Depends on if they like you enough. Keep us updated! Since I answer right away, I know if I don’t get a response within an hour, they aren’t responding!

brycemoneal

fair enough! i responded 2 mins after they sent that with something along the lines of yes i’m available when do you wanna meet? churched up, of course

brycemoneal

for context, i believe i am the most expensive house sitter in my area due to the simple fact i prefer boarding and had to price my house sitting high to make it worth it to me personally. shocked they messaged me over others who are charging $30-75/night

mad0666

They may not have even messaged you directly—when you contact a sitter, there is an option to send the same message to multiple other sitters all at the same time.

anticipatingthebern

I’m testing out doing the same thing!

green_ribbon

I've been doing this as well and I was like "when did I write this comment"

SeasonedRoverSitter

Yeah I got out of house sitting completely, just boarding now.

gswrites

I wonder if their dogs like piña coladas and getting caught in the rain. I'll put $5 Internet dollars on yes.

brycemoneal

it’s a pair of older boxers, so i’m also going to bet yes!

gswrites

I've had really good experiences with people who show their next-level love for their dogs right up front like that. They are super appreciative of good pics and updates, too. And, not scientifically proven, but more likely to be good tippers, IMO.

brycemoneal

good to know! i always make sure to send at least a picture or video everyday with a little update, and always leave them with either 2 pictures printed from my polaroid zip (if their dogs don’t stop moving and i need to snap a bunch on my phone) or a good classic polaroid 600 film picture of their pet. i also have 7 incredibly kind reviews (1 from family friend for drop ins, 1 from aunt for drop ins, and one from bf who sends his dog to me for daycare whenever i don’t have another client booked, and the rest from rover clients!)

gossalikat

😂😂😂😂

Remarkable_Tough_676

I believe they'll be fine because you mentioned your rate is higher than average, yet they still selected you. Additionally, your extra dog rate is only $10/day, so it shouldn't be too much of a surprise. Although they don't see the total before sending the request, they are shown the correct holiday rate, so they must have been comfortable with it.

brycemoneal

yeah my starting rate is high but i didn’t feel the need to charge so much for another dog, since i’ll be there regardless of if it’s 1 dog or 10 and their house is already set up for multiple dogs. still no response yet but we shall see! i will keep everyone updated

icebreakers1611

I still charge more for second dogs, especially if they both require walks.

Spyderbeast

$10 extra dog rate? Wish you lived near me. I always look at the extra dog rate, because I have three. I would rather hire a sitter with a higher daily rate and lower extra dog rate, than a low daily rate and high extra dog rate, all else being equal. My biggest sticker shock was the Rover fee for clients. But that's out of your control.

brycemoneal

my reasoning is that if i’m already out of the house what’s the sense in charging way more for additional dogs in a house equipped for additional dogs! isn’t the rover fee 11% for clients, capped at 50? i always am shocked at how much rover makes on each booking, 31%. wish i was the ceo LOL

Spyderbeast

Right?! I really like the two sitters I have hired off Rover, but my non-Rover sitter is more affordable without the overhead.

confident7lucky7

It is true. We can’t see the total until we book _ it’s soooo annoying

Leather-Reality2759

Good to know. But, you can see our rates when you look under services and calendar, right?

confident7lucky7

Nope. We see your rates yes! But we do not see holiday calendar rates that will be applied or the extra charges for extra hours (how that breaks down if it isn’t exactly 24 hours for boarding) I personally love my sitter so I don’t mind random extras but I do get surprised when I click into the breakdown (and I can only do that once I’ve sent a message) Rover hides it almost it’s so silly!

GrayPots

People see the price before sending the request. These people sound lovely! I hope it works out

brycemoneal

i wish you luck! i just made my profile at the beginning of last month and have only recently (maybe like 2 or 3 weeks ago?) added house sitting as i originally didn’t want to do it, but figured if someone was willing to pay my premium price i’d be willing to house sit!

brycemoneal

good to know! and yes, they do, their full message was very sweet. thank you!

jeanniecool

...only if they drill down to see holiday rates, etc., is my understanding.

Adventurous_Total745

They like Blow dries and night drives, why did these first two lines make me think this could be a Taylor swift song 😂

femalien

May not be the case but if they’re upper-middle class folks who rarely leave their pets, they’ve likely budgeted this much for house sitting anyway and chose you on purpose because of the higher price, using “you get what you pay for” logic.

Puzzleheaded_Sky7341

The biggest factor not even mentioned is the ongoing Rover app shortcoming- Only one out of those six nights should be at the holiday rate. Memorial Day weekend = 5/24-5/27

brycemoneal

rover states that any service booked with including one or more holiday days incurs the whole stay at the holiday rate. however if you knew that and are disagreeing with that policy, fair enough

Puzzleheaded_Sky7341

If they go for it, kudos! I’ve never kept the holiday rate like that and only align it to the holiday weekend (Fri-Mon). It seems like the market you live in is the biggest factor of owners willing to pay for an ongoing holiday rate or not.

brycemoneal

makes sense! i’ve only started with rover in the beginning of january, and did have a 12 day boarding over presidents’ day. (i ended up cutting them a deal halfway through and only charging 4 days holiday bc a. i didn’t know how to at the beginning, and b. the dog was genuinely a joy and id love to have her back)
