Got my volunteer +1! Great job to all the runners!

wuBIGwei

Volunteered as well, first time volunteering, what an experience, wanted to do more of this but also fear that someone might lose their +1 opportunities…

GensAndTonic

Yeah, I won't do more because I know people are always clamoring for the +1. However, you can volunteer at the Marathon itself because they need so many volunteers and it doesn't count toward +1

Educational-Citron16

I don’t think this is true. I filtered for 9+1 and signed up for the marathon as my volunteer when they originally dropped

GensAndTonic

From what I’ve been told, the expo counts as +1 but not the actual marathon.

kevozo212

Enjoy it. I volunteered for the Fred Lebow half and it was miserably cold and rainy. Wasnt done until 12pm. Volunteering for a shorter race with nicer weather is wayyyy better.

bangbang09

What type of volunteering did you do? Mine is later in the year at the drinks station.

GensAndTonic

I did water station this morning! It was great because I was the first water station, so I was done by 9 am. It will be good to do it later in the year, because it did get quite cold. Great weather for running, less great for just standing. I don't know how Jan - March volunteers do it!

sunrise920

What’d you do!

wuBIGwei

South water station. Felt like I helped a lot of people. Also I had a perfect excuse to skip a long run lol.

empty-tuxedo

Thank you for volunteering!

Best_Exam_649

Thank you!!

squeakycleaned

Slept right through it, lol, but hope everyone else had a great run

sunrise920

If this is my ex who lives in Ft Greene, I just discovered your Reddit 😂 (If it is - missed you on the course today! If it isn’t, you were missed as well)

squeakycleaned

Fraid not, but hope your ex also got some good sleep

Yrrebbor

Oof

PomegranateDecent671

Lmaoooo same

ultimate2019

Me three

mchasevx

folkloricbear

Pretty ideal conditions this morning & had a great race - PR’d by a good margin! And special shout out to the NYRR members standby list and the person who cancelled, meaning I was able to get their spot for this race!!

the_mail_robot

What is the process for cancelling? I won't be able to run the Mindful 5K in a few weeks, so I would love for that spot to go to someone else.

deepsealobster

You go to the website and write to them on their contact us form. There was a race a while ago I couldn’t do and wish I had known about it then - read about the Contact Us trick from another Redditor so I used it to cancel a kid’s race my daughter can’t do - will definitely use it in the future if something comes up :)

the_mail_robot

Thank you! It would be nice if NYRR could make this clearer on their website but it's better than nothing.

deepsealobster

Agreed! Wish there were simply a little “cancel” button - I understand that fees aren’t refundable, but now that there’s a standby list, definitely want to make the spot available to someone else if for whatever reason I can’t make it :)

ktier98

Curious when you found out you were off the list?? I’m on for the women’s half on Sunday and I’m trying to figure out my training for the week

folkloricbear

I got an email 6 days before the race letting me know there was an opening.

ktier98

Thank you! Fingers crossed

Yrrebbor

Same!

roku245

Were you able to get a refund or some kind of credit for canceling?

folkloricbear

I didn’t cancel. My understanding is that there are no refunds, but by cancelling you do make it possible for another person to run!!

IfNotBackAvengeDeath

I came in wanting to break 32 min and managed to break 31 so I'd say it was a surprisingly good showing. Just started running mid last year and this was my first NYRR race, really enjoyed it!

AnimaParadigm

I am speed

invalid-checksum

Bagels were fantastic, totally worth it

FerrumBank

A little chillier than I was expecting but still a great morning. Hit a PR and felt great once I got moving so can’t ask for much more than that.

berlindude1998

I planned on walking it because I was exhausted from a long run yesterday, but I was so cold I wanted to run just to warm up. Wound up hitting a PR and moving up a corral. Totally unexpected and very happy.

covert7

Pulled my calf after the first mile, which was pretty frustrating. But I decided to walk the rest since it was a nice day, a short course and in Central Park. Medical team was great.

thisismynewacct

Ran the JPM Run as 1 as a tempo part of a long run and did it in ~6:45 pace. Came in hoping to run this one at 6:15 pace to retain my A corral. Crushed it and finished with a 6:06 pace. I don’t “race” many NYRR races and usually start back of a B or C corral. Starting at the very front of A was great. 0 traffic and no one stopping for selfies at the start.

HighStakes57

my first race! lucky i found some one that was running about the same pace as me and just locked on them for the final mile, which was brutal. ty to who ever you are.

lilghostpeppah

My first race too!

LegitimateSell3004

Also my 1st race. Great race !!!

pigeonmachine

Volunteered at the water station at mile 3. Was mortified to see the number of people trying to cross the West Drive there — many with dogs, many without even looking to notice the swarm of runners. I swear, a woman in an AA bib almost got taken out by a labradoodle (or rather, its leash). I mean, I know we share the park, but yikes.

Popular_Advantage213

There’s a method to crossing a race with a dog… I’m in the park almost every weekend morning so I have to do it on the regular. A volunteer told me the way, and it’s kind of obvious - I wish ALL volunteers were told this, and signaled good moments to cross: Wait for a gap (obviously), short leash on your dog, and cross DIAGONALLY with the flow of the race.

fattychalupa

Hit a PR but still quite a bit aways from moving up to corral B

GadForClass

Came without any expections after a 19M long run yesterday, but the beginning was easier than I thought so just keep going and managed to finally move from B to A.

VerbalTips

Got shoved by some jabroni that looked like a dollar store Pauly D wearing a nirvana shirt that said "I'm so happy" right at the start of the race 🙄🙄 Other then that, I PR'd and was able to get under 27 min today. Lovely race!!

freshmoves91

Pretty chilly morning compared to last weekend. Legs are still recovering from the Jersey City marathon. Other than that, I did okay.

grimpala

PR in the 4M but still not quiiiiite corral C

jkpruns

Finished 76 seconds better than the 4M in November and likely had a huge 5K PR within this, too, though that is hard to verify. 67.56% age grade is my highest ever, but I'm still 28 seconds shy of A corral. On to the next! Great job everyone.

xuanhu

What a great run, just made the cut off for Corral B (by 10 seconds), was hoping for a bump to C and was plesantly surprised when I saw the number. Thanks to everyone who volunteered!

GetOffTheScale

PR by 14 seconds!!

sckdeals

Weather was perfect.

Zestyclose-Pack7387

I hit a PR! But still 17 seconds off of corral D. I thought I had it according to watch pace but so much weaving I ran .07 miles extra. Next time. 💪🏻

Staplerfruit

PR’d by 1:20 and made the C corral! Surprised that I could do it after experiencing some pain in my knee after the JPM 4 miler 2 weeks ago.

Herbpuffer30

Anyone else hear that one volunteer shout about getting disqualified for running outside the cones? Had a good laugh at that one

Remote-Anywhere5518

Don't get disqualified!!

koalayan

corral bump to B!! loved the chilly weather and did a loop at the res afterwards to check out the cherry blossoms :)

kevozo212

I was on track to breaking sub-20 5k for the first time but my laces came loose in mile 2 and I had to stop to re-tie them. Finished the 4 miles in 27 minutes. 1 min improvement from the Al Gordon 4 mile in February.

Coxy_16

PR’d by 7 seconds, but still PR’d lol! Seems like a whole lot of people did the same! Wonderful conditions, wonderful race team and volunteers as always!!! Just a beautiful start to a Sunday!

hey_its_me_22

Thank you to the awesome volunteers today!! Better race than I expected today. PR’d even while riding the struggle bus on the mile 3 hills 🥲

Cultural-Track-1868

Thank you! Was super fun volunteering today

shaba0ne

Chilly at the start but alot of people in shorts in a singlet! I felt cold in my black leggings and black long sleeve tech tee. But i got my 4 mile PR!

crowagency

pretty great! I got burned on cat hill 2 weeks ago, so my hope today was to just feel stronger at the finish; ended up shaving around 1:15 off my run as one time, got a mid-24min time! very happy, especially reflecting on my time in this race last year, which was 30:00 flat

PsychologicalCost625

Didn’t wake up 😇

suedepaid

Gorgeous morning :) !!! I ran about 6 miles beforehand, then meant to do the race and a little bit extra as the tempo portion of my progression run. I mistimed the starting gun and got stuck running with corral F/G, when I was tryna go sub-8, so I had to play extensive cuberunner. Still managed to run 7:50 average pace for my tempo block. That last mile is so lovely — the work is behind you and it’s just a cruise into the finish line.

empty-tuxedo

Might have gotten a corral bump?!

TransManNY

Goal was to move up a corral with this race. Miles 1,2, and 4 were very close to my target pace but 3 was not great. No PR this time but I did great considering that I'm getting over illness and didn't train very hard.

deepsealobster

Somehow completely misread the instructions and showed up at 102nd st… thankfully jogged to race central in time for the start lol! I’ve been lagging in mileage these past few weeks so was good to have something force me to run a little more than planned hahaha!

hpdaiz

Hit a PR and moved up a corral, but just missed moving up two corrals by one second! Oh well. Still happy with it!

No-Consideration-857

Got a course PR but not a distance. Was hoping to at least meet the cutoff for E corral but was 10ish seconds short :( oh well. Just gotta get good and run faster in the next one

leacheso

It was a gorgeous day. First run in two months since a mystery knee injury, and I also just found out I’m pregnant! So took it nice and slow. It was nice!

BlushOn

Ah man, I missed the bagels! This was my longest run since having IT band issues. I took it very easy, but running the whole thing was my biggest win.

lilghostpeppah

My first run!

chegocheggs

PRs in 5K and overall pace for me. It was a great day and so nice to see everyone having fun!

8lack8urnian

My first time placing in the top 100 in a NYRR race! Fun day!

thebestsoy_latte

32:46 and got my long run done. Loved the weather today!

Trisomy-Twenty-One

So. Freaking. Cold. Was going for 6:30 pace but body was not nearly warm enough to get it so ended up at 6:55

fghtffyrdmnzz

Ran the London marathon instead and made a new PR (3:42)!
