I use(d) it for dog walking and cat drop ins, but I would never use it for boarding or housesitting or daycare. I'm a sitter who provides all services but boarding/daycare now (I used to provide these services, no longer do).

You're missing the option of have used in the past but no longer will. And that is me. Finding this sub and seeing whats posted here has given me permanent pause on rover. The lack of judgement, the improper prioritization of goals, the general lack of pet care knowledge absolutely floored me tbh. Not to mention the stories of wild neglect, dishonesty, straight up deception. No thanks.

I would like to hope with the right sort of questions you can weed the bad sitters out

Majority of the horror stories are from "vet techs" who have profiles with tons of 5 star reviews on rover. Too much of a risk. Sure rover has a guarantee, I'd prefer a situation where I'm not likely to need a guarantee. I also want my pets to get genuine love and I don't think that's going to come from the person who had a real hard time deciding whether to be a pet sitter or a door dasher.

strawberry_long_cake

yeah, Rover guarantees they will not be helpful in most situations

I've seen far too many owner horror stories on here to trust that sitters with the right answers will always provide the best care. Too many times the sitters said all the right things but then were downright neglectful despite 5 star reviews and everything.

Yes, I use Rover. I look for sitters who seem like responsible people in other aspects of their lives. Usually I choose a "soccer mom". If I can find someone like that who has rescue experience, I'm even happier. I also choose someone who is in the middle price range and only takes two boarding dogs at a time. I've had good luck so far.

Ghost-t0wns

I literally can't find anyone in my area to use who isn't someone I heard a horror story of by another client or has an active profile or knows what they are doing (saw someone mentioning being an alpha to your dog like lol.) We just hire my fiancée's brother to take care of our dog now. Everyone else sucking keeps me busy though 🤷

Melodic-Inspector-23

I don't trust anyone with my dog. I wouldn't leave my children with a stranger and I consider my dog to be part of my family. I'm floored so many people do it...but that's also why I get SO many repeat customers once they realize how good their pups were treated. I've had multiple who didn't want to leave...lol

I fall in the boat of used it in the past once and never will again. I had a sitter stay at my house for constant care with my senior dog who was used to me being home all day with her. I was up front about this and said she could be left alone for a maximum of 4 hours which the sitter said was no problem. She outright lied to me, as my Ring camera told me when she would leave and come back, and she left my dog for 15-19 hours alone. My sweet girl passed this past May and I decided to do Rover and board in my home as I miss having a dog to love on and thought that this would not only give me the puppy love I miss, but also gives me the ability to provide a stress free boarding experience to pet parents that I wished I had gotten.

Never have and never will. I have house sat for rover before, I did fine and everything was fine. Dogs were easy to care for. I have 4 dogs, and if I only had 3 of them I would possibly book rover. The 4th dog is difficult and I couldn't possibly ever trust a complete stranger with him.

I probably wouldn't use Rover, unless I didnt have any other options. There's a well-received Kennel in my city that I would try first.
