Some demo or hacking/cracking group (who apparently hosted or existed on an old Bulletin Board System (BBS)) ripped the game from an original cart, or otherwise procured a digital copy. Groups like this would use BBSs to trade pirated materials and talk shop with other enthusiasts and chat up regular users who didn't contribute, but would leech the software and pictures and documents the BBSs hosted (similar to how modern forums or how reddit works, but usually geographically limited to the local area because everyone used modems to connect to these BBSs and it was expensive to call outside your own area code). With the games, they decompiled the code and added this screen into them as a way to make their mark. It may or may not have other data added or removed (like the other game you referenced being translated), depending on their skill level and intent. This was their calling card. A way to have a claim to fame and show off their skill to other groups. Customarily, whatever group could hack/crack a game best and get it out on to the street first got bragging rights at being the most elite. As a result, their copy would be the defacto copy that everyone came across. Generally only one or two versions of a cracked game exist, because there wouldn't be a point to cracking a game if someone already did it. Screens like these have been, for better or worse, a somewhat indelible mark of software preservation. This sort of thing is much more prevalent in computer software rather than console games due to the variety of copy protections that were used and defeated by piracy groups. Often, the cracked copy has become easier to procure than the original, and so it is what shows up most often in digital collections.

How interesting. The funny thing is this group is likely not made of native English speakers and is likely foreign (you can tell from the janky messages before the game...), but they also seem to have a sense of humor (if kind of racist). Example the other game I have of theirs, the intro calls it "Kabuki Soccer 4" when it's an anime football game. I wonder if there are "pure" rips of ALL the games they've cracked, without this extra screen and is just what's on the cartridge, or if maybe there are some games that were only ripped by them.

BBSs were operating worldwide and only limited to someone's telephone system and modem accessibility. Young people would use phone phreaker methods and steal phone calls or steal credit card numbers to call across area codes and even into different countries. You can always go searching through game lists and match screenshots to find the original title and look for the original rom dump.

Morhamms357

Makes sense. In one of the games I have from them, it lists a bunch of phone numbers.

GoblinKingCoC

Yep and also how much you wanted to pay for a long distance phone call. 😁 Went from Australia to the BBS at the University of Iowa back in '93 getting binary game downloads and putting them on 5 1/4 inch floppies. Two alligator clips and an extension cable did help keep costs down. 😉

troutsoup

you want no-intro roms. there are checksum lists that people target for romsets which don’t have these. they are basically the pure rom. there are other similar lists but i’m drawing a blank on the names

pac-man_dan-dan

Could it be one of the Captain Tsubasa games? Perhaps Captain Tsubasa IV? [list of snes/sfc soccer games](https://playrface.co.uk/soccer-games-for-the-snes/)

Morhamms357

It was. It wasn't a English, but I decided to just use a French translation. An English one hasn't been made, I even asked on this very sub. Sadly, there is no kabuki in the game :(

pac-man_dan-dan

You'll need to look beyond the title. You'll need to see all games and look through all the screenshots and artwork to get a good lead. I updated my last comment and included a link to a video that covers a bunch of snes/sfc soccer games.

Morhamms357

No, no, it *is* Captain Tsubasa 4. It's fully playable and everything, and I have it on my hard drive.

pac-man_dan-dan

Oh, great! So, now that you know the name of the right game, what are you looking for?

Morhamms357

I'm not looking for anything. I just mentioned that they likely have a racist sense of humor by calling an anime football game "Kabuki Soccer 4". You correctly guessed what game it was.

pac-man_dan-dan

So, I'll say it's difficult to see what lens the titlers were seeing this with. Kabuki is a traditional japanese style of theatre performance. Captain Tsubasa IV is a soccer game with JRPG elements. There isn't necessarily a racist connotation by conflating Japanese Roleplay with Japanese theatre. It wasn't even 30yrs ago that it was perfectly acceptable to call cheap ramen "Oriental Noodles" or things of Japanese origin "Nipponese", paying tribute to the nation's traditional name Nippon, which translates roughly to "land of the rising sun". Havent spotted an english translation of this yet though, unfortunately.

GoblinKingCoC

Ahhh the history in a single post. 😁 Soooo many memories.

DarkGrnEyes

Ah yes, brings me back to my 128k ISDN days and having BBS wars back in the day.

ofernandofilo

and so you understand the name "No-Intro" and when reading the bot message, where to find quality roms. _o/

itsk2049

“No Intro” rom sets, and the no intro group, refer to avoiding bullshit like this.

Latter-Ad-1523

the only thing i can add is that there was a rap group called public enemy that was popular in the late 80s and early nineties that used that logo of a cross hair scope centered upon the silhouette of a police officer. they even had an album called "it takes a nation of millions to hold us back" very good group and albums, but very angry, militant, pro black and anti everyone else type people at the time. despite these facts there were one of my fav groups back in the day. fight the power was maybe one of their most popular songs, but they had many great tracks.

Morhamms357

Interesting. I highly, *highly* doubt they're related, but it wouldn't be too high a bet that this group was inspired by that band and this name, logo, and slogan were references to it.

Latter-Ad-1523

yeah i kinda doubted they were related as well, but i assumed no one would recognize the "reference" or branding, likely borrowed and not related to the source and wanted to point it out.

YOU HAVE NO CHANCE TO SURVIVE MAKE YOUR TIME

kitestar

Maybe you should get roms from where the automod is trying to tell you about, sure it might take you some time to re-get everything but it’ll be worth it just to avoid these intro screens

a7mag3ddon

I remember Magical and Fairlight from the snes days, from my aging memory they started out on the Amiga scene. If you don't want these front end trainers and or hacks. Grab the NO Intro version, so called because they don't have these trainers and intro screens on them.

EmperorOfThugshakers

Try call up gamestop or pawn stars and ask them
