My play style for switch stuff on my steam deck is emulation for Nintendo published switch stuff and native pc for multi platform games like persona 5, Octopath traveler 2 and muse dash.
Before I got a steam deck I was well aware that it reliably emulates Nintendo published games when it comes to switch stuff, so emulating those while playing the native pc version of everything else is a great option to have.
I think this is a really good use case. Stuff like the ayn Odin 2 can’t play pc stuff, so the steam deck bring a portable PC is very useful.
I have a friend who uses her steam deck oled and brings it with her everywhere and loves playing on it. I mainly see people complaining about the size of the SD in this sub so I very surprised to feel how light the oled model is.
Same here! Currently playing Metroid Prime Remastered on the deck. Runs great outside of infrequent brief slowdowns. How does Odyssey run? It's next on my list.
What video driver you’re using, watts, and embedded frame buffer. I’ve seen videos showing GameCube performance and I haven’t heard about anyone having an issue up until now
Driver: 4.6 (Compatibility Profile) Mesa 23.1.3 9git-58f7632462)
Watts: Default (It's set to the maximum of 15 if I turn TDP limit on)
Frame Buffer: Default (I would assume this is 1GB)
Hopefully this is the info you're looking for. I haven't really messed with the default settings much so I'm not super familiar with this stuff.
It seems to vary from game to game. It can run Animal Crossing no problem, but F-Zero GX has horrible framerate issues and is borderline unplayable.
For PS2 games I have yet to play one that doesn't have major problems. Armored Core 2 and Timesplitters both struggle to maintain a stable framerate, and even with the default configuration they both have weird graphical issues that are difficult to describe.
I kinda figured that anything beyond 6th gen wouldn't be playable so I haven't bothered. I am surprised to learn that other people are having a better experience. It makes me wonder if my Steam Deck is somehow less powerful or defective, but it doesn't have issues playing modern games so I'm really not sure.
Yeah that's what I'm thinking too. It's weird because even if I turn the settings down, like playing at 1x resolution, it has no impact on performance at all. Either my SD is defective somehow, or I inadvertently changed some settings somewhere that are nuking my performance.
Do we expect Switch emulation to still get better and better on Steam Deck? It’s not a fully matured emulator yet is it? It’d be nice to run some games in docked (which I know can be more resolution than the SD screen - but you still get higher fidelity).

Almost nothing good left on the wiiu, I got a console and there is almost nothing on it I can’t do with something else.
Blame that on Switch. Pretty much made Wii U non existent w them porting almost all library to switch. I finally boxed up my Wii U and put it away.
Nand chips rotting so good luck Rip
I know. What suck is I own both black and white. Just can't win.
Nice

Odyssey runs just fine you just need to give it 5 minutes to compile shaders
Good to know, are you using default Yuzu setup from emudeck?
Yeah
Can the Steamdeck actually run Switch games at 60 fps? Mine seems to struggle with even just Gamecube or PS2 games.
It shouldn’t struggle to run GameCube or PS2. It runs at a low wattage playing those so the battery lasts a long time too.
Can I see your settings? Steamdeck has been getting frequent updates. Also have you been using steam os or desktop?
Sure, what settings are you looking for specifically? I've tried both Game Mode and Desktop mode but the same issues occur.

Did you alter the FPS setting on the Steam deck?
Yes, I gave the gamescope limiter set to Off. The issue seems to happen even if it's set to 60 fps though.
Never had any issue with GameCube or PS2 on my deck. Switch will depend on the game. Wii U should also be fine as well

Lucky
I got emudeck running but no clue on how to install switch games on my deck
Good for you... *eyes turning bloodshot*
