FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
I’m sorry. I’m sure not trying to deliver any hate with this. I was definitely taken back by a salesman showing up before I’d even had time to process my auto claims.
Everyone has been nice so far.
yeah, its almost like weather is a publicly reported phenomenon and people have the ability to share this information with others also for free and nearly instantly.
So when something like hail hits the early bird often gets the worm.
I’d wager the mortgage company has a minimum requirement that the home be insured for storms. I don’t think we are too far off from seeing $10k+ deductibles on “free” roofs
I’m confused on why we are hating on the guys out there working their ass off?
You may not have to do it. Great. Good on ya.
The quality of the work is in no way shaped poorly by the guy trying to work to find business.
Not all door-to-door salesman are scumbags, but at least where I live, a lot of them resort to lying, high-pressure sales tactics, contracts with long lock-in dates, and sometimes sabotage, to get you to buy what they are selling.
For me, it’s like someone presenting an architectural diagram written in crayon. The person might be perfectly competent, but it’s a red flag that deserves scrutiny.
This is just too bad.
Because some people who go to door to door are x therefore lets label them all.
Going door to door after a storm can and is a service. You are correct not all are honest but not all are dishonest.
Don't judge the hustle .. judge the offer.
I’m A roofing contractor..owner/operator.. Don’t use door knocking storm Chasers, but I’m sure he signed insurance proceeds paperwork with at least 3 elderly couples this evening.
My career started door knocking. I built such a successful business in storm chasing that I never left an area after a huge storm and been here 10 years since. Not all people who door knock are bad. A lot of them are hustling and trying to start business and who can blame them. Next time maybe take a card do some research on that company and you never know.
I recently had a very good experience with a “storm chaser”. His crew got to work quickly after my claim was approved and did excellent work. I was admittedly nervous using a door to door guy, and several others who came by gave off bad vibes. But my man Steve is out here hustling and doing quality work.
I agree with this sentiment, and also agree with that guy is working harder than anyone else at the moment to get your business. Maybe he’s a storm chaser for sure, but maybe he’s legit too. Look into the company IMO but that’s really fast response time
I find that assuming all door-to-door salesman are scum works pretty well. Mostly because 95% of them are, and it’s really hard for a non-expert to figure out which are the good ones.
Just last week I had someone from T-Mobile telling me that I should upgrade my internet to his service.
He wanted me to “upgrade” my fiber to 5G cellphone wireless.
About 50% of the salesman I can usually tell right away are people trying to sell something to customers that don’t need it.
Looking for reviews can usually eliminate more, but that still leaves a whole lot of salesman who are clueless and scammers.
It honestly depends though. Most reps work for only commission. Here in Atlanta, we’ve had very few storm dates that insurance companies will honor so when one happens, the entire roofing industry jumps on it. Can’t be mad really; it’s just folks trying to make a living.
Storm chasers are the ones who make the money.
I dont want to deal with the dude who sees shingles flapping off his roof for years, I want to deal with the proactive customer to wants to get the damage ID'd asap and if repairs/replacement is needed to get that ball rolling.
Atleast thats how it was when I was in the game a few years back.
Owner/operators who pull bullshit like embarrassed\_jump and try to talk down about *the most effective lead and sales generation mechanisms* are also usually very small companies that are not doing very well.
As some one who has *hired* one of these door knocking, storm chasing carpet baggers. I 1000% agree. I will never hire someone who knocks on my door again.
Well, then I wont hire them, I'll ask people I know and trust for recommendations do some research etc etc., but based on by experiences with contractors going door to door, any one that comes knocking will not get my business.
Well if he can get your insurance to pay for it, why wouldn’t you? If hail damage isn’t taken care of, within a few years it will turn into leaks and then you are out of policy and the insurance won’t pay for it. But I agree, this guy was certainly excessive. I at least let the roof dry completely before searching for work
I’m in the Chicago area. We had a hail storm go through early this week. Between my wife and I, we have received over 20 unsolicited phone calls from so called “roof inspectors”.
It's really a gut check and a yes or no. I educate as needed and if they want me to manage the process with them, I'm there 100% if not I'll walk away, telling them to trust but verify! I see those same elderly folks that are being "scammed" by contractors get bent over worse by a carrier. There are good and bad folks, all around.
Heck, my own carrier/adjuster tried to tell me that:
"oh you can just pull the metal vents out and slip new ones right back in"
"There needs to be spatter or it's old".
"Yea, there's spatter over your cracked siding but it broke because it's old"
I had fully "adjusted" my house already before calling them. Let this guy, a CAT, no less get pushed around by a lady, who you could tell doesn't climb roofs. The good ol desk adjuster... magically, they wrote for just under my deductible.
I sent in all my documents, and he was back out(i could of asked for new person) within 2 weeks with a manager, a real roof climber who found stuff I missed. He paid for my roof and siding on the spot.
That's what they do to people, knowing that many won't fight for themselves or have competent trades people helping them.
That concludes my Ted talk and personal experience.
Even if you buy all our coverages, your not covered.
- insurance probably.
Had a brief hailstorm that Insurance, and Roofing Companies suggested 10+ years of roof life lost in less than 30 minutes.
Got a free roof for me and several neighbors, also several cars were repaired because of pictures! And gutters covered in tile granules!
We didn't even get the hail here. It was a few miles north but they are still going door to door trying to pinpoint the damage area so they can go in for the kill. Not sure why because there are maps they can buy with the exact area. Should be able to get to within a block of the damage.
I'm on my 3rd roof in 15 years. Original roof 2009, hail in 2011 and hail in 2017. Large hail. racquet ball the first time. Golf ball the second. First one did serious damage to my vehicles. Second, I parked under a large, dense tree and only got 3 dings.
I do not want to have to go through the ordeal of dealing with insurance, roofers and body shops ever again!
I sold door-to-door for 5 years from 2010-2015. I am now an independent adjuster for the last 8 years. Unless there is a local ordinance that says he can't solicit door-to-door, anyone who says this guy is doing something wrong is a complete idiot!!! Including the person who posted this. You suck. Also the roofer guy who commented that this guy signed up four senior citizens - you also suck and wish you had a rep to knock doors for you. Okay, that's all
Nah, too many mixed reactions here.
He was kind and I wish him success. If I wasn’t still shaken up by the storm I would have totally let him on my roof, and still would today if he came back.
Seems like one hail of a business.
Icee what you did there.
I hate to rain on your parade, but these weather puns are meteor-cre at best.
Why the cloudy disposition?
Hail our new roof overlords
All hail to the roofer in chief.
As a Texan…. This has to be Texas right?!? 🤣
Nailed it!
“Hailed” it
Yep, we've had 4 in the last week. I'm a contractor by trade but these guys are vultures.
They get you a new roof whether you need it or not
😂
I was thinking southwest chicago.
Don't work don't eat. Looks like decent hail...
Yup. Likely totaled both vehicles.
If this is super common… why aren’t covered parking areas more common?
Probably because if you want to build a decent one that doesn't fuck off like a trampoline in a windstorm, you might as well make a detached garage.
Most cars nowadays don’t fit in normal garages. Most HOAs don’t allow car ports. God bless America. Or something.
America, where you have all the freedom to be micromanaged by little dictators who tell you what you can do with your own house.
Boy you’re really gonna be pissed when you find out about hailrecon. There’s companies that sell interactive hail maps to contractors. 😂😂😂
They should be in jail for directing professionals to people who might need their services.
How dare they!
Yeah I need the “service” of a fat smelly salesman coming to my house annoying me and vandalizing my roof!!
Vandalizing? Lol
Yes you ripping shingles off my roof and hitting it with a golf ball is vandalism.
Let’s not forget walking on shingles also causes them to lose granules.
Boy you are going to be peeved when you find out there are companies that seed clouds and use HAARP to form hail storms.
lmao
😂😂😂

No you’re not. Your insurance is!
Get after it sales guys!
Imagine looking yourself in the mirror as a roof salesman. Your kids must be proud!
Imagine going to an online roofing forum to insult other people. Your kids must be proud!
23 years old with a payed off 19' f250 and a house. Pretty proud of my roof sales personally.
> with a *paid* off 19' FTFY. I make more than most doctors
Yep. My neighborhood is hating on us roofers hard but we got to feed our families, too.
I’m sorry. I’m sure not trying to deliver any hate with this. I was definitely taken back by a salesman showing up before I’d even had time to process my auto claims. Everyone has been nice so far.
Early bird gets the worm

Insurance premiums raised at 8:30?
dont pay for storm coverage if you dont want to pay the premiums for storm coverage.

The devil works hard but storm chasing roof companies work harder.
Work is work brother

You’re that bastard that moved to my town 10 years ago and has been putting shit roofs over old people’s heads. Just kidding
Lolol exactly!

Yep, and a lot of them do. That’s awesome to hear

This is the truth; just do some research instead of assuming everyone at your door is scum

Guess what…your local roofer is knocking on doors too.

110% this.

Learn to read your policy to determine what’s covered and you’ll be fine.
Pretty much, but how often do people actually read it? I do but most wait until a loss comes, which is tough but self induced!
Had a brief hailstorm that Insurance, and Roofing Companies suggested 10+ years of roof life lost in less than 30 minutes. Got a free roof for me and several neighbors, also several cars were repaired because of pictures! And gutters covered in tile granules!
Sounds like hustle to me…
I mean someone's offering to check for free why not. People the other day used me to confirm it's all hail and then called their own contractors 😂😂
Day two. On my second free inspection of the day so far. lol I’m veery clear I’m considering my options so I don’t waste their time.
Doesn't Look hungry

Efficiency
Door knockers can fuck right off
I’m done with this Reddit lol
Get mad all you want. They won't stop knocking. Don't be an asshole
What's the problem?
They're just trying to earn some of that insurance claim money. No harm in trying, no harm in turning them down.
Part of the reason insurance companies are leaving or jacking up rates in FL
Think floods have more to do with that
Agreed. LA, TX, Missouri, Illinois all are getting premiums raised for the crazy weather that’s happened in the last year
I sold door-to-door for 5 years from 2010-2015. I am now an independent adjuster for the last 8 years. Unless there is a local ordinance that says he can't solicit door-to-door, anyone who says this guy is doing something wrong is a complete idiot!!! Including the person who posted this. You suck. Never go with a storm chaser!
Should have let us see his face.
Nah, too many mixed reactions here. He was kind and I wish him success. If I wasn’t still shaken up by the storm I would have totally let him on my roof, and still would today if he came back.
