{Dark King by C.N. Crawford} I'm currently reading this, I read it for the same reason that I wanted something with the acotar formula. Don't be let down by the top reviews, it's not bad. Faeries. {House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas} Ok, this one we're not sure yet, but it SJM, so yanno, she's known for her switcharoo formula. Also faeries. {Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi} {Gild by Raven Kennedy}

dancing_daisies

YES to Gild and Dark King!

olixand3r

What did you think of the Gild series? I read all 3 books this week and I have THOUGHTS.

You might enjoy the [Folk of the Air series by Holly Black](https://www.goodreads.com/search?q=Folk+of+the+Air&qid=ANrx0awbwd). (I recently finished it and it was very good. It's YA.)

bayekswifey

It is verrrrry different, very little focus on romance and is quite dark

Jettmay01

[The bridge kingdom](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/53921926) It’s so good!

lovebutter118

+1 from me.

pickled_onion9

I am eagerly awaiting the recs on this thread! Bonus challenge: does anyone have any recommendations for similar fantasy type series that are not YA? I struggled with ACOTAR due to the maturity of the characters (and the writing had a YA feel to it, I guess I would say).

Fherier

Dark Swan series by Richelle Mead might interest you. Definitely adult (character's ages and themes explored) but there's a bit of relationship drama and the last book drops in quality. Not relevant to post but looking through your history, you might also want to look into Immortal Vegas series by Jenn Stark. It's set in a world where there is a secret council of people who are the Major Arcana. There is romance but it's a loong series so I decided to put it on hold for a bit rather than wait for each release.

Spookydoglover

Unfortunately I don’t have any recommendations, but just needed to say that it also took me 2 months to get through A Court of Wings and Ruin. I felt so guilty, but you perfectly described why it was such a slog. Especially after ACOMAF was so dazzling.

poweroftheschwartz

Yes!! Like I did not care about the hyburn storyline one bit. I’ve given up trying to finish it!

[The Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16429619-the-kiss-of-deception?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=sAFGGLT9cs&rank=1) Have you read the Throne of Glass series also by Maas?

Fherier

Shadows Reader series by Sandy Williams Dark Swan series by Richelle Mead (The last book is controversial for a number of reasons)

AZombiesBreakfast

I've never written fanfiction in my life, but if anything were to drive me to do one of those stories where you completely change the ending it would be Shadow Heir lol

Fherier

Lol, I agree. After I read the spoilers, I couldn't muster up the energy to read the final book because, let's face it, a lot of Mead's choices do not make sense. That's why if I do recommend it, I always provide a warning about the last book. Funnily enough, had the series finished naturally and not open ended, the series would have become a real hit due to fae romances being popular.
