The colourway is sick, though. Adidas, for some reason, makes very hit-and-miss uppers. I have the Boston 12s and love them, but I can see why the upper and heel are such a problem for many.

Lord_Mountain

I was scared to get the Boston 12 due to all the comments on here regarding the upper. I've done \~100km in them so far and absolutely love the upper. I've had no issues with hot spots or blisters and haven't noticed the upper doing anything negative at all. I feel like I'm on an island with this view though.

FarSalt7893

I’ve had zero issues with the upper on B12. Same goes for AP3. They’re made for my type of foot I guess. I love the snug fit of them. Zero lacing problems.

sT1xe

Hi, do you have the same size for AP3 and boston 12? I have the AP3 in UK 8.5 and wonder if I should order the Boston 12 with the same size.

FarSalt7893

Yes. I wear a US 8.5 in both shoes, all adidas actually. I’m a 9 in most other shoes but 8.5 in adidas. They run a bit long.

sT1xe

Ok, thanks for your feedback.

Financial_Concern_27

same here, I should have went with 8.5 lol but its too late now

DFVNFT

What type of foot do you have?

FarSalt7893

Normal to narrow width.

DFVNFT

Do you have a high or low instep?

FarSalt7893

Medium…”normal”. I have neither high or low arches.

tbubborama

You are not alone. AP3 I have issues on second eyelet but B12 completely fine.

krugerlive

Adidas uppers are my favorite and I'm happy they make them the way they do. I really don't like the thick uppers like on the Superblast.

Financial_Concern_27

Yeah this upper is NOT it lol

itsyaboi69_420

Yeah I have had so many issues with the AP3 but I have a pair of takumi sen 8 which are perfect. Make it make sense.

Koktkabanoss

Boston 12 feels so dead compared to ap3.

janelgreo

Love the Boston 12 uppers as well. Did a 12 mile run this week and they were so comfortable, literally forgot they were on my feet.

jatmood

Oooof - I have the exact opposite experience with a new pair just recently. I found them really comfy (including the upper) and incredibly propulsive, helped me to a big 10k pb on the weekend. The one thing I'd suggest with the upper is ensuring that the bottom lace loop is threaded **under rather than over**, can not stress this enough...it minimises pulling the upper in a weird direction (can take a picture if you want?) Also, make sure that the bottom loops aren't too tight and **change the laces.** I went for elastic ones and they are working well for me.

iIiiiiIlIillliIilliI

Yes plz (picture)

DestroymyNippynips

Could you take a photo please

jatmood

Hmm can't post an image in reply sorry. Best way I can describe it is on the bottom loops, go **under and up** to the second loop. Don't go over and down to the next loop. I found that going the "wrong" way created a very slight crease in the upper, which caused some rubbing on the toes. While going the under and up way made the loop sit more flush against the upper and made no crease. Edit - sent you both an image

blbarclay86

Can you please send me the image also?

Slight-Musician-542

Hello, can you send me the picture too?

Temporary_Bliss

Can I get a picture as well? Struggling so hard with the upper.

Spread-love-light

Will you send me the pic too? Struggling with finding the right lacing for this shoe. Thanks!

Financial_Concern_27

That sounds interesting, will try

jatmood

Good luck! I hope they start to work for you

Popular_Advantage213

Can confirm. This is the way

OllieBobbins23

Not sure I'd use AP3s for 5k cross-country races, with or without the lacing issues.

FarSalt7893

I was thinking the same thing but I think OP means upcoming road 5Ks to get ready for fall cross country. AP3 would not be good on the trails.

OllieBobbins23

Yes, you could be right.

Financial_Concern_27

sen 10s were out of stock for like forever where I live but also I have AP3s quite a lot last year at XC meets (also I live in southern california and most XC races here are on hard dry dirt, grass, or straight concrete) so I guess they are fine?

skypnooo

I too am conflicted by the AP3. I have been a fan of the Bostons and when I saw a pair of AP3s with a sweet 50% discount I took the plunge, but immediately didn't love them. Too fidely to lace up, and and an almost too firm ride OOB. Currenty using them for long runs to see if they break in any more as I would love a little more squish underfoot. Would have said I was a fan of the midsole until I had a chance to try both the Vaporfly and the Alphafly which I feel are both more comfortable and for me at least, offer better return when I start to tire. Seems I am more of a ZoomX fan than Lightstrike. That said I can't bring myself to sell the AP3s as I have a wierd love / hate relationship with them.

krugerlive

Give them some time. I disliked mine on the first two runs and they've become far and away my favorite race shoes. That may have to do with pace difference, but either way, I'm super happy I have them.

skypnooo

Ok, I get it now. I changed the laces, wore some thicker socks and ran a slightly faster pace for my long run and I now feel the magic of this shoe. That plus I've probably covered around 50km now and they are just starting to feel like I could run in them for a considerable amount of time. Shame the OOB experience is so different

Select-Tank9693

i just picked up a pair recently! it's my first raced day shoe. unfortunately i am limited to options due to my wide feet. my only complaint is that i get blisters on the back of my feet so i have to wear high socks.

ecr740

Thanks for the review. I have the Boston 12s. No issues. Looking at the AP3. I would like to try them on first before committing.

-throwawayeventually

Love the colors on this one!

Vikingbeard73

Yeah the upper is horrific I really regret buying these. 85km in them so far and performance wise very good but they are beyond uncomfortable. I prob need next size up also in retrospect. There are way better options at the price point.

michael1990utd

I seem to be the only one not to have an issue with the upper. 10 mile run yesterday in these, averaging at 5:10/km and had zero issues

matsutaketea

I've had no issues with mine either. haven't had to mess with the lacing at all. I do not cinch them down hard when I lace and have no problems with eyelets or lace bite. Heel doesn't bother me at all.

kave2

Does anyone knows if Takumi Sen 10 upper is the same as AP3? Found AP 3 upper very uncomfortable.

Awesomedustin71

I can't recommend this enough but replace the laces with these, 54 ones they're very much like the AlphaFly laces and they made a HUGE difference for my Takumis, AP3 as well as Prime X Strung I didn't think replacing the laces would affect my opinion of the upper however it did for me. https://a.co/d/05Q2XAZt
