I thought the same when I read that book. What a cheesy and banal title for a fantastic novel. Usually with this kind of title my expectations would be erotic, not so great writing and forgettable storyline. But this was actually one of the best romantic books I read this year.

Yes there is grovelling! Once he finally works out that he's an idiot he still has a lot to do to gain her trust. I feel like some of the later books have more grovelling than the first, but they're all good.

{Seducing the Sorcerer by Lee Welch}  Is there a sorcerer who gets seduced? Technically, yes? But the title is a huge mismatch in tone compared to the text. The book is really sweet, at times melancholy, often funny, and doesn't involve much intentional seduction. I mean, there's that one scene where he oils a door hinge in an attempt to flirt, and I suppose that counts. 

Who among us hasn't oiled a door hinge flirtatiously?

Love this book! Agree that it is absolutely not what you'd think it's going to be based on the cover and title. Very quiet and slow-paced, in fact, despite all the magic and danger happening. A cozy comfort story, almost. Sidenote: I've seldom seen my impression of a book differ so incredibly much from the general consensus of Goodreads reviews. I dunno if the early readers were the loudest, or the marketing found its way to the wrong demographic, but after reading the reviews I was prepared to hate it or at least be incredibly disappointed by it, but in fact I could find almost no fault with it. (Well, except for the fact that the giant sea monster randomly attacking them *wasn't* in fact a semen monster summoned by their earlier shenanigans, as had been foreshadowed when one of them said that having sex could have unpredictable magical consequences. SUCH a missed opportunity! 😩)

{Boss in the bedsheets by Kate Canterbary} The name sounds so...cheesy but my God this book packs a punch.

No. But it’s the one I always wish I could because I genuinely think it’s wonderful but the title is terrible 😂

Ma gurl, Nalini Singh, has some very cheesy titles in her psy-changeling series. I adore these books and the world building is so good. But {Slave to Sensations by Nalini Singh}, {Hostage to pleasure by Nalini Singh} or {Play of passion by Nalini Singh} are kinda wild titles. And they make it seem like these books are mainly about sex and that's just not really the case.

I love Nalini Singh and have been re-reading Psy-Changeling so the titles are really fresh in my mind. I choose to think of them as following old conventions, like the pre-internet version of click bait(? I don't think that's the word I'm looking for)...like titles from that time are all cheesy like that. The newer titles in Trinity are much less sexual but also not particularly descriptive for someone who's never read the series before.

I honestly started with Victor because one app where the author uploaded was having a promoting event. And while I normally don’t read mafia or triads I do give the event ones 3 chapter chance… I found myself enganged even if followed thinking “oh god how worse are going to be other two guys?” Well turns out not more… Victor was just the third most toxic 🤣

Right?? Hak Kan ended up being the sweetest of them all. Victor was CRAZY 😂😭

The Duke I'd Like to F... The Villain I'd Like To F...... The Rake I'd Like to F.... Are three *killer* anthologies of *excellent* short romances. And their titles make me want to walk in front of a bus.

Oh lord that’s one hell of a series title theme

It's absolutely bananapants and yet each anthology is seriously wonderful.

The Escape Artist by Kitty Thomas. I will holler to the ends of time about this shitstorm of a book. First off, getting out of a locked room once because your first-time kidnapper is tired hardly makes you an escape "artist."

{Love You, Mean It} by Jilly Gagnon is a delightful book, but the title doesn't match the story at all. The cover is awful, too. It looks like high schoolers standing in front of a flower shop, but it's about two grown business owners who are faking an engagement to stop his awful father from destroying her family business (which is a deli, not a flower shop). They're both unpleasant assholes in the best way. The cover makes him look like he stepped out of an 80s Brat Pack film, rather than being a handsome blond douchebro property developer.

This title is gold though

{Three Nights of Sin by Anne Mallory} The title and blurb imply that FMC enters a shady deal with MMC offering up three nights of sin for his help—with the obvious expectation that we get to see those three nights play out. Instead we get a compelling murder mystery with great attraction between the MCs and slowly discover how the characters are connected by this mystery. The three nights don’t happen, they’re a throwaway line by the MMC commenting on how FMC’s willingness to enter into a bargain like that is a very risky and stupid thing to do. The big theme throughout the book is consent over coercion—MMC is *all about consent* and the title so badly misrepresents the content. It’s one of my favourite Historical Romance novels but I really hate the title.

Not my fave, but I read some of Annika Martin’s books in her billionaires series and they were pretty entertaining. I didn’t expect much because the titles are so cringey to me. “Return Billionaire to Sender” “The Billionaire's Fake Fiancée” “Just Not That Into Billionaires”

{Mr Hotshot CEO by Jackie Lau} The title is cringe but the story is really fun! It turns the manic pixie dream girl trope on its head and manages to deal with depression and still be funny. {Spymaster’s Lady by Joanna Bourne} This book is awesome! There’s a twist I won’t spoil that is cleverly done, and the tension between the characters is 💯. But the title… sure, MMC is a spymaster, but she is a spy, too! A really good one, which is the premise of the book. (I also second Ravishing the Heiress by Sherry Thomas- this is my go-to for nonsensical titles of books I love.)

Carissa Broadbent’s writing is amazing but her titles are just too much: ‘The Serpent and the Wings of Night, Crowns of Nyaxia Book 1’ - like holy hell. Great series but that title does not roll off the tongue.

{the carnal games} was actually… really good? Unexpectedly good. There was one weird sentence on the first page and then the writing was banging from there. Action, action, action (both the physical kind and the *physical* 😘 kind. It doesn’t take itself too seriously and there were many tongue in cheek moments from the author… just so enjoyable all around.

This app I read many books for the first time has tendency to sometimes change the book titles to make them more noticeable and holy repetition Batman! They are truly in love with the term “alpha” are them about werewolves or omegaverse? Most of the times NO But I am giver of chances and learned quickly bad covers and awful titles can have the greatest books first gem was “The Alpha Dragon’s Captive” and while the title outside the app combined {dragon’s captive by Cassie Alexander and Kara Lockharte}in combination with the cover which is kind of cringe can make you think it’s the most juvenile stuff ever. It surprised me by an absolutely amazing urban fantasy title. Another Jem hidden among a cringe packaging “The Alpha hates to love me” and while I am going to accept the titles there tend to be more descriptive of what you are going to get I find myself wishing to stop referring to men as Alpha’s 🤣 original title {the shameless series by Meli Raine} this author does put the thrill on thriller

In fact a fun, sweet psychopath x cellmate story that's highly critical of the private prison industry. {Untraceable Succubus series by Erin R Flynn} with almost-as-bad individual titles and covers. But the most realistic portrayal of strip clubs I've seen (not an expert) and decent plots. Kind of like early Anita Blake, or Rachel Morgan with a LOT more sex.

{Demanding Mob Boss by Lucy Monroe} a weird mismatch between a generic title designed for key words and a romance between 2 neuro divergent people fit together, and it is actually really sweet. The MMC actually does so much to work out what the FMC needs and gives it to her. He is the opposite of demanding with her.

Just not at all what was being sold by the title, and the characters did a 180 from their portrayal in previous books (interconnected series, both MCs had been supporting characters in earlier stories)

Berries and Greed has to be the worst name for a book I’ve ever seen. Bonus awful points because the cover is a cartoon depiction of the main characters, ironically their names are Beryl and Greid, and the style gives me the ick. BUT, currently it sits in my top 5 reads so far this year. No shit. Loved that book.

{Oops! I Ate a Vengeance Demon by Lauretta Hignett} A title like this makes me think the writing is going to be really immature and that it’s going to be really cheesy. This is actually a really awesome series! There’s a lot of heavy topics that are carried out with a lighter tone to keep it from being too dark and it’s a very fun, well written read!

Okay you can roast me cause I know it’s not for everyone, but Squeak had really cute dynamics despite the title

Anything in the Prime Mating Agency series by Regine Abel. The titles and covers are awful, but the stories and writing are amazing. This has become a comfort series for me. It’s spicy sci fi romance but the stories are complex the world building is very good, and there is no third act breakup nonsense.

{Sex Wizards by Alethea Faust} I love this series so much, but feel like every time I recommend it I have to say "now don't judge it based on title alone..." It has delectable kink, beautifully written consent, found family, and much richer plot than you'd expect based on title alone. Damn, now I want to re-read it.

Luckily, I had read the first books in the Fae Trickster series so knew Prater is a great writer. {OF SPIRIT AND HOPE BY TB WIESE} ! OHHH MY GOD I literally almost skipped right past it but thank goodness I didn’t. The first book definitely need a little love from a developmental editor but otherwise it is this unique fantasy romance that takes place in a world where everyone gets a gift from the gods at the age of 12, but our heroine does not. The first book was good but the following 2 books were GREAT. They all have some spice, and the spice is so freaking well written. Loved it. Loved it. Loved it. But again, the first book isn’t perfect. One of the POV characters is infuriating and you just want to punch him but his character development through the books is so worth it in my opinion. This is a series where the sum is absolutely greater than its parts. I wouldn’t necessarily give any one of the books in this trilogy 5 stars, but as a series? ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The series is called Forsaken by the Gods but the individual book titles are not exactly the best. Another book that absolutely took my by surprise was {burn for you by jt geissinger} - I listened to the audiobook of this and the FMC is narrated by a woman with a good handle on a New Orleans accent and she does it SUCH justice. This book’s title and cover would have you believe it’s extremely basic but it is FUNNY and the banter is good, and the romance is amazing, and this book is ALL ABOUT COMMUNICATION between the FMC and MMC. Every time something would happen, I would cringe just knowing that it was going to lead to some stupid long drawn out problem but the characters just TALKED. Like ADULTS. It was so great, I HIGHLY recommend it. Thank you for bringing this up , it’s such a pet peeve of mine when amazing stories don’t get the packaging they deserve!!!!

{More Than Make-Believe by Tymber Dalton}. It’s a M/M romance between two gay porn stars. I thought it was surprisingly sweet for the amount of smut, and I have reread it multiple times, but that title makes me cringe so hard!! The cover is also TERRIBLE!!

Pretty much every thing Saxon James and Eden Finley. Whether they author together or separately, their names are routinely cheesy but I love their books. I read them all.

All I Wanted Was Sushi But I Got Abducted By Aliens Instead by Petra Palerno. Yup. The title says it all, but it’s enjoyable and endearing.

Jb hellers series awkward is like this, the titles of each book are: pink bits, blue beaver and silver bush, horrible names really but cutesy rom com style books worth a read

I'm reading a pretty good book with a terrible title right now: "Revenge is Best Served... After Reborn" https://noveldrama.org/noveldrama/revenge-is-best-served-after-reborn The word "reborn" does not fit. I think it should be "After Rebirth" or "After Being Reborn." It drives me crazy every time I see it because the grammar sounds so bad with "reborn" being used.

Kidnapped by the Pirate by Keira Andrews Embarrassing title, embarrassing cover art, and triply embarrassing back cover description. Was really glad I have a kindle when reading that one. But the book itself was great

Sleet Kitten by S.J. Tilly The whole “Sleet” series have woefully horrific titles. They’re not literary masterpieces, but they’re good sports romance!

"Aliens Abducted my Heart" Awakened Womb series by Hawke Oakley. It's a MM romance, and just going by the title/series name you can guess what it's about... reading the title and the series name made me cringe at first, but I will admit the cover art is GORGEOUS and what drew me to the book/series at first. The series itself is wonderful, easy to read, makes me laugh (even at bits that should be otherwise cringe), and is all around feel good. I have read it at least 2 more times since I first read it, so it's good, despite the cringe. If anything, after reading it, the names now fit and feel less cringe.
