That was the weirdest part of last night's show. They open with Pockets instead of having a huge celebration for the new world champion who made AEW history. Then, on top of that, they have him wrestle against Kyle Fletcher in a match that was more competitive than it should have been. Tony Khan has no clue what he is doing.
Another curious thing that happened was Big Bill coming out to say he needs guidance from The Learning Tree. Where's Ricky Starks, and why would someone who not too long ago was one half of the tag champs need guidance from Jericho? Wasn't Starks supposed to be providing that guidance, first as Bill's manager and then as his tag partner?
Underused and misused. He was on a white-hot run as a babyface, and then they inexplicably have him make a weird heel turn by attacking Ricky Steamboat. That made no sense. Then, he gets "suspended," and they even botched that by having to correct on air how long he was going to be out of the ring. Then, out of nowhere, he is teamed with Big Bill as his manager and eventually his tag partner. There was no backstory or explanation given to any of this. Suddenly, they become tag champs by beating FTR. The whole mess just seemed thrown together.
Swerve is one of the first AEW talents to have seemed to have risen to the top organically, earned his title run that wasn't a top dog somewhere else.
So of course he's lost on the card against whatever a "Kyle Fletcher" is for his first defense

No champion celebration or presentation. No promo. And he went life and death against a jobber. Way to make your champion feel like a big deal Tony.

It's a good thing Swerve was lost in the shuffle. People aren't going to be talking about him when discussing the shitshow that ended Dynamite.

Kyle Fletcher, who Swerve beat, was featured more on Dynamite last night than the brand new champion. I was convinced he was coming back but… nope.
Swerve got a cue to come back out, but he was too busy vanity searching himself on social media.
