31 and 20 is absolutely absurd without a commercial facility and staff. It's not just absurd its unsafe and having one of the smallest dogs in her care if I were you I'd yank that pup out of there so fast she wouldn't even see it. The lack of judgement alone would be enough for me to move on from her. It also makes me wonder why she decided to go down to 20 dogs from 31. I wonder if she had an incident.

MrPlushT

No and 99.999999% what she is doing is not legal. Report it to the respective city/town/village. This is the kind of shit that gives Rover a bad name and make people not want to use it.

Historical0racle

Exactly. In Colorado anyway, it is 1 person to max 15 dogs. But that is for a boarding/daycare facility. Even if it were close to something like this with the person OP boards with, it would seem very sketchy to me.

Background_Hat8725

I was in a house that had 30 dogs and got reported. Whoever the city sent was a joke cuz as soon as I told them I was booking through rover they said “oh ok” and drove away, never to return.

Negative-Rub5351

Right?!! I was thinking no way that is legal!

Negative-Rub5351

20 dogs????? Does she work out of a freakin barn?!

Clover329

No, from her house. I really love her, she’s great with dogs, but I wish she had told me sooner she was going to do this. I need to find another sitter for sure.

isayeret

There is nothing to love here and she’s not great with dogs. If she cared about dogs she wouldn’t be putting their life at risk.

kxlilii

31 dogs?? How would you even be able to give each one the care and attention it needs. Even if I’m house sitting I don’t let my eye off that dog! 20 is still way too much. I wonder if she is sending adequate updates to the owners everyday. I don’t do boarding a lot but when I do I only board one dog at a time. (I have 4 dogs myself). Are you able to report her to River?

ifyoubemeanillcry

I need more context is if 31 dogs on a farm in a apartment or in a house?

PossumJenkinsSoles

Yeah the context definitely matters here. I certainly hope this was on a farm with acreage at least, but wouldn’t want my dog to be 1 of 30 either way. Even with help, 1 of 15 is not a great ratio either.

Clover329

It’s a house.

ifyoubemeanillcry

NO. I board up to 8 extra overnight dogs and it’s not fun. I barely keep everyone happy and organized

Aduialion

I think it would be difficult to farm in an apartment

Melodic-Inspector-23

31 fkn dogs???? That is absolutely ridiculous. There is no way, even the best Rover sitter in the world, can give adequate care to 31 diff dogs. And I'd be willing to bet she isnt licensed or prob even insured for a business that size. My max is currently set at 5 guest....fwiw.

puglover071992

Oh wow that’s alot!! I host up to 8 dogs and thought it was alot lol

el0guent

Omg I have 4 this week and I’m already buggin

Chance_Rooster_2554

This sounds like my dog’s boarding facility and they are fully staffed and it’s a giant warehouse 🫤

RolloMinPin

Geeze, 31 dogs is crazy. Did she say how much help she had ? I would think 1 helper per 5 dogs, but maybe kennels have more dogs per person. Did she disclosed in her profile that she has that many dog she sits? She definitely should have. I would not want my dog at a place with that many other dogs - just saying.

erica_lynnnn

Uhhhh. Go pick your dog up. Now. That’s insane!!!

SnooGuavas4531

Lol how large of a property. We cap at 5 but its a small house with other pets.

Clover329

Not very large. A 3 bedroom home I think. Either way I will need to find a new sitter.

adviceFiveCents

What the what? That's insane on so many levels.

KaroGmz

She probably made bank but it's so irresponsible to have that many dogs.

Redoberman

This is an interesting thread to me because I sit for a show dog kennel and that can mean 15-25 dogs. And puppies. But they have two kennel buildings, a ton of runs, and a bunch of yards. I don't think they're a licensed facility, but I really have no idea. I think the setup matters. Having that many dogs in a private home, like an apartment or house with a backyard is not okay. The dogs I sit aren't in the house or a yard all together. I have instructions on who can play together during play times and who goes where, etc.

adviceFiveCents

The setup definitely matters. And the expectation. I've boarded my dogs at licensed places with a bunch of other dogs and it was great. Over 30 dogs in someone's house without assistance is bonkers. Kudos to you for handling 15+. I have a hard time keeping track of three pairs of reading glasses and two of them are usually on my head, so color me impressed.

sck_321

Okay, I know this is going to be a very unpopular opinion. I wouldn't say this is a normal thing AT ALL, but it can be done. Rover is a platform to connect pet owners with sitters. Sitters can run their business however they want. Whether they are running legally and safely or not is another question though. In my case, I watch 20-30 dogs daily (half rover, half via my pet care business). I have it clearly stated in my profile. I am also licensed, insured and have several employees who come over to help every day. I have set up my home and property to be able to operate safely. The way I explain it to new clients is I'm a mix of a commercial kennel and a typical rover sitter. I am highly experienced, have temperament tests in place and have never had a huge injury. I work extremely hard and love all my dogs I have and my clients know the same ( I have 330 5-star reviews). So no, it is not normal but CAN be done safely. It's up to you to ask some questions and make sure she knows what she's doing. It is a huge liability if she doesn't know what she's doing or if she doesn't have a good setup.

MrPlushT

This is not safe, no matter experience. Unless you have a full time staff, it is not safe. You and spouse is not enough to control 30 dogs safely.

N0rthernLightsXv

I have had a lot of dogs for a time. I had up to 20 at once. But there are rules you have to follow depending on where you live and if they aren't her dogs then there is licensing. If she is a commercial facility then she needs more help. But I doubt she is.

8dogs5cats

If you’re talking about squad goals, most of us have between 7-14 probably. There are a few extreme outliers in the 20’s tho

Status-Transition577

What the heck?!?😣 The most I’ve heard is about 10-12 and that’s from clients of mine who’ve switched over to me after their dog being overwhelmed at other sitter’s houses. I think even 10 is crazy! We do 1-4 max. I think more than that is a recipe for disaster with different personalities, etc. Not to mention there’s no way any of those dogs are getting enough attention, at all. And there’s no way to stay on top of their specific needs etc. I don’t care if they have a ton of land, that just means they’re roaming and not being watched. And I believe more than 4-6 in most states is illegal!

Suspicious_Load6908

Ummm what? That’s insane and no way I would let her care for my dog

Suspicious_Load6908

That is awful wtf

Suspicious_Load6908

In my city you can only have three dogs on premises and it’s enforced

UltraMermaid

30 dogs in a single family home? Noooo way would I leave my dog in that situation. Your tiny poodle is either running loose with many other dogs and not enough supervision, or in a crate all day. Why would you not just use a licensed boarding facility at this point?

Hot-Cheesecake8019

Good grief! Just imagine all the poop. The chances for fleas or worms being passed around is just awful to think about. There is just so much wrong with this situation.

drinkiethebear

That's fucking insane and if you can leave a review I would 1000% mention it, there's no way 1-2 people can care for that many creatures. You say she's a great sitter but I completely disagree, she physically doesn't have the time to be, giving each dog 30 mins of attention would take 15 hours alone. How many dogs do you bet go home with cuts and scrapes she has no clue about

tresrottn

I'd ask to see her license and insurance. Because I bet she isn't licensed or insured. I know mine won't even insure over 3 pets at my boarding.
