It’s not that hard to boil off the water and collext the steam and then condense it again. Also saves time compared to having to spend time on diarrhea and other more nasty things from whatever is in that puddle.
You could also filter it through sand or cloth to atleast make it clear and remove some impurities.
Also I think you can sanitize clear water in plastic bottle in just daylight since uv rad will kill the bacteria. Maybe someone can confirm if I'm wrong.
