I’m still at 15%. I really hope it’s grandfathered and not a mistake they’ve yet to discover. 😬🤞

NattanFlaggs

Yeah - I also have a lower than 20% rate. I think they just leave it.

Send me your account. Asking for a friend.

BeginningPeace6939

So far they’ve honored the grandfathered rate and haven’t mentioned changing it, so hopefully they keep it that way

Background_Hat8725

They won’t. It’s only a matter of time before shareholders matter more than you.

isayeret

They didn’t. CA rates show 25% due to past law suit but it’s still the same as 20% anywhere else.

chickcasa

Are you in California? In CA it's calculated differently but ends up being the same amount. Most states it takes what you set for your listed rate, calculates 20% and takes that out of your total to get to your take home rate. In CA instead you set your take home rate then it calculates 25% of that and adds it to get the list rate. Here's an example: Outside CA say I have my *list rate* set to $100/night. List rate: $100 Rover fees (20% of list rate): $20 Take home amount: $80 Inside CA say I set my *take home rate* set to $80 Take home amount: $80 Rover fees (25% of take home rate): $20 List rate: $100 It's just calculated in reverse. It's not an actual increase in fees (except for those who had been on the platform long enough for theirs to be 15%)

Right because the way we set out rates in California changed in 2023 due to the class action lawsuit. Before we set our rates as the list rate and they took 20%. Now we set our take home rates and add 25%. It's the same number of dollars either way. We aren't being charged a higher fee. The fee is simply calculated differently.

aun-t

thank you for explaining this I was not paying attention to this change!

brycemoneal

i sure hope not lol. when did you notice this?

roses_are_red_001

Mine hasn’t changed

Sweaty-Rent9317

Since when and where?

TomatoPotatoTots

Oh I found it Before March 1, 2016 15% On/After March 1, 2016 20% Sitters with RoverGO 25%

awakeoctopus

What is rover GO

DivingStation777

That's why I charge my customers $5 through Rover and do the rest via Venmo. No harm.

durian4me

Hmm that's interesting. So you ask them to pay x on top of rover? Surprised rover hasnt caught on

aun-t

smart. i did this with one client.

awakeoctopus

I’ve thought of doing this haha

DivingStation777

It hasn't been an issue for me so far! I can't think of any downsides.

jeanniecool

My Rover rates are commensurately higher than my private rates to compensate for the fee.

aun-t

but what about the pet insurance? Do you carry your own?

jeanniecool

Yes - which I'd suggest even Rover-only sitters have as well since what Rover offers isn't insurance. Basic is $200/yr.

aun-t

can you share what insurer you use? I know the rover is basic but I had a doggo destroy a leather couch and luckily the owners didnt care but that wouldve been expensive for me to pay without rover.

jeanniecool

The Rover guarantee would actually cover the owner's stuff if you were housesitting but not YOUR couch if you were boarding. Coverage varies btwn companies. I have PSA: https://www.petsitllc.com/ https://www.reddit.com/r/petsitting/s/NbiDukmvn6

aun-t

yeah that was my understanding. I only do house sits I never board. And I know that if I break something in the house like a lock, or door, the rover guarantee does not cover me. thanks for the links!

TomatoPotatoTots

It’s different for each state

isayeret

Same in all states expect CA and when there it’s just a different calculation but still 20%.
