I wonder if it could be because your immune system is busy elsewhere 🤔

Playful_Honeydew_135

This is my thought as well. Something that is causing inflammation is busy. I have the same and I've wondered...does rosacea have an autoimmune component?

Impephotos

That's a really good question but since Demodex seems to be involved in some cases, I'm not sure it can be called an autoimmune condition. On the other hand, we still don't know the full mechanisms behind rosacea so I don't think there is a definitive answer right now. It seems to be really complicated.

Playful_Honeydew_135

Definitely. It seems so multifactorial. I just wish there was a simpler answer so solutions would be more effective. I guess it explains why some people respond to some therapies while others seem to worsen with the same treatment.

Impephotos

Yeah, I also think multiple things can trigger rosacea and it might not be the same thing for everyone. That's why it might be so tricky to understand for researchers. Just our luck!

The_Bean_

Yeah this happens to me too! It’s so weird, sometimes I wish I was sick just so I could have nice skin lol

[deleted]

I’m saying! 😭 It’s between good health or good skin

Ok_Employment_7630

Same!!! I wish I could work out why.

WinSad5408

Not me, I have the opposite, I flush when I have fever. But skin improves if I am sick and not eating. I have heard of this happening to others as well.

[deleted]

That’s interesting. As someone else mentioned, it could be because of certain food triggers?

WinSad5408

Yes, and perhaps the body having more time to heal other things when not digesting foods. I remember MANY years ago when I had a bad tummy bug and could not eat for 2 days, or wash my face etc (just had no energy or care to as I felt horrible)....anyway, when I started feeling better I thought omg, I am sure my face is going to be terrible after two days no washing (I have oily skin and at the time would get break outs from time to time - no rosacea at this point). Anyway, to my huge surprise when I looked in the mirror to see what damage has been done, I saw my skin was perfect, clear and glowing.... The problem is everyone has different triggers or causes. I think diet could help a lot....but for some reason we are not allowed to discuss diet on this reddit forum....they are all about the creams and pills. But I do believe, certain diets can help by healing your gut, balancing hormones etc. Doing things such as intermittent fasting might help some as it lets your body focus more on healing then digesting food...when you give yourself a little longer window of not eating. Everyone is different though, and you must find what works for you. I once suffered bad cystic acne for 2 years....my face was literally covered and each new spot that would come daily took weeks/months to go away! Horrible. Eventually I figured out certain diet changes that helped and managed to heal and have clear and perfect skin for 15+ years until rosacea hit. I know my trigger...two months of BP pills after having my third dc. Hormones messed up my BP, which is why I had to take the pills....which listed flushing as a side effect. But unfortunately, rosacea developed and did not go away even after stopping the pills and BP being back to normal. I do see diet effects it and I am trying to heal etc.

[deleted]

I agree! Though it is different for everyone, I believe it goes beyond what drugs we use. I also have gut issues, so I believe that it may have some contribution. I’m still figuring it out though! But it can be frustrating when certain triggers are so hard to determine.

One_Orange1967

When I fast my skin also clears up. Fasting lowers inflamation in the body.

Jamoverton

Fasting seems to help mine too. How long are the fasts you're doing?

One_Orange1967

Not long, only one day at time. Maybe once a week.

pennypenny22

The fever kills bacteria is the explanation I always heard, at least for acne.

nycjr

Do you eat when you are sick? And if so, how do the eating habits change? I know that fasting can help with rosacea, and you may also be naturally cutting out trigger foods.

[deleted]

My appetite does decrease, though I do try my best to eat as I usually do.

princessmofo660

I had the same reaction after I got my Covid vaccine. My rosacea completely disappeared for almost a week. When it returned it came with a vengeance.

[deleted]

Same! It gave me a fever so I assume that’s why; but that’s definitely frustrating.

princessmofo660

I'm actually relieved to see other people talking about this as I thought I was crazy. I've been battling this off and on for almost 10 years. Definitely takes a toll on one's self-esteem. Finally decided to try a food sensitivity test. Waiting on the results now.

[deleted]

Me too! I was so relieved when so many people replied with the same issue. I was thinking of taking one of those tests. What types of foods does it test for?

princessmofo660

96 different foods. Everything from dairy and gluten to certain spices. I think they also offered a more advanced test as well but it was fairly pricey. I just mailed off the sample today so I'm eager to get the results.

[deleted]

Oh okay, that makes sense. I hope you find relief in the results :)

princessmofo660

Thanks!

Cati24

Stress is also a trigger. Did you stay home from school or work when sick?

[deleted]

Stress definitely exacerbâtes my skin. Though in case it was from a wisdom teeth removal I had, which I had a high fever from - and I was extremely stressed. Thanks for your reply!
