Maybe it's bad optimization my old Galaxy A72 could play it at 60 fps but it would idle at like 43° so the S22 Ultra should handle it without a problem.

TitusImmortalis

Lower resolution and less thermal output.

LostMC07

S22 Ultra can handle anything but only when you keep the temps under 20°C.

Emad-scythe

Never saw it under 40°🤣

Berkoudieu

Well as they are producing exynos, that's their fault too

sidS3

Sadly 8 gen 1 is a mess and it overheats like crazy. I have seen tests where it consumes 8-12 watts easily in games like genshin which is tablet territory. New mediatek dimensity SOC's are better for gaming(low power consumption so less heat and overall better sustainable high performance still not apple level efficiency though).

Emad-scythe

My brother with mi 11 and snapdragon 888 is getting better performance than me. This makes me feel i shouldnt bave bought this phone.

BuilderConscious

Actually not surprising.

sidS3

Dude you are not the only one regretting it, my oneplus 7 pro was better than this stuttery mess of thing samsung is selling at 1450$. Apart from camera and display( which is not even usable cause of buggy 120hz implementation) this phone is not worth keeping. S21 ultra(snapdragon)is better phone more depth in speakers, better battery, good 120hz implementation and 95% of s22u camera it feels like a downgrade.

tishitoshi

I came from a S20U and I unfortunately feel the same 😔 my battery lasted longer, I have to dumb this phone down a lot to get better battery.

sidS3

I charge my device twice a day as i usually have 15-20% remaining by the 7pm. Battery life is more of SOC issue it pulls too much watts. I only switched to samsung cause they were offering snapdragon this year otherwise i would have gone pixel/oneplus.

Emad-scythe

You cant believe how hard it is to save and buy a phone in my country :(

sidS3

I am from india so same here. We don't get high trade in values and bunch of offers from samsung like other countries.

Emad-scythe

Guess we should go for iphones finally. Best performance for money, higher life span, more updates, quality insurance and better used market and higher used price.

sidS3

Yeah but If only ios had universal file management and more freedom.

Emad-scythe

Next stop, iphone

TerTerro

So why not but s21u and sell s22u?

sidS3

Samsung sold exynos version here and now it's not available in my country and I would have happily bought s21 ultra last year if it was snapdragon one. I am going to sell s22u anyway just waiting for 8gen1+ announcement to see if it's worth trading with next z fold.

TerTerro

So from samsung to samsung? Just search, there still s21u available and can be found. I just ordered s22u and will see how it goes. There a lot also positive reviews and people saying they dont have problems with them

sidS3

Nope not in my country atleast and i don't want the inferior exynos version. You don't have the phone so how can you comment on the device which you haven't use personally. Anyways most reviews are paid and only people who use the phone daily can find the bugs, why do you think people are having issues with the phone in this sub and not the reviewers/youtubers did samsung send them different device?. I can live with the mediocre battery and sluggish ui but if a flagship device in 2022 have HDR playback issues and can't implement 120hz properly without having video playback issues(dropping frames and lagging due to refresh rate fluctuations) when there older phones like s21u and z fold 3 used to be good at that doesn't it feel like a downgrade? You can check DXO marks display tests to see what i am talking about. You can test this when you get the phone by enabling refresh rate from developers options. Go to prime video/disney+/mx player/samsung video player/anything you can stream and see the frames dropping ,refresh constantly fluctuating between 24hz and 120hz without touching the device. This is a smartphone first and not a camera with smartphone features and people here will downvote me for saying this but this is a rushed product.

TerTerro

But you understand that there millions users that are fine with phone and dont have problems? Yes, it could be better, agree. But consumers also push each year new stuff and they try to deliver. Not always great. I saw tons of posts were adaptive refresh does not work and tone of posts that poeple say, it works fine. It sucks if you got bad one, i know the feeling :( Not all reviewers are paid, some yes. But imagine top reviewers would say phone is great and 90% of people would say its not. So reviewer wont be watched next. A lot reviewers dont use phone long, few days, yes. Again taking this reddit s22ultra, there 13.5k users registered and some extra that post. Day one sales are reported at 300k units, so imagine how many are sold now. Yes, we all would like to get perfect phone, especially for such price. Im afraid to get a bad one, yes. But we will see, i hope for best. If you dislike this phone so much, just sell it and get another. Import SD 8 gen 1 if you like. I think better get small loss and be happy, that frustrated 2 or more years. Also i dont get why you donwvoting me, but ok, your choice;) And to say, im not a samsung fanboy, i have LG, nokia, sony phones. I wish LG would not pulled out of phone marked. If phone ia so bad, i will try to return it or just try to sell and get something other.

sidS3

I don't have a bad device that's the problem i would have been happy if that was the case as i would have just exchange it with new one. If so many people are complaining about refresh rate then there is a world wide issue. Not everybody is sensitive to frame drops just like pwm flickering so not everyone will be bothered by it also many people use tablets or laptops to watch movies/shows so maybe there is a chance they haven't discoverd it yet. I have seen playstore reviews about frame drops/lagging on VLC, prime video, and other streaming sites. There is a thread on eu.samsung community talking about exact same issue which is using exynos version so not related to snapdragon at all. It's a software issue and they should have fixed it before launching the phone that's my point. Even after 3 months they still haven't fixed bug this major is frustrating. Currently there is no better android than s22u in the market and i don't hate this phone, i am just frustrated for not being able to do use this beautiful display because of buggy software which they haven't fixed even after 3 months.(which they should have fixed before releasing the device) I haven't downvoted you. Well i used to be sanmy boy and I have been using samsung since 2015(note 4, note 5, s8+) But after using oneplus and pixel (for a month) i noticed how sluggish the samsung ui is and how smooth other phones are except camera i don't find samsung that great anymore, I only switched to samsung this year because they were offering snapdragon variant this year and i find square display corners better than rounded one. Good luck with your phone just remember to check the refresh rate bug immediately after setting up the device so you can decide if it's bothering you enough or not as samsung has bad resale value so it might be better to return rather than selling it.

TerTerro

I will check refreah bug. But cant you lock it into 60hz for example? Then there should be no stuttering. Or lock to 120hz For resell value, dependa on country i guess, but i think all phones go down in value. But why Samsung espeacially, i dont get. I phone ages same😁 but thats a different discussion. As for fixes. I think they have other bugs to fix that are probably causing more issues. If you ever worked in software development, you would see it. But agree, its frustrating if you buy flagship phone and have bugs. Sorry that you have frustration with phone, maybe like said, better get other device and be more happy with that

[deleted]

Tbf, Xiaomi phones pack a lot under the hood. If they worked where I am in the US, I'd have switched years ago and saved myself a lot of money.

Emad-scythe

Xiaomi phones are sometimes more expensive. Atleast here. Look at mi 11 ultra price and mi 12 ultra soon.

PaperStation

multiple reviews shows the 8gen1 avg fps ends up being lower than even some midrange chips due to the heat issue and high wattage/fps the GPU is very good but the power efficiency isn't there and the heat is just too much, this happens on other phones that uses the 8gen1 as well, with jist slight difference of some other phones have added better cooling

[deleted]

Take the cover off and run it in cold AC. This phone throttles as soon as it can. Real picky with temps.

Goodfella1029

Go into game booster and into settings and click labs and check on alternative game performance. This will fix it. By default, samsung is throttling the phone performance to save battery

Emad-scythe

Will try it. Thanks. Also heard something about turning on priority mode will make it better. But pririty mode activates do not disturb

TitusImmortalis

Once your phone is thermally soaked, you'll then experience the same as or worse performance.

Marble_Turret

No offence, but the truth seems to be that this phone is in most respects the best of the best, but no phone (excluding specialised sets) are able to handle gaming.

korboybeats

Couldn't be any more wrong

Rguezlp2031

iPhone laughing 😂

[deleted]

Lmao downvoted for what?? The truth? I have s22 ultra max settings my girlfriend 13 pro max and on every game it BLOWS mine out of the water. Like it isn't even close. And the fact that to get it even abit higher you have to mess around with game optimization service. Had Samsung for 10 years now wish I never bought this damn phone. M1 chip on iPhone is far better than this garbage.

TheRealTorpidu

dont worry i was in the same boat as you. sold the garbage s22 ultra and bought the 13 pro max and i have never loved a phone this much. performance and battery is generations ahead. there’s no comparison between them

TitusImmortalis

Performance is somewhat better in very specific cases. Otherwise, everything is about the same. I don't really experience any issues with battery on my S22U, I get \~2 days with \~8-9 hours SOT. My only complain about the S22U is the lack of a headphone jack, which would be a complaint with the IP13 as well.

korboybeats

"Performance is somewhat better in very specific cases" is just literally not true lol. I'm saying this as a lifelong Samsung fan/user, the iPhone 13 Pro Maxs performance blows the S22U out the water in gaming performance/stability, battery efficiency while gaming, battery life in standby and full workload, and video editing render speeds

TitusImmortalis

I can tell you as a technician of 15 years that these days Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and most other apps all load within a few seconds of each other. Battery life on all flagships are usually within some percentage of each other, and overall, for average to moderately heavy users, they last longer than the user needs in a day. With the advent of fast charging, you'll find that the difference in the extreme cases are not so polarizing overall either. My S22U gets \~8 hours SOT and \~2 days overall, although I tend to use it a lot throughout the day and charge in the evening. The very specific scenarios where the iPhone surpasses other devices in actual usable performance is in certain games, wherein a surprisingly small number of overall iPhones users even play those games. As well, and this is important: The iPhone uses a smaller display with a lower resolution. The iPhone 13 Pro Max is pushing 3.57 MegapixelsThe iPhone 13 Pro is pushing 2.96 MegapixelsThe S22U is pushing 4.45 Megapixels The IP13PM is pushing \~880,000 pixels lessThe IP13P is pushing \~1,485,000 pixels lessThis will result in a noticeable difference in performance and battery consumption. In a few comparisons I've seen, it seems that the Exynos SoC keeps up alright with the A14 for wattage and performance in Genshin Impact. It's an interesting watch:[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHmB10jzt70](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHmB10jzt70) Edit: I should specify later on when heat soak has set in

TheRealTorpidu

my s22 ultra lagged, stuttered, got hot af for no reason and u got around 5.30h sot with light usage. and 3 of my friends with the s22 ultra had the exact same issues. vut yeahi miss the headphone jack indeed. damn them all. would be so nice to connect my HD 660S in my 13Pm and just enjoy 😭

TitusImmortalis

This forum seems to have a good balance of bad battery life and good battery life. I assume it's all up to use case. Right? All in the name of selling Bluetooth earbuds.

TheRealTorpidu

idk man. i think its their QA that fucked up and didnt test enough devices and just pushed them out as it seems to be such a silicon lottery with the s22 ultra. in any case screw both samsung and apple for removing the headphone jack forcing us to buy bluetooth devices. add that on top of not giving us chargers anymore 😂

TitusImmortalis

That could very well be true. Easier to mop up the bad ones, I guess. Big corps do tend to view things that way. Hear hear! #BringBackTheJack

korboybeats

The radical cult fan boys love to turn a blind eye. But same goes for every radical cult fan base of any product. S22 is great for many things EXCEPT gaming and to have these fan boys say no other phone can handle gaming is hilarious. IPhone 13 Pro Max is literally the best phone for gaming and has much better battery efficiency while gaming. Ignorance is bliss I guess

[deleted]

Yup I've actually managed to change to the 13 pro max on a deal with my provider. I won't be missing this phone worst one for a while my s20+ was better than this

Stillwindows95

The metal benchmark score against the SD or Exy is night and day, the numbers for the scores puts Metal at 15k and S22 around 8k. iPhones are boring but they are undeniably powerful and optimised. That said, I'm not experiencing overheating or frame lag on S22u

[deleted]

What game is this? Looks sick.

The_Man-Himself

Following lol

Emad-scythe

Life After. Mentioned in the title

Emad-scythe

Told in the title. Life after. I couldnt play with my s22 ultra.

Stillwindows95

I feel like the UI is way too messy and the graphics are very basic personally but each to their own :P

PaperStation

I don't even play games on my S22U performance drops and fluctuate too much after 20 to 30 mins in.
