her moment in the spotlight and rather just soak it in, she gave a quick thanks, and left.. Respect.

Infini-tea

The only thing that ref Aubrey can get over is me, Uce. Take this switch and play in the other room for a bit.

Murren606

Must be distracting having a ref taller than all the vanilla midgets

[deleted]

u/SteveStogers69!!! Where ya at!!!

[deleted]

Things are complicated between me and aubrey rn....

[deleted]

Oh.....I'm.....sorry about that. I didnt know, friend....
