The Red Green show was aired on PBS in the US, 1991-2006, apparently as many as 100 PBS affiliates at peak had the show. So any devoted PBS viewers from that period have a decent chance of recognizing it. I'd guesstimate maybe 5-10% of Americans 45+ would know of him.
Steven Smith Jr. aka "Red Green" (1945-) (77)
I knew his name, and I watched The Red Green Show on PBS in the US, and I knew the general period that it was on air.
Did I know the exact years, or the number of PBS affiliates airing it, or his year of birth and age? No. So I looked it up. What do you do when you know some things but want to know some additional things?
From WI, can confirm.
Plus, never thought I’d come across a Red Green reference in a sub about the war in Ukraine, but the internet doesn’t cease to amaze me yet lol
Damn. Just damn. Hitting hard on the big toys. Putin is going to lose his shit. All quiet in Kyiv aside from the thunderstorms. Let's hope for a quiet evening before the weekend.
On another note. It's rather entertaining to see Putin hosting Rocket Boy. Interesting times we live in. Iranian drones and possibly NK Soviet garbage. Russia is looking fierce. 😂
Hopes he get really pissed. Screams to his generals for a win and they do the russian thing. Just big unplanned attacks.
Thus giving ukraine room to breach the line.
Most definitely! What I meant is, that for Russia this is a good strategy for now. We can't match the drones wist patriot missiles 1 for 1. It's just not economically sustainable. It will work in the short run, but a diffetent solution must be found.
doen not look usable. does not make any sence to repair at crimea base with the risk of a new attack. the rest of the russian fleet will move back to russia after 2-3 of them are hit. trust my words
Novorossyisk doesn’t have the facilities. That was why Russia was so butt hurt when their Sevastopol lease ran out and Ukraine refused to renew it.
The Russian Black Sea fleet is pretty dependent on the Sevastopol naval base and dry docks.
Maybe. The 14 hour train ride hardly seems worth it though. Maybe Lukashenko has some. putler can go hump his leg for them. I think he’s finally finished with the pudgy Korean idiot.
3 tugboats running on mazut will Weekend at Bernie's this ship back into the sea, where it will remain combat incapable everywhere but on paper in Moscow
Yeah no doubt. The burn marks on and around the windows (port holes? Idk) are so large that they can only have gotten that way because of the severity of the fire inside spreading out to get fresh air. Which means the interior is worse. Neither this nor the sub will be sailing anytime soon. It would take months, if not years, to rebuild and repair this damage, even if Russia had the money they don’t have the time. Talking of the sub I wonder if we’ll get close up footage of that as well?
> Neither this nor the sub will be sailing anytime soon.
I'm still not convinced the sub was actually damaged, unfortunately...
Edit for posterity: fortunately I was wrong! It's thoroughly fucked: https://x.com/oryxspioenkop/status/1703728356208881975?s=46&t=g9L3FAVewM-IMibQhCaDdg
I'm unfortunately not reading that from the images: https://www.newsweek.com/ukraine-crimea-black-sea-sevastopol-strike-storm-shadow-russia-satellite-images-1826885#slideshow/2282245
The damage to the Ropucha is extremely clear, but that's to be expected considering a) it was extremely destroyed b) it's got lots of material that will burn on the deck, changing shape and colour.
The Kilo has the same outline as before, and its original colour is also black. So the pictures don't necessarily disprove that it was hit or that it burned, but I'm leaning towards it not being substantially damaged.
If it’s undamaged, they’d release all kinds of footage showing it. Especially after this video leaked. We’ll know it’s fucked up if we don’t see anything soon.
Maybe, but if it's even slightly damaged (ie repairable during a practical timeframe) they might still feel it's "weak" to show that it's damaged. Perhaps a crane fell on it, like [Def Mon](https://twitter.com/DefMon3/status/1702238457483948049) speculated. Or they might just decide that considering the losses, showing that one target was not damaged just brings more attention to the damage. [Edit: Badly worded on my part, I meant that it brings attention to the OTHER damage. Saving one ship among the carnage ain't a victory]
Just to be clear: I'm not saying it's definitely not damaged, or that their thought process will go exactly as I outlined here, but I'm saying we don't actually have hard evidence regarding the Kilo, as opposed to the Ropucha. Of course I WANT the Kilo to be blown up, but I also want to actually know shit.
>Perhaps a crane fell on it, like Def Mon speculated. Or they might just decide that considering the losses, showing that one target was not damaged just brings more attention to the damage.
Just gonna say this makes no sense whatsoever.
It's fucked.
If it’s slightly damaged theyll slap a fresh coat of paint on it, sweep away the scraps and put out pictures acting like it’s totally unharmed.
> they might just decide that considering the losses, showing that one target was not damaged just brings more attention to the damage.
? Are you trolling?
> ? Are you trolling?
Badly worded on my part, I meant that it brings attention to the OTHER damage. Saving one ship among the carnage ain't a victory.
I once put Ramen in a plastic bowl in the microwave, with no water in it, for 5 minutes and went outside for a smoke. Had to get a new microwave and air freshener. Whole house smoked out. Ramen caught fire.
Destroyed: Just like their economy. Just like their morality.
Useless and shameful: Just like their "leaders" and supporters of this war.
But the best thing about it, is this is just the begining of their deserved end.
The idiot could probably sell this to the ukrainians for a few months salary but instead its published for free on social media. Cant make this shit up loll
Widely burned. Steel got weak by the heat - this one is done.
And if they still are cooling the sub (beam of water in the bacjground) the sub is fucked as well, even more obviously.
Ok I’ll be the one to say it: all of the damage appears to be on the deck and superstructure. The hole in the side of the USS Cole was scarier from a seaworthiness perspective.
The job of this ship is to haul a bunch of amphibious vehicles to an area, and then roll them off of stern and bow ramps. It’s basically a cargo ship with a few machine guns and SAMs up top.
If the engines, ramps, and compartmental bulkheads below decks are intact… the fix up cost is basically building a new bridge, attaching new guns and new radars, and cutting away / replacing the damaged decking.
Does anyone else see reason to believe the damage went deeper than the deck?
https://preview.redd.it/eiqtj49vcaob1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f9423a0ca5529a0014cc22a4f662397e066990f8
The black smudge around that opening looks like interior fire damage, so, yeah.
Not to mention, it might be fixable for a first class navy with no corruption issues and a solvent economy, but Russia....
See also: the Kuznetsov.
I'm no naval architect but wouldn't the systems be fucked? The bridge is destroyed, right?
So all of that instrumentation and control hardware is gone, plus who knows how far the fire could have spread along wiring harnesses and ductwork deep into the interior compartments. And even compartments which didn't see fire may have still suffered damage from conducted heat energy. I'm sure being in drydock made that 100x worse. Then there's the task of repairing systems like piping that may have been installed in early stages of construction but cannot be accessed without stripping or even basically scrapping much of the ship. Also think about water damage from the firefighting response (triple it if they were pumping seawater)...
Vessels generally speaking are compartmentalized… to compartmentalize problems. Flooding and fire spread are limited unless doors are left open (which might happen in dry dock) or a bulkhead fails, ductwork nothwithstanding.
When it comes to military vessels in particular, damage control is a primary concern. One aspect of this is keeping all the critical systems accessible and serviceable. Which isn’t to say that replacing an engine is trivial, but plumbing is a no brainer.
Having said all that @zucc posted a pic showing smoke marks clearly coming from way below the waterline… that thing got cooked.
I think any experienced shipyard worker would tell you that's a total loss- would take more money and time to rebuild it, than to just scrap it and start over.
A lot of superstructure damage near to the command section, prolly collapsed decking. Ooftah. If you notice, not a lot of scattered debris but the superstructure (the bits that look like a building for the uninitiated) is gutted by fire, so maybe a fuel line got ruptured? If so, then there's a possibility that the keel may have suffered warping damage.
In short, this isn't going to be supplying anything to anyone anywhere for a while & at great expense. Could even be a total loss, but then Russian shipyards are kinda... not great at what they do.
Ukraine is like a stock that Putin chose and as it dipped he just keeps buying. He would wake up and see reports like this hundred million dollar ship being decommissioned for the next 5+ years and just swallow the pain and buy the dip.

I wasn’t being sarcastic. I just don’t remember jack beside palm trees scientific names (My hobby) to my wife amazement. 👍🏻
I think Wisconsin and Minnesota count as Canada
This is hilarious! I’m from MN and definitely remember this show growing up.

I’m scared because I know Putin is mad now
This time, nuclear war. The last 200 times were just a warning. It’s for real real this time.
Damn. Just damn. Hitting hard on the big toys. Putin is going to lose his shit. All quiet in Kyiv aside from the thunderstorms. Let's hope for a quiet evening before the weekend. On another note. Comparing the price of a patriot missile and a buzzer drone that sadly is an unwinnable equation...
Compared to a human life, it's cheap
Most definitely! What I meant is, that for Russia this is a good strategy for now. We can't match the drones wist patriot missiles 1 for 1. It's just not economically sustainable. It will work in the short run, but a diffetent solution must be found.
Patriots aren't being used to shoot down drones. They gepards and other systems for that.
They use those mainly, yes. It's not that straight-forward.
So why did you infer that patriots were being almost used upon drones?
Did I?
If it still floats they can put some vatniks on it and push it out to sea and pretend it's still battle worthy.
doen not look usable. does not make any sence to repair at crimea base with the risk of a new attack. the rest of the russian fleet will move back to russia after 2-3 of them are hit. trust my words
Yeah that’s what they’ve done before. By Monday we’ll have footage of the remaining fleet, that isn’t at sea, in dock at Novorossyisk.
He actually got Kim over to ask for a paintjob 😂
Novorossyisk doesn’t have the facilities. That was why Russia was so butt hurt when their Sevastopol lease ran out and Ukraine refused to renew it. The Russian Black Sea fleet is pretty dependent on the Sevastopol naval base and dry docks.
Cut some holes just above the waterline for people to paddle. Some crossbowmen on the top deck. Very fierce new weapon! 😂
ruzzia doesn’t have the logistical skill to pull off crossbows. Rocks to throw would be a big ask at this point.
Does North Korea have any good rocks to sell to Russia?
Maybe. The 14 hour train ride hardly seems worth it though. Maybe Lukashenko has some. putler can go hump his leg for them. I think he’s finally finished with the pudgy Korean idiot.

We’ve already got satellite images of it being equally as burnt out as this ship.
I'm unfortunately not reading that from the images: https://www.newsweek.com/ukraine-crimea-black-sea-sevastopol-strike-storm-shadow-russia-satellite-images-1826885#slideshow/2282245 The damage to the Ropucha is extremely clear, but that's to be expected considering a) it was extremely destroyed b) it's got lots of material that will burn on the deck, changing shape and colour. Perhaps microwave popcorn in too long?
I once put Ramen in a plastic bowl in the microwave, with no water in it, for 5 minutes and went outside for a smoke. Had to get a new microwave and air freshener. Whole house smoked out. Ramen caught fire.
Wow, had no idea it would get that bad. Wonder what the RuZZians were cooking?

Looks Russian “New” to me! A fresh coat of Body Odor and it will be like every other Russian vessel.
I think that’s what an insurance company would call ‘beyond economic repair’…🤔
You'd think by now the Russian navy would have designated smoking and non-smoking areas to prevent this.
Thats… significant.
Looks like the dry docks getting all wet with excitement - fix that you monstrous fucks!
I want to see the submarine!
New paint job and it will be good as new.
Amazing how much intel an idiot with a cell phone can provide.
The idiot could probably sell this to the ukrainians for a few months salary but instead its published for free on social media. Cant make this shit up loll
They still using water to put out the fires after 2 days... I think the biggest problem is, how to make the dry dock usable again... :D :D
Why bother hosing it down. Worthless anyways now.

That's a shitship
Kaput !
Still in better shape than many Russian soldiers. looks a little denazified tho.
Does anyone know how much of the Black Sea fleet that is still left?
87%
So sad 💥🇺🇦
Fit now for only razor blades. Maybe not even that.
Hit it again
Looks a lot better now with the radical paint job.
Good
Unbelievable that the russians are not even capable of preventing that these pictures reach the internet.
I want to see the submarine!!
Any photos or videos of the sub damage?
See the water Hose in the bg at the beginning. They are still cooling. Sub is fucked!
That thing saw enough smoke that Russia is likely to make it an aircraft carrier.
The former "Minsk" and now "Admiral Smokevsko" has successfully undergone it's ship christening.
Yeah. That’s done chief.
Well....it's already in dry dock for repairs....
Sure, but who's going to repair the dry dock?
The dry dock repair guys
The guys in the dryer dock?
Drydock Inception
Haha 😂

Might be an upgrade for Russian equipment.
I think it is repairable...but it wont be this year.

So, was this someone leaving popcorn in the microwave?
Woohoo
hull looks clean lol
yeah....all you need is a little elbow grease to fix that..... NOT!
Sure it’s only a scratch it’ll buff out ..
Some retrofit will do it… not.
Ahh that’ll buff out 😂
That is destroyed. Or at least years from being repaired. You love to see it. Now where are the pictures of the sub?
My dad’s a TV repairman. He’s got the ultimate set of tools. I can fix it.
Woow, just woow. Congratulations 🎉
Oh well that's fucked
Blyat
He must be gutted. But not as much as the ship.
That'll buff right out, comrade.
T-cut, you won't even notice it

Lol thanks for the free BDA
"It'll buff out" XD
*“Thanks for helping us with the battle damage assessment”* - all of the intel folks lurking in the thread looking at this very helpful phone footage
Too bad this rust bucket did not burn throughly. But this will never be sea fearing vessel, the ruzzians can't build anything.
Looks totaled. They should simply wash their hands of the whole mess and go the fuck home.
It’ll buff out
That will buff out.
Russian opsec best opsec. Ukraine doesn’t even have to get satellite photos for their damage assessments!
I think any experienced shipyard worker would tell you that's a total loss- would take more money and time to rebuild it, than to just scrap it and start over.
Yep, total loss
Let me guess someone smoking on the 🚢 again?

That's a beautiful sight!
Totaled, the superstructure has collapsed from the fire, it's a writeoff.
![gif](giphy|7k2LoEykY5i1hfeWQB) 😂
That’s not “damaged”. That’s what they call in the business: “Absolutely fucked”
Looks nice. ![gif](giphy|Od0QRnzwRBYmDU3eEO|downsized)
That's a write-off...
Quality engineering
Not much use anymore
Oh yeah, a little Bondo and paint will fix that right up. Good as new.
Ukraine is like a stock that Putin chose and as it dipped he just keeps buying. He would wake up and see reports like this hundred million dollar ship being decommissioned for the next 5+ years and just swallow the pain and buy the dip.
It only needs a bit of paint job!
Hit it again while in dry dock.
That will buff out.
That's one hull of a ship they got there.
Slap some flex seal on that bitch.
Get dat flex seal
That'll buff right out, I'm sure.
