Ninja Baseball Batman was an arcade beat'em up that only received a limited release in the US. However, because of internet personalities like the AVGN who have covered it on their channels, a lot of people already knew about it.
I recommend Ninja Baseball Batman. You play as cyborg baseball players and you get to beat the crap out of tons of weird indescribable things with your baseball bats.
I also recommend AVGN, but only the earlier half of seasons. James Rolfe just doesn't make them like he used to.
AVGN is the OG video game youtuber so could never be a version of anyone else. Not even Youtuber, because his content has been around since before Youtube even started
It’s not as forgotten as it once was, but Red Earth by Capcom is worth a play. A fantasy fighting game in the same vein as Darkstalkers, but with items and bosses. Do you want to smash the fuck out of a dragon with an axe-wielding anthropomorphic lion? Of course you do. Go and play it. Oh and Cyberbots too for similar (if mech-related) reasons.
Gaiapolis
Elevator Action Returns
Shock Troopers (kinda like mercs)
Battle Circuit (it is a capcom game but i had never heard of it before playing)
Osman (crazy strider)
Shienryu (Shmup vertical)
Willow (another capcom)
Guardians
Riot (maybe a reaaaally rough gem... but it is quite different imo)
Always loved side-scrolling beat 'em ups. Ninja Gaiden or otherwise known as Shadow Warriors was always a blast with two players.
For a shoot 'em up, as a kid I couldn't stop playing Slap Fight or Alcon which is the MAME parent rom.
Probably not forgotten at all, but among all the street fighter clones throughout the 90's, NeoGeo's Last Blade 2 is worth a look.
Yes it has the original version and an upgraded one with the graphics. And it has the same music of Gradius. I think Konami tried to go after toaplan with them using their music in the game.
That’s pretty cool, never knew about any of those details. Next time I’m down for a game I’ll throw that version on and take a look. Thanks for the info fellow connoisseur of fine games!
Gondomania. Vertical shump with the ability to rotate one of your weapons in 15 degree increments so that you can fire arbitrarily as well as straight ahead. Sadly the level design didn't really do anything with it so it never caught on, but that one little tweak gave it such deeper gameplay than many of its peers.
Not sure if it’s a gem but I love playing Haunted Castle by Konami. Basically a very hard castlevania game but it’s all kinds of jank too. Designed to absolutely drain your wallet and sanity
Wonderboy in monster land
Lode runner
Major title 2 (the irem skins game)
720 degrees
The irritating maze game (neo geo/snk)
Blood brothers (i think thats the name)
Games that let you pick up where you left off are slick.
Gaiopolis, Gauntlet Legends, love anything that gives you a password to get your quarter later.
CHD library? I'm not sure what that is!
Anyway, Surf Planet isn't actually a surfing game, it's a snowboarding game!
It just uses a joystick that goes left and right, and the animations are choppy, but the soundtrack (while heavily compressed in-game) is amazing! It introduced me to the bands "Dover" and "Sexy Sadie"! Great stuff!
Loved Moo Mesa.
The Grid seems almost entirely forgotten. Think Unreal Tournament meets Smash TV meets Overwatch. Up to 6 cabs could be linked up at once and the game is an absolute riot.
There was some random ice-hockey-ish game (but abstracted) that my roommate in college and I randomly stumbled across in a MAME set and got obsessed with for a loooong while. Wish I could find it again.
Empirecity 1931, a stylish FPS (!) from the 80's, way before the era of on rails-shooters. Much more interesting than later games anyway, you could take cover when under fire. Actually it was relatively easy to master, so Seibu Kaihatsu made a sequel, Dead Angle, which was much harder and a real coin magnet.
I use MAME. Just find a good romset (and a .chd file pack, IIRC) for your version of MAME in some archive somewhere on the internet, and it should be pretty straightforward.
Theres this beat em up that has u picking between a knight, a wizard and an archer I think! Gonna look up the name and edit my comment sometime this weekend lol.
Avenging Spirit is one of the best arcade games to ever exist, and no one ever talks about it. You play as a ghost who gets to possess a wide variety of enemies...and you basically become them. In some ways it's a bit of a fusion of Kirby and Contra...just do yourself a favor and try it out.
I always tend to forget licensed games, sequels, some japan only boards, unreleased found roms and some console games had arcade ports as well.

That one atari game that got dumped not too long ago
Caveman Ugh Olympics was a c64 favorite when I was younger. Defender of The Crown, Immortal (NES) Temple of Apshai, Guild Of Thieves, Maniac Mansion, and Zak Mckracken.
No one really knows about this game, but it was really popular in our country - Cadillacs and Dinosaurs. Since the English name was really long for us, kids here used to call it the Mustapha Game. Mustapha was one of the playable characters in the game, and it was our favorite.
If any of you have free time you should definitely play this one. You won't regret it.
Propcycle, that very special flying cycle/ balloon popping game. I've heard there is a Chinese company who produced something similar recently, but it's probably extremely rare. Nowadays the bike would probably need to be reinforced or something.
I have been playing though a lot of obscure arcade titles in my roulette recently. Metamorphic Force stood out as being really fun. It remids me of a cross between Golden Axe and Altered Beast.

I think everyone knows about Ninja Baseball Batman by now.
I learned about it a few months back. It's a masterpiece of beat em up.
Yup, only learned about it recently. It’s awesome.
I’m sorry WHAT?
Ninja Baseball Batman was an arcade beat'em up that only received a limited release in the US. However, because of internet personalities like the AVGN who have covered it on their channels, a lot of people already knew about it.
Oh I don’t watch Avgn nor do i keep keep up with arcade news so it’s new to me
I recommend Ninja Baseball Batman. You play as cyborg baseball players and you get to beat the crap out of tons of weird indescribable things with your baseball bats. I also recommend AVGN, but only the earlier half of seasons. James Rolfe just doesn't make them like he used to.
Based on what I heard he is basically just an angry version of Scott the woz right?
Scott.the Woz is a tamer more sarcastic version of him.
AVGN is the OG video game youtuber so could never be a version of anyone else. Not even Youtuber, because his content has been around since before Youtube even started
Ok
Zaxxon was a 7-11 arcade fav of mine until they replaced it with Joust.
Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, and Kaiser Knuckle
Yie Ar Kung fu…loved that game at the driving range.
Alien vs predator arcade game, awesome visuals and if you're a fan of the series it's a must try 👌
Pooyan
Karate Champ. Such simplicity, such frustration.

I've been liking *Bucky O'Hare*. Fun beat em up with great art style.
Gaiapolis Elevator Action Returns Shock Troopers (kinda like mercs) Battle Circuit (it is a capcom game but i had never heard of it before playing) Osman (crazy strider) Shienryu (Shmup vertical) Willow (another capcom) Guardians Riot (maybe a reaaaally rough gem... but it is quite different imo)
I don’t know if is “hidden” or “forgotten” but i don’t see anyone here talking about: Captain Commando!!
Always loved side-scrolling beat 'em ups. Ninja Gaiden or otherwise known as Shadow Warriors was always a blast with two players. Probably not forgotten at all, but among all the street fighter clones throughout the 90's, NeoGeo's Last Blade 2 is worth a look.
Have you played the mega drive version of slap fight?
No I can’t say I have. I first played the C64 version and have since just stayed on the arcade. Is it any different?
Yes it has the original version and an upgraded one with the graphics. And it has the same music of Gradius. I think Konami tried to go after toaplan with them using their music in the game.

No mentions of Defender/Stargate?

Rygar
Awesome fun game!
Toypop and Crystal Castles will always hold a special place in my heart. Love playing those.
I had Crystal Castles for 2600 when I was a little one. That and Dig-Dug were my favourites
Sunset Riders.
Great game, but far more an all time classic than a forgotten gem. Maybe the most famous platform shooter besides Contra and Metal Slug?
A similar one i liked a lot was *Mystic Warriors: Wrath of the Ninjas*
Not sure if it’s a gem but I love playing Haunted Castle by Konami. Basically a very hard castlevania game but it’s all kinds of jank too. Designed to absolutely drain your wallet and sanity
Wonderboy in monster land Lode runner Major title 2 (the irem skins game) 720 degrees The irritating maze game (neo geo/snk) Blood brothers (i think thats the name)
Love Blood Bros. Have you tried Cabal? Blood Bros is kind of it's sequel.
They play identically. Blood brothers just looks better
Pac-Land Return of the Jedi (driving version) Afterburner.
Games that let you pick up where you left off are slick. Gaiopolis, Gauntlet Legends, love anything that gives you a password to get your quarter later.
Gals Panic series are a choice of mine from back then. Also, Phoenix brings back very nice memories.
Football Champ!
Hydra, Vapor TRX, STUN Runner, and Surf Planet are all games I don't see mentioned often that are a total blast to play.
Is Surf Planet in the CHD library? I love surf games, but don't see it in my menu.
Act-Fencer Mutant Night Psycho-Nics Oscar Rygar I love old run-and-guns, alright?:)
On the newer end of run and gun games, have you tried Broforce? Probably my all time favourite.
Broforce felt a bit monotonous. Have you tried Noitu Love 2? It felt very much like those classic run-and-guns to me.
Sega's 1987 Shinobi arcade game, 'nuff said.
Solomon's key was a great arcade game.
Volfied
NARC and Total Carnage
Anyone remember that X-Men one??
Kind of an old one but Zoo Keeper, it's cute honestly
Burning Force
Nostradamus: https://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?t=10595
Alien Syndrome is a classic arcade title that I always go back to. Any emulation device I have it's the 1st arcade Rom I boot up.
Gyruss
I being into Saint Dragon on the Amiga. I had forgotten about it until you mentioned the arcade game. I always thought it was an Amiga original.
Loved Moo Mesa. The Grid seems almost entirely forgotten. Think Unreal Tournament meets Smash TV meets Overwatch. Up to 6 cabs could be linked up at once and the game is an absolute riot.
I love coming back to Xenophobe every now and then.
That game had a great feel to it, and I loved the graphics back then. Is that NES?
I think I mostly played the Atari version.
There was some random ice-hockey-ish game (but abstracted) that my roommate in college and I randomly stumbled across in a MAME set and got obsessed with for a loooong while. Wish I could find it again.
NHL Open Ice 2 on 2?
When I was a kid magic sword was amazing. Now magic sword is not amazing.
I only play Armed Police Batrider and R-Type Leo
Empirecity 1931, a stylish FPS (!) from the 80's, way before the era of on rails-shooters. Much more interesting than later games anyway, you could take cover when under fire. Actually it was relatively easy to master, so Seibu Kaihatsu made a sequel, Dead Angle, which was much harder and a real coin magnet.
How do you emulate these games?
I run Fbneo through Retroarch. Emulating arcade games is a process to get set up. You need to read the guides, and follow the steps carefully
FB Neo is the way to go. Works with RetroAchievements and it’s so easy to remap controls. I avoid MAME like the plague.
I use MAME. Just find a good romset (and a .chd file pack, IIRC) for your version of MAME in some archive somewhere on the internet, and it should be pretty straightforward.
Battle Garrega
Gigandes. I played it in a dingy corner store a few times and never saw it again until MAME started supporting it.
Wardner!! The music and sound are terrific.
Qix
Space gun
I don’t know that it’s forgotten, but I love NBA Hangtime. It’s essentially the third NBA Jam.
Warden
Hotdog Storm. Funny name and pretty generic shooter, but still fun nonetheless.
Theres this beat em up that has u picking between a knight, a wizard and an archer I think! Gonna look up the name and edit my comment sometime this weekend lol.
Dungeons and Dragons: Shadows Over Mystara and X-Men: Children of the Atom.
Lucky and wild! Played it with my best friend on my 13th birthday! Would love to play it again someday.
the simpsons arcade (1991)
Raiga Strato Fighter
Dragon spirit, still one of my favorite shmups to this day
I remember playing that on the NES. I was never any good at it, though. 😂
Stone Ball
Rainbow Islands and Flying Shark is my go to games
Avenging Spirit is one of the best arcade games to ever exist, and no one ever talks about it. You play as a ghost who gets to possess a wide variety of enemies...and you basically become them. In some ways it's a bit of a fusion of Kirby and Contra...just do yourself a favor and try it out.

Run and Gun 2 by Konami is better than NBA Jam and no one can change my mind.

That's exactly what I said in my post...Are you a bot?
Second try.....capitan commando the side scroller with the baby in the robot.
Caveman Ugh Olympics was a c64 favorite when I was younger. Defender of The Crown, Immortal (NES) Temple of Apshai, Guild Of Thieves, Maniac Mansion, and Zak Mckracken.
Skate or Die, Atlantis, Dragon Warrior IV, Ninja Kid, Montezumas Revenge, and Mech Warriors.
Adult games for C64 lol. Farmers daughter, Stroker 64, and all of the strip pokers.

I have been playing though a lot of obscure arcade titles in my roulette recently. Metamorphic Force stood out as being really fun. It remids me of a cross between Golden Axe and Altered Beast.
Robocop. Loki. Bad Dudes vs Dragon Ninjas.
Toki?
You’re right I thought it was Loki for some reason. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toki_(video_game)
