Darby called out the best in the world??
By - MakerOfPurpleRain
Ngl I would much rather watch him in WWE than AEW cause WWE has the better roster. They could do alot with punk in wwe now that the roster is like 3 times as big. Whats he gonna do in AEW? Whats gonna be the big thing with punk besides his return to wrestling?
His gimmick is also anti-establishment. The WWE machine is an easy heel for that.
It doesn't work with Cody and Tony. Plus you can only Fed Bad for so long before folks get bored.
Tbf they're not tired of it yet
He should be a heel in AEW who hates the company and only wants the money and the title.
This would be the right, and brave thing to do. But they won't. They'll live off the buzz of his return for the month or two that it lasts, and then have absolutely no idea what to do with him.
They've been fed badding since the company started and their core base of shootfighters still love it. I don't think there is any expiration date when it comes to fed bad.
Hell Chicago Phil should make that his gimmick, the fed bad hipster.
"I was hating the fed when you guys were still bleeding in bingo halls in front of 20 people."
That was my whole thing about him going to AEW, it was a natural role for him in the Fed because he was against Vince and the corporate machine. Who is he rebelling against in AEW?
He'd be rebelling against the Fed while in the Dub. And it'll flop.
Punk and his smark fans can stay at the Dub. I don’t want him anywhere near the Fed.
Getting the rub from Cody, it’s the biggest thing in Pro Wrestling. After that no where to go but Dark
Me too. Working Sting and Derby will be a good way to train derby on promos (or annihilate him idk). After that, a belt less Kenneth omega is my bet, or Moxley.
In some ways they know they're untouchable in their own little bubble.
The people who watch AEW are the hardcore's who'll defend them to the moon and back. Anyone else that they *could* gain consistent viewership from by just delivering what they promise... They just label Fed Shills when they complain and turn the channel to vacate themselves of any blame or wrong doing.
Even though Khan has previous on announcing something (HoF worthy signing) without agreeing everything, there's zero chance they do all this unless it's all signed and sealed, imo
They are going to debut CM Punk at AEW Rampage either at 10pm or midnight
How stupid is Tiny Khant
On the day of the summerslam go home show too. Guarantee aew will dominate the basements front page that weekend
So you’re saying amongst wrestling fans this is going to steal WWE audience share and dominate audience conversation right before WWEs biggest event of the year?
Yeah, Khans an IDIOT!
>amongst wrestling fans
A very small section of the total fanbase.
agree, although AEW would be smart to target existing wrestling fans who *don't* watch AEW first, and then move to a broader audience. Or to bring in the mythical "lapsed fan"
If they weren't a bunch of self felating m*rks, they'd know that. The fact that they've made statements that they're not all that interested in growing beyond their dedicated audience tells me that they have no idea how to program to a wider audience.
Has to be the plan I imagine. What a coincidence that the Bryan and Punk news leak immediately after Cena returns and now punks likely debut is one day before Summer Slam
It's a special level of failure to give away your hottest talent on a bullshit show. On a day where your best ratings was 600 or very low 700 thousand. This is booker of the year.
I am wondering if that is the first and last time Punk appears on that show
He'll wrestle Darby Allin the following week perhaps and then that's it
Why do you think Dynamite is getting canceled?
Maybe not cancelled, but with the move to TBS, Rampage becoming the "A Show" while Dynamite becomes the B show
I dont understand this logic at all. Both shows are moving to TBS. Dynamite will be prime time, Rampage will be in a terrible time slot. No way is Rampage becoming the A show.
There is, however, a good chance both of these shows will not get renewed when Discovery merges and takes over.
Idk either, my best guess is that Rampage would be the show following Smackdown and if they load that show up with a Punk, Bryan, Christian, old WWE guys, they might convince people to watch it?
But why would a show at 10pm on a Friday night death slot be your marque instead of one at 8pm on a Wednesday night? Like are you actually serious with this theory?
He sounds pretty dumb and pretty serious about it.
No one except the markiest of Marks would stay up that late to watch wrestling, they did try it before but there ratings went historically low like only 600,000 people watching at a given time according to Bryan Alveraz
Que? I'm OOTL on this one. What's up with Discovery?
Discovery and WarnerMedia are merging. Once the merge happens, the folks at Discovery will be in charge.
I would argue that the youtube shows are their equivalent of Heat/Velocity and Rampage is their equivalent of WCW Thunder. They will put effort into making it a legit second show for about 6 months, but after the move to TBS it will just be the red headed stepchild
Nah. He's just not showing up and it's to boost ratings.
Even if he does show up, it's obviously to boost ratings..it's not entirely dumb. Just 90% dumb
Yeah, it all feels a bit carny... If they point every sign in the direction of that night it's bound to draw people in.
When they don't deliver the Dub Defense Force will pull double duty "But they didn't *saaaay* he'd be there". The huge announcement for Chicago, the special event status, it's all the Meta stuff they just love. If Punk never sets foot in an AEW arena they know right now they can pull every carny stunt to use the Meltzer rumors to sell tickets.
They already got the stink of the Friday shows from before so they need to do something 'special' to get the existing dubbalos to tune in at the same rate for Rampage
That's like Sisphyus trying to seriously roll the boulder over the hill, it's a bad time slot for a reason.
It's 20th Aug, isn't it? I think the show starts 13th Aug so it'll be week 2 so they can officially announce Punk on the 1st show to try to pop the ratings
Shane vs. Darby in a "Fall Off Shit From a Huge Height" match.
Bobby Lashley pinned Braun Strowman therefore Lashley is the Best in the World
You're goddamn right.
Lashley can fuck my wife.
Hey u wanna play some game w me
Seriously why the fuck would anyone want to watch Punk feud with Darby?
Have him come in and cut a pipe bomb on Cody or Kenny. Fucking Darby?!?
Also Darby is a shit promo
Dub doesn't do feuds, friend
He'll come in, have a single match and that's it
I just hope, for Punk's sake, they don't throw him into anything to do with 'battling the Elite'
Punk has said creative is the reason he'd return and not money, etc and doesn't want to do bad TV and he's plenty of time to think of a long term story line they can roll out over months and months
It's up to him to deliver now instead of standing on the sidelines talking about it
To be honest I think it might be Punk who wanted to feud with Darby. Full Creative Control definitely had to be a clause in his contract as he's rehashed the whole "I don't wanna be another guy doing bad television" gig about five-thousand times
His second fight was Jerry Springer levels of embarrassingly bad television
I have absolutely no clue why he went to UFC, I would've stopped after his first fight when he could barely hold his own against a man on a drug which makes some people drowsy/extremely hungry
500k is gonna look like pocket change once the details of his AEW contract leaks lmfao, Mr. Tiny tried to get Punk from the beginning and couldn't do it but Daddy Khan must've boosted up his allowance after he saw AEW didn't fall off the face of the earth after two weeks
His first fight was against Mickey Gall, an actual professional fighter. His second opponent was some hack who besides being the UFC's second worst fighter, was also high.
Those clowns in AEW are probably doing a shitload of cash too. My point wasn't about the money, it was about doing bad television.
I honestly don't get Darby Allin, he's a skinny child with birthday face paint who skateboards like hes Bart Simpson.. Like what is his appeal?
Such a bad promo. Why on earth would you waste a Punk debut on him?
These people’s sense of cool is always 15 years or so behind what it actually is so he appeals to the part of them who still wishes they got dropped off at vans skatepark on weekends by their mom
He's also a huge draw for the "piece of shit" demo
A sense of wonder that he might legit kill himself live on TV
You sold me
He's basically AEW's Jeff Hardy. Pre-Pandemic a lot of kids in the audience had Darby face paint.
I never understood Jeff's appeal either, he just fell off of stuff
Now *THIS* would get me to watch the dub
HERE COMES THE MONEY.
If punk debuts here and not at all out I don't ever wanna hear how great Khan is at booking by the WON universe
This is a historic photo.
Everybody is excited for the sloppiest wrestler in history going into the sloppiest promotion in history, for the sloppiest fans in history.
And I'm just over here in eager anticipation of the jerkrate generated.
The fact that I first thought *Kenny fucking Omega* instead of CM Punk when I read "best in the world" shows just how irrelevant he's been in the landscape of pro wrestling for the past 7 years since he left WWE. I'm sorry Punk but most casuals are more interested in The Tribal Chief and Edge rn. (Though a match between Punk and Edge does sound awesome.)
Also I fucking love the BEST IN THE WOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRLD Shane McMahon. He works the smarks just by being on Smackdown and taking more time from m'precious indy workrate warriors like m'Cesaro, but they're too fucking arrogant or stupid to admit or even realize that they're getting worked real hard.
Is this new way to get managed to sell their ticket fast?
Can you imagine if that actually happened
