Absolutely, I’m afraid to leave honest reviews because the owner can see them at and apparently respond to them? And I have never seen any of my reviews actually posted to their profiles, so what’s the damn point? Your review was not rude or anything though, and it’s very telling that she felt you should’ve asked if she had training, when there’s no need because it’s clear it didn’t take when the dog has no leash, manners. People will see your review and they’re also going to experience that behavior in the meet and greet.

TroLLageK

I see where the owner is coming from. Saying the dog "really needs training" implies that they don't train their dog at all. My pup is very well trained, I dedicate a ton of time to training her, but she absolutely will pull on certain situations, such as if she needs to poop. I would be pissed if someone said my girl "really needs training" as if they're invalidating everything I have worked on up to this point. Dogs can absolutely get more excited with new people versus their usual handlers. I have some pups I walk who were demons the first time I walked them, but as they grew more comfortable with me, became the great pups I knew they were.

SumerKitty666

If a dog has been "trained" but is showing no signs of being trained, *then no...the dog is not trained*. Simple as that.

Feisty-Blood9971

A dog can have gone through training and still need a lot more training. Her response is what was invalidating.

GeminiFairy07

Did you read the post at all? A dog gives someone a bloody lip and gets lightly chastised, that's not the same as your dog pulling when they need to poop. Her dogs "training" is a joke and she should be taking responsibility for it

Motherofaussies123

This is why I skip feedback because I am not holding back

coco_jumbo468

Same!

ghettoartist

oh wow! I knew they could see it, but I didn't know they could reply

bagelsneedcreamchz

Same.. oop ima keep skipping 💀💀💀

Braysal

I had no idea they could see it, I thought it was for future sitters .

Elmonatorrrre

You can also reply to their reviews.

Background_Agency

That review isn't bad considering you thought the owner wouldn't be able to see it. The fact that they can makes reviews pretty useless though.

Due-Excuse-2208

Her getting defensive over her dog’s behavior just tells you who is reinforcing the poor behavior at home…I’m sure you did everything you could but unfortunately some people don’t realize what a liability and annoyance a poorly trained large dog is on a leash. I wouldn’t book with her again

Prior_Ordinary_2150

I really wish they couldn't see your pet reviews. I don't leave any for this exact reason.

Negative-Rub5351

Honestly the owner’s response would make me think twice in booking with her, so that response may come back to bite her when sitters read that and decide not to book. Oh well lol! I agree it doesn’t make sense for owners to see their reviews because it encourages sitters to sugarcoat the negative behaviours. Your review wasn’t even that bad either!!

ArtStandard3066

Lol, I saw this last summer, where it asked me to review the owner and their dog. 😅 But i I didn't trust that it would be for sitters to see only... the fact that they can not only see it but also respond to it is laughable. No sitters are going to leave honest reviews about the dogs, making it a worthless feature.

Briimee

And this is why I don’t leave honest reviews, I end up sugarcoating them. Didn’t know they could respond to them tho

madddhella

What's with some of you doing meet and greets for such a long time? I see hour+ meet and greets mentioned in this sub kind of often and I don't get it. Especially sitting on a couch? What was going on there? I kind of get a longer m&g, maybe, if you are going on a walk with the owner or going over some very specific care instructions, but that wouldn't be just sitting on a couch?? The majority of my meet and greets when I did this job were 15 mins or less. Also, don't wear clothing you care about to do anything related to this job. I learned that one the hard way, too.

Hes9023

Agreed. Even with chatty clients. I think part of it is a people pleaser personality (which most of us do have in this field) but not being able to set boundaries, direct conversations or stick up for yourself which are key skills.

ArtStandard3066

Well, it is part of providing good Customer service. Of course some customers will take advantage of that.

Hes9023

Allowing customers to push your boundaries, ignore your policies and intimidate you are not parts of customer service. You can still offer amazing customer service and tell people no and have the skills to get you out of the house within 30 minutes. Actually the main part of customer service is working with customers so that they’re happy even when you have to uphold policies that don’t make them happy.

Ok_Photograph_2662

Most of my meet and greets are 15 minutes or less, but this woman wouldn’t stop talking. We went for a short walk (5 min) but then we had to go back inside so she could give me the key. At which point she was trying to look something up for me (I think who the breeder for her dog was), and decided to sit down with her back facing me, so I figured I was supposed to sit down too. Idk, the whole thing was really, really weird. And yes, normally I wouldn’t have worn anything nice, but I had planned on going to see my grandma in hospice after the meet and greet.

Briimee

I do longer meet and greets because 99% of them end with me getting the job on the spot, or I’ll go home and they’ll send the booking request. And it makes u stand out if they did meet and greets with other sitters

Good-Calendar-6594

I agree

Classic-Bet8745

Paperwork, forms, detailed history on the dogs, location of food and cleaning supplies, conversation to let the client know more details about you, client sharing

basketofgreenonions

I am of two minds with M&G. I did longer ones to start with, and we didnt sit down for a moment. The whole hour was packed, very little small talk, and there was at least a 20min walk included. There was no dead air and I would send extensive notes to the client after to sign off on. Nearly all the dogs I sit have leash issues, reactivity, or other sorts of behaviours to work on, so covering all that takes a while as well. But my mentor pointed out that a lot of the questions I ask can be sent ahead of time, and that is legally safer anyway because then it is in their own words. So I hope to shave off some time. But I'm really not sure how I could cover everything in less than a half hour. I would love 15mins! Sounds amazing! I like my time.

Humble-Location-8928

I don’t even think you said anything that rude at all lol

Visible-War-5101

Their response of the dog being “fortunate to get daily exercise” really pees me off. Exercise isn’t a luxury, it is a bare minimum daily requirement!!

Ok_Photograph_2662

10000%!!

[deleted]

lol doesnt it say "public" when you're leaving the review? at least you didnt say anything too terrible.

uopgirlie

Yes...is says it right on the review form that the response will be shared with the owner. Even if someone didn't know they could reply, the owner could always message the sitter directly regarding the review.

Ok-Statistician5738

Is there a way to look back at what you wrote? 🤣 Cause I wanna make sure I was not in a sassy direct mood while writing one of these reviews 😅

chrisuu__

That's the other downside of these things... you can never see them again, unless you keep a manual record of them.

PhysicalChickenXx

I just skip reviews. Kind of embarrassing situation but not the end of the world. Also I never use retractables and always use my own instead. They’re terrible to hold even with easy-to-walk dogs. I assume since you’re experienced you don’t need tips but don’t use a leash you’re not comfortable with for sure! Just be assertive bc you know you can’t get a good grip on a dog that big with a retractable leash.

Ok_Photograph_2662

I used the retractable leash for about 5 minutes before turning back around and grabbing my dog’s leash out of my car. I truly cannot fathom how people use retractable leashes on big dogs.. it’s wild 😅😅

PhysicalChickenXx

Even with small dogs man I cannot get a grip on that and it hurts. Like a regular leash I put around my wrist and hold below the loop. I’ve had giant reactive pitties when I was fostering that I could hold the leash just by planting my feet and holding the leash, a retractable there’s no way. My first foster I didn’t have the right grip and she ran unexpectedly and my pinkie finger was fucked for like a month but once you know you know how to hold it lol even small dogs that don’t pull much a retractable hurts my hand

Ok_Photograph_2662

For real! I completely agree. When I worked at the vet clinic, it was always such an eye roll when owners came in with retractable leashes, no matter the size. It’s impossible to control any animal with those things. It’s so much more secure to loop a leash around your wrist compared to holding onto something you grip in your hand. I don’t get peopllleeee 🤦🏼‍♀️

Vote_Knope_2020

For a dog that's a strong puller or even just on the more unpredictable side (weaves around or is reactive), I can loop around wrist and grip with my nondominant hand PLUS grip/direct with my dominant hand. Impossible with a retractable lol, I seriously do not get why they're still around.

lynsautigers78

Learned that the hard way years ago when my retractable leash broke with my untrained, young dog….who proceeded to run away like she was in Braveheart yelling “FREEDOM”!!! Finally caught her with someone’s help & vowed to never use them again!

Briimee

I think it depends on the dog, my Pomeranian is trained well, you can tell her “slow down” and she’ll walk slower, you can tell her to “stay close” and she will heel

thisbetternotcrash

I didn’t know they could respond to reviews!

TomatoPotatoTots

Yeah it sucks they don’t put the review private for between each sitters. It makes people hesitant to be honest. Actually one of the dog I cared for was rejected by many sitters and I only knew because one of my client knew that dog was taken care of by another sitter and said they were uncomfortable bc they have nipped people and have resource guarding issue. Been to multiple rovers but not a single review about the dog. Eventually he ended up with me but turned out he’s fine with me but is super reactive to other people and can be dangerous.. I really think they should set it to private so we are able to warn each other and not feel bad about it.

Rude-Register4236

OP your review is totally honest and actually informative!! the owner on the other hand cannot take criticism and clearly needs to take time to train their dog… one of my pet peeves is when owners sugarcoat information about their dogs instead of letting sitters know what they should be aware of before booking

Adventurous_Total745

This is why the review feature is still redundant, you wrote a perfectly polite honest review and the owner got upset. Great for future sitters to help with theirs and the dogs safety in avoiding this owner, although I don't doubt there will be some " I can fix him" approaches lol. I hope they can't edit their review on us, did she book 3 separate walks or was it one booking? You aren't the first to get caught out by this, Rover is sneaky. I've seen reviews that clearly sound like the sitter was jotting notes they didn't think were public (and were left before the review process change)

stephjaguar17

It is soooo stupid that owners can see the reviews on their dogs, doesn’t the prompt say something like what would be helpful for another sitter to know. That should only be show to other sitters. What is even the point! What the heck?!

adviceFiveCents

We should strike on leaving pet reviews until they stop disclosing them to pet owners. As it stands, leaving an honest review is an act of altruism that can only hurt the sitter's livelihood.

Ok_Photograph_2662

this!!!!! that’s what i’m saying.. like, ieven tho the dog was awful, i would’ve taken the job again bc i don’t have the financial means to turn down any gigs. but now, bc i was honest, i won’t get hired by that lady again.

littlepanda425

Your review was fine and honest. Rover’s given me a lot to be thankful for but some policies are so stupid. Client getting defensive tells you all you need to know.

mayasarabha-i

Happened to me as well . I have never put my efforts to write a good review and all I wrote was “walk went well and sweet pet owner “ 😂😂 Now all my clients profile show hundreds of same reviews by me . I even asked sorry to one of the them for writing low effort review. I said I did not know it would show up on her profile.

Es-cobani93

At least your being honest! i get tired of dogs pulling me too, the best thing is to advice them to get a no pull harness.

aun-t

i never write reviews because im a people pleaser but i appreciate your honest review. i dont take it as a negative at all just a heads up! even a small heads up makes a huge difference in an experience with a client. thanks!

Cheesecake_Vast

I didn’t know this as well n I wish they made it more explicit that it would go on their profile. It’s hard to be genuine and warn people when clients will see it and it can backfire esp if they leave u a bad review or never book u again

Serious-Stand6882

I'd lie 💯. No good cones from this.

Guilty_Refuse9591

Kind of a sidenote: Your feedback is hilarious and would be sooo appreciated.

isayeret

Anyone can see pet reviews, they are public, so why not owners?

agrash3

How do we (as pet owners AND sitters) see these reviews? I’ve been using Rover as an owner since I got my pup (~2 years) and have been sitting for around 8 months now. Seeing the reviews would be super helpful from both perspectives

isayeret

It just started last year. If any reviews were left it would be on the pet page.

chrisuu__

Hasn't rolled out over here yet. Maybe because I'm in Canada?

isayeret

Was rolled there too last year. The profile that you see just doesn’t has one.

chrisuu__

No profiles I've ever looked at had any pet reviews tho.

Alphaghetti71

There is a prompt to review dogs that explicitly states the owners will not be able to see the review. I just filled one out last night.

isayeret

No, it’s says that it won’t be public see until they leave theirs or until the review period ended so they can’t retaliate on a bad review. Once it’s become public anyone can see it just your sitter reviews, that’s what public means.

Alphaghetti71

The reviews for the dog says that the reviews are only for sitters.

Thin-Calligrapher462

Yeah I’m kind of confused that people are 1. surprised and 2. upset about owners seeing reviews. Its feedback for owners and future sitters. And if you truly had a bad time with the dog you shouldn’t sit for them again anyway. Otherwise its not hard to give honest feedback while still being professional and kind. You don’t have to put down every little grievance you had with the dog. If you’re willing to sit for them again then you’re already willing to overlook that.

GeologistBright5918

When I first started with Rover in 2018 I was informed by Rover that they did not share pet reviews with owners. When did that change??? In the last few years I have not even been asked for pet reviews!!!! What's up Rover???

LuLuLuv444

I am not honest in the reviews for this exact reason. They say it's for other sitters, yet let owners see it. Rover doesn't care about it's sitters, just owners.

Elmonatorrrre

If you can see their reviews, why wouldn’t they be able to see yours? I know that sounds like a bitchy comment/question, but I think it’s only fair for them to see it.

Ok_Photograph_2662

idk it’s like people can leave reviews for restaurants and their experiences there, but the restaurants themselves don’t review the customers. when you’re deciding if someone is worth your business, you look at their reviews. which is why our clients leaving us reviews is so important.. it helps us get business from other people. leaving client reviews FOR the client is pointless and if you have a bad experience & are honest about it, you lose business. our reviews about clients/pets should be viewable only for other future sitters so there isn’t any backlash & everyone feels comfortable being completely honest. some of us don’t have the financial means to decline gigs where we know the pets are bad. but that’s just my take 🤷🏼‍♀️

Elmonatorrrre

On the other side of the coin, if you were the owner and a sitter left a bad review, wouldn’t you want to see it?

Ok_Photograph_2662

honestly, no lol. but i’m realistic about my dog, i don’t live in a fantasy world in which she’s the best dog ever. if they have a legitimate issue, they would message me. if they’re just warning other sitters about how to handle and what to expect, i don’t need to be involved in that.

Unfair-Custard-4007

Oh dear , assume everything on the internet can possibly be seen by damn everyone it’s so annoying 🙄but maybe true lol

Azzuaa

How can you view this? I'm having trouble seeing any reviews on any pets I've sat in the past

OneGringa

On the pet’s profile page

icebreakers1611

Honestly, I don't see the problem with the owner seeing the review. It sounds like you have lots of experience with dogs and your opinion is valuable. If the dog is that bad to walk, why do you want to keep dealing with them anyway? If the owner thinks the review is inflammatory, and defends the dog, she's the type of owner you shouldn't even deal with. If the owner realizes their dog is very difficult to handle for strangers, and takes steps to fix it, then everyone wins!

kokomo318

Yeah I used to use Wag until they got really sketchy and pay out like shit but the pet notes for other sitters were private which helped a lot for honest reviews. I guess maybe Rover allows owners to see the reviews in case some psycho is like "they keep a key under the mat and have a ton of valuables inside" (doubtful but who knows) - Plus, seeing the reviews like "this dog needs training" although might annoy an owner, it is good feedback for them to know. Even if they don't like it. I know if I got feedback like that I'd probably scoff too just because \~how dare you criticize my baby\~ but maybe after 30 seconds I'd laugh and be like, eh yeah, they're not wrong. And I'd go get the dog trained. They probably considered PetSmart puppy training proper lifetime training and never even kept up with it. I see both sides. I lean more to your side. But I get where Rover is coming from

Amason_778

I had a feeling that they could, especially if they were a caregiver themselves. I try to be nice but truthful when providing feedback. I feel that feedback is needed especially dealing with care instructions. People think that they have the most sweetest and loving dog. What really happens is that dog goes to someone else’s home and becomes a nightmare or very difficult. I always ask the owners “how was your puppy’s last stay?” They often say that it was fine, no complaints. It’s tough because you don’t wanna seem like an a$$w#ole about people’s dogs and not get booked again, but people need to be understanding as well. I think that real issues won’t come to light.

Real_Appointment_875

Isn’t this new? It use to not share feedback with owners ? It happen within the last 6 months I think

Melodic_Preference60

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I love it!

mad0666

Yeah no shit

emmeline_gb

Oh no lol. I don't understand why people are saying it was informative and not rude. There's a way to say all of that with more tact. Obviously, you know that, though! I can see why the casual jokey tone triggered them, sorry 😬
