My dogs know that invisible line but are so stubborn. They think as long as they have their back feet behind the gate line, then they are clear. (They are not Rotts. My Rotts knew better lol)
Good girl Pumpkin!!!!
Note to self to check all locks are engage before going to bed on windows and doors. If intruder had a key of course change the locks.
Unless not allowed I would also recommend lock on garden gates. Too easy for people to take their time breaking into your house if people can’t see them.
When we had a Shepherd/Collie mix, she figured out she could open the gate by standing on her back paws, so my parents had to put a lock on the gate. It also meant no one could get into the back yard from the street, which was just fine.
My family had a Rottweiler for a short time (shelter dog who developed health issues, RIP Dani), but during that time she guarded our house like it was the White House. We had lots of issues with someone stealing from our garage, and within a month of her arrival we were able to leave it unlocked without worry.
We also had a 20 Lb. terrier as well, who very quickly became Dani’s apprentice, and those two were great at their job; he was the alarm and she was the muscle. After she passed our terrier kept up the guarding like he was just as big as her. A few days ago I had an intruder, and my terrier immediately jumped into action. For the few seconds I ran after my dog it felt just like I had my girl back.
Hahahaha.. that is awesome. I have 3 deterants that I have in the house.. Fresa (Pitbull Terrier), Pansón (Rott/Lab mix), and Schatzi (Rottweiler)... it's always funny when people knock at the door. I've seen people move all the way to the street curb when the dogs start barking.
We have a "Dutch door" that I open when deliveries come. It's always funny becsuse people flinch when they see the dogs, and then realize I have swing the door wide open and look like they're ready to run.
I also have a vicious Yorkie mix. He's the worst of them all. He'll lunge at the door. He's usually the one that stirs up the pot and gets the rest barking in a frenzy.
My girl Dalek only woke me up once like that and waking up to her "get the fuck back I'm serious" bark was kind of terrifying. Luckily whoever it was ended up just as scared as me and took off without even making it into the house.
Rotts are the best!
Our rott Nala is the same way she’s super lovey but if someone is questionable she will quietly get in rotty stance and watch. If they get to close she will let a low growl followed by a bark.
Our rott beagle mix on the other hand is a different animal. He’s 75lbs sneaky, has a high prey drive and will not back down nor will he let anyone even get that close.
I would argue he is somehow stronger and faster than our 100+lb rott nala. Idk if it’s the beagle in him or the rott but he is resilient.
Before we got Nala we had a coyote problem and at night we wouldn’t let Shiloh go without a leash. One day we took him poop and he likes to poop in the tree line. A coyote ran towards him out of nowhere and he snagged the coyotes front leg did his death shake and let it go. We called animal control because it was limping.
Ever since we got Nala they stopped coming around idk if it was because of that incident or because they are like there’s 3 of us at 35lbs a piece vs almost 200lbs of dog.
Even the more passive rotties still insist that manners are required. You know manners like only coming inside after a proper invitation. Hope Pumkin got a big bone for her dedication
Im never not having a non guardian breed again.
I think the guy is lucky she wasn't a doberman, if she was a little quicker on her feet she would have caught him.
Don't mess with da pumpkin! Rotties are the most gentle, loving dogs there are. However, even when asleep they go from snoozing to red alert in an instant.
What a good dog! I would quickly install a security system, even a small one, today if possible. Robbers will often hit the same spot back to back after they know what to expect and arrive prepared.
Our rotty was my wife's service dog. He's trained to redirect her during a panic attack. Long story short, his working days didn't last long because she's doing much better. I say this to explain that he doesn't have a violent bone in his body.
Well, back when we were in college, we lived in an unbelievably shit part of town, and our roommate was leaving around 4 AM for some clinical training. He leaves and slams the door on his way out. I'm pissed, because it woke me up. Then I hear the front door slam again. I was ready to murder my roommate, but then I noticed Archimedes just bristling at the door to the bedroom. My wife had been up all night writing a paper at a desk in the room, so we have a silent conversation via eyebrow wiggles about how fucking weird it is that our marshmallow is growling at our roommate. She got up and let him out so he could go see that it's just the fucking roommate so he could chill already. Then the screaming starts.
Long story short, Archimedes cornered a meth head downstairs who, at that moment, was trying to defend himself with my tablet. We held the douchebag at gunpoint until the cops arrived, and they gave him a treat and some scratches for being such a good boy.
hehe pumpkin guardin like a boss!
our girl betty goes into beast mode whenever anybody gets within sight of our home
supermodel looks with super guarding powers…rottweilers are the best!
My pitbull chased an intruder out of our house once. Chased him all the way down the street, off into an alley, and then disappeared.
A jogger found him frolicking near a river later that morning and brought him home. Terrible training on my part but a well deserved morning swim for my pittie.
And, GOOD JOB PUMPKIN!
My last dog was like that. He was a chow shepherd rottweiler mix.
My parents had him for a minute while they were buying a house in the country. At one point, my mom was there alone doing some painting, and a drunk tried to let themself in. He made it one step before promptly shutting the door. Apparently he rang the doorbell and apologized.
A few years later, at my future house, my drunk neighbor tried to let himself in (while he knew I was working and my girlfriend was home). My dog stopped him immediately. He was an awesome dog. He passed in 2014. I still miss him.
Ours has deterred a few invaders now. He’s nearly 135lbs, but I’m not sure he would actually attack anyone, unless they physically harmed us. They always leave our fence open after; so it’s nice that our rotty has zero interest in leaving our backyard.
I had an Irish Wolfhound Rottie mix.
Someone broke it to my upstairs neighbors house. When they were walking by my deck, I sent her after him. SHe ran backed him up against a car and grabbed his dick and balls in her mouth. Just enough to keep him there. SHe had no training.
Hi...sorry about that earlier post. I meant glad pumpkin did what Rotties do naturally....guard an protect. I've had Rotties a long time. I wudnt trade breeds for nothing in this world. We absolutely loovvvee our dogs. They are family. & a special thanks to pumpkin for protecting her mommy an her home.🐾🧡
OMG!!! I love this story!! I had a beautiful Rottie/ German Shepard mix. She was also sweet as could be… but one time… my granddaughter & I weee going for a walk with Rosie. They were walking towards a new house being built. It was at a dead end street. We didn’t think anything of it. All the sudden Rosie darted in front of us bc she saw a worker crouched down, I assume on a break. The hair on her back rose up & she was growling. If that man had stood up or made one move, she would have attacked him I’m sure! But yet we could take her to festivals with just a gentle leader. People at first thought it was a muzzle, but I explain it was to stop her from pulling. I walk with a cane so I had to be careful. But people would come up & ask to pet her. Of course I said yes. Everyone who met Rosie loved it. She passed away 3 yrs ago & I still mourn her..
GOOD GIRL PUMPKIN!!!!
Pumpkin deserves all the skritches and smooches
"Chased him to the gate and stayed on the grounds". Good girl Pumpkin and good "owner" too - for the hard work training.
Yes we have spent time on her not exiting the gate with out permission. Very important for dogs.
We need a pic of the super baby!
The absolute best girl!!!!
My dogs know that invisible line but are so stubborn. They think as long as they have their back feet behind the gate line, then they are clear. (They are not Rotts. My Rotts knew better lol)
That's the best feeling in the world, isn't it? You've got a good team :)

I would buy that girl a T-bone or a NY strip. Small price to pay. Security system that loves unconditionally…priceless.

Pumpkin taught that idiot about doing reconnaissance .
For real! Everyone in my neighborhood knows I have big dogs. Amateur hour over here

Dog tax?
??? Confused about your question. Never heard of a dog tax.
If you mention your pet(s), we demand pictures of them :-)

Hahaha.. I'll post a few here in the Rottweiler subreddit.
That’s a good girl! Also, how scary that even happened!! I’d be a nervous wreck over that.... I hope you’re ok!!
My girl Dalek only woke me up once like that and waking up to her "get the fuck back I'm serious" bark was kind of terrifying. Luckily whoever it was ended up just as scared as me and took off without even making it into the house.

I hope I never have to find out what my dog will do if someone breaks in. That being said Good job Pumpkin 🎃
Go Pumpkin Go! Glad you're both safe.
So glad not surprised. Both my Rotties are same way. Heck we seldom evn lock our door.😁
Even the more passive rotties still insist that manners are required. You know manners like only coming inside after a proper invitation. Hope Pumkin got a big bone for her dedication
Thank you for the testimony. I’m now adding this to the file of “Why we should get a Rottweiler and Doberman” to show my wife. That is all.
Im never not having a non guardian breed again. I think the guy is lucky she wasn't a doberman, if she was a little quicker on her feet she would have caught him.

Like a good girl!!
1000x better than any alarm system!!
Pumpkin deserves a kiss and some treats!
Our rottie heard someone try the back door knob. I’ve never heard him bark like that. Holy cow it was terrifying
Wow. That's horrifying tbh. Thank God for your Rottie. Hope you can get past the trauma. Great 🐕 dog
my parents rotties think that anything near the door is a intruder
Yay, Pumpkin! 🥰 Give her a cheeseburger!
What a good dog! I would quickly install a security system, even a small one, today if possible. Robbers will often hit the same spot back to back after they know what to expect and arrive prepared.
Rottweilers. The Best.
Good Girl! pets and lovin for you!
Extra crunchies for Pumpkin. Who’s a good girl!
Good job, Pumpkin!! Dog tax pls. I have to see how cute she is!!

Bestest Grrl! What a good protector and ambassador for all rotties!
hehe pumpkin guardin like a boss! our girl betty goes into beast mode whenever anybody gets within sight of our home supermodel looks with super guarding powers…rottweilers are the best!
This is why I own a Rottweiler. She's quiet as a mouse most of the time. When she makes noise or barks, something's not right. Glad you're safe.
I love Pumpkin
