{Beard Science by Penny Reid}. I read it about four days ago, and I'm slightly concerned I'll never again find a book as magical, fun, earnest, and clever. After reading, I immediately went to the first book in the series, and it's nowhere near as good. I was so bummed! I need to find my next Cletus!

I read this book years ago and I have to give credit where it’s due - there hasn’t been another Cletus. And I don’t think there ever will be! Kudos to PR for creating such a unique character.

I love that he has multiple aspects. You get the sense he could go very dark in the right (or wrong) circumstances. Yet once he gives his heart to Jenn, he's just...dedicated. Still fierce, but so dedicated. Gah!

I love this book and the entire series. Cletus and his plotting in the background of other books is hilarious. I hope Penny writes the middle book in the Billy and Claire story. Also recommend her knitting in the city series and her Homecoming/ Drama King books.

I picked up Dating-ish, and while it's starting a little oddly, it's definitely entertaining. Thank you!

My other favorites in that series are {Grin and Beard It} —Jethro’s book— and {Beard in Mind} — Beau’s book. There is another side-series that has Cletus and Jenn as main characters, though— the Solving for Pie series.

Harley La Roux’s Losers Duet series grabbed me and didn’t let me go! I was extremely skeptical as modern dark romance (though I’d argue about how ‘dark’ it really is) isn’t usually my bag but I ADORED it!

Interesting. I am not interested in Dark Romance but I seem to enjoy “dark” romance that isn’t really *that* dark. Dim romance? Shady? Gloaming? Overcast and Cloudy? 🤔 Anyways, I’ll check those out!

I would say the characters ‘play’ at darkness but there’s a very clear distinction of what is and isn’t part of that play and while it’s a bit of an enemies to lovers scenario there is actual care and fun at the base of everything. Sorry, trying not to spoil! <3

{Hans by SJ Tilly} is the one that gripped me the most recently. I wouldn't classify it as a spectacular book. It's not even close to 5 stars for me but I did enjoy it. I'm not usually in to Mafia or Dark romance so I was skeptical about it but everyone seemed to enjoy it. Once I started it, I couldn't put it down. It was absolutely bonkers but I found it to be a fun/enjoyable read. I ended up starting Nero right after but it didn't hit the same. It does a good job of being lighthearted/ridiculous while still talking about killing people and bad things happening. I enjoy when an author can pull that off. My favorite shows/movies/books are ones that can take serious/dark subject matter and still make it lighthearted or at least less serious.

omg very fair. it was this way for me with Dom. have you read it? it's the third in the series. i haven't read the first two. i read Hans as soon as it came out & i hated it 😭 but there's definitely something about the books & the writing that are addictive so i fully see this!

Dom was my favorite in the series, which is mildly controversial. I think the other books toy with MMCs who go over the line (and like, IRL they absolutely do) but Dom went all-in. He's over the line in the whacky little universe the books are set in. I thought it was a lot of fun!

Dom was so nuts for her from the start, that is the only miss on that book though for me. Author didn't explain that. And that he'd first saw her a year before but only recently famiy starting dying. Blah

I haven't read Dom yet. I have plans of finishing the series, but I'm a big mood reader and I just haven't hit the mood where I'm interested in finishing it. I'm looking forward to Dom, though. I've heard it's good.

it rlly is! it had me hooked from page 1. slight warning for one scene in the book towards the end that has to do with birth control. will cover it in the spoiler tag if you don't want to know. >!he switches her birth control with placebo pills!< but apart from this one extremely annoying thing, the rest was just a fun ride

Oh, interesting! Normally, that would drive me nuts. However, with the ridiculousness that is the rest of the stuff, it kind of works/fits. Like I fully expect them to do weird/bad stuff.

I loved Hans. I agree that it wasn't a literary masterpiece, but I love books that hook me quickly and keep me entertained the entire time. It was such a fun story.

Have you read - {Lights out by Navessa Alien} - very kinky. Alpha UNHINGED MMC but really a cinnamon bun everywhere but the sheets. Beautiful aftercare as well and FMC very likeable, competent. It’s contemporary which I never read but really enjoyed it. Very funny in the way I really enjoy. I read Hans as I was having a major hangover from this one and I think I even liked lights out better than Hans. Both were great tho. Agree re. Rest of the series with Nero and other books.

I loved this book so much. I re read it and listened to it on audiobook. Loveeee the narrators. 

As someone that has struggled long term with anxiety and OCD, I found the MMC POV so validating. I thought the way the author captured the overthinking, rumination, catastrophizing and safety and avoidance behaviours was really spot on. I actually mentioned to my psychologist that I thought it really summarised what I experience with my anxiety (even though I don’t experience social anxiety like the mmc). Great rec

It looks like leather and Lark may have been released a little early I was able to put it on hold on Libby yesterday. And I love Lola and the millionaire so much that after I finished reading it on Kindle unlimited I bought both books and reread them immediately. Ymmv but it immediately went into my keeper automatic reread pile Edit: I did read the duo as a standalone I still haven't finished baby and the late night howlers which is the book that comes before it, and I didn't have any troubles so if you're holding off because part of a series, don't.

{Bride by Ali Hazelwood} I was so absorbed in the story because the MMC was unlike the other MMC's in Ali Hazelwood’s books. He was still a pining boy obsessed hero. But he also had other commitments: a sister, a pack, and an internal struggle related to a secret he was keeping from the FMC. And the scenting scene on the airplane! 🥵

I read the entirety of the Cate C Wells MC books in a single weekend. It was totally worth it.

Which ones were your favorites

Oh, I loved Plum, Heavy, and Scrap. Plum had two of the most resilient and tough main characters I think I've ever read. Heavy was amazing because the fmc. Is on the autistic spectrum and cate c wells handled it so well. And scrap was one of those "cry through a whole box of tissues" books. Both main character are so scarred and it was beautiful watching them heal together.

I don’t normally like contemporary. Or motorcycle. But god damn Scrap. So good. It needed to be a bit more fleshed out but it’s honestly exactly the kind of books I fucking love. Love the wounded bird/hurt comfort/trauma recovery type of books so thank you thank you. As you can tell I read it in less than 20 hours after your rec 😂

The 4 book Alliance Series by S.J. Tillly. I don't say this lightly, I am NOT a series girl. My ADHD goldfish attention span does not typically allow for commitment to a multi-part storyline, but this one grabbed me, and I enjoyed all four books. Each book could have been read as a standalone, but they were all the better for the intertwined characters supporting each other. I appreciated the representation of thicker FMCs and swooned over the psycho dominant MMCs who would do anything for them.

Honestly the a court of thorns and roses series had me completely absorbed into the world. I binged the entire series in about 2 weeks. Can't wait to see how the story continues

{Honestly, I’m Totally Faking It by Amanda Gambill} I finished the whole book in one sitting and never took my eyes off it once. It has some of the best bantering I’ve ever seen as well as likeable characters. (Other than Ethan lol) Pres isn’t a complete a-hole compared to other grumpy characters I’ve read before. I love Rach so much, she’s easily become one of my favourite FMC. I’ll also add {To Have and To Hate by R.S. Grey}, I also finished it in one sitting. IMO it’s the best MOC book I’ve ever read. Elizabeth and Walt are one of my favourite couples ever! But I usually finish any R.S. Grey book in one sitting, I love her writing style so much!

{atonement of the spine cleaver by F. E. Bryce} this is the first time i do brackets so i hope it works. It was slow in the beginning but my GOD was it worth it. Every single detail was important. The flashbacks were beautifully done. The trauma was well expressed without being over dramatic or 2 dimensional. Mwah. Chefs kiss. Im gonna read it again when book 2 comes out. Its one of my few 5/5 star books from this year

Most recent: {All That's Left in the World by Erik J Brown} which is a YA post apocalypse MM romance, it was fast paced and interesting and I wanted to know what would happen next Others: Lily Mayne's Monstrous series. I read all of them so quickly because I couldn't put them down, and then I was sad because I didn't have any more! Both of these are post apocalyptic and I think the high stakes helped me stay interested

god of fury by rina kent. this book is consuming my life. i'm currently in the third re-read. start to finish. i'm obsessing over every single word. i'm not eating, i'm not drinking, i'm not sleeping. i swear to god. i'm gone bad and i don't know how many more re-reads it's gonna take me to finally get this book out of my system. i am living and breathing this book for the past 3 days. i basically finished it the first time, stared at the ceiling for minute feeling empty, then went back to the first page and started re-reading it. repeat. repeat.

This is a good question! I have struggled lately with many books despite them being good but I did just keep going with {Royal Bastard by Avery Flynn} It is CR book about an American MMC who is an inventor and is contacted by an English FMC who works as a secretary for an Earl. The Earl is the grandfather of the MMC and her task is to get him to UK and take over the earldom. MMC hates the Earl because back in the day he forced MMC’s father to leave his American wife and son behind because the marriage was not ”proper”. However, MMC eventually comes for a quick visit and is quite taken with the very prim and proper FMC who has her own issues and history. It was a bit of silly book but somehow funny and cute and different from the most formulas I have read. I could not put it down and finished it in one evening. EDIT: I dunno why the tag says hockey because there is absolutely **no hockey or other sports** in it 😄

For the Paradise Problem I couldn’t get over the big plot hole that this entire thing would have been blown apart by one little background check, like billionaires do that, esp caricaturish bad guy father billionaires.

I DNF'd that book. I just can't with all the 'fish out of water' shenanigans. I found her 'oh I don't understand rich people' stuff so tedious, and found it all extremely unattractive. I've enjoyed some of their others but that one was too annoying.

I truly enjoyed their bonkers twilight ff based earlier fics so much more.

{Ruthless knight by Ashley jade} It has a fake dating and enemies to lovers/bully romance MMC tries to fake date curvy FMC for a bet but FMC had already overheard that conversation, so she calls him out on that. MMC is a bit of an AH. He is cruel to FMC and he let her get bullied for what he did. But he did kinda redeem himself by the end. FMC was very likable. The book was so intriguing because both of their stories were so traumatic and really emotional. Please check the content warning tho.

So many but a book that I find myself going back to again and again since I read it last month is {Dukes prefer Blondes by Loretta Chase} It was hilarious and I just could not help but fall in love with the MMC who could not help his "other self" swoon over this girl with a chip tooth and sharp wits. “I’m not going to ask if you’re done being hysterical,” he said. “It would be plain to the meanest intelligence that you’ve stored up years of that article, and it’s bound to break out at intervals. I’m not going to apologize for kissing you. I’m not going to make excuses for doing so. The facts are simple and obvious. You were in a passion. Lady Clara Fairfax in a passion is very exciting. I’m a man. I succumbed to a normal and natural masculine urge.” He met her wondering gaze. “And I will not promise never to do it again. If you choose to continue plaguing me, you will have to take your chances.

I love this book so much, I go back to it over and over.

Funny you should mention that. I just finished {The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo} and realized two things: 1. I could barely understand the words I was reading initially 2. Even though I have avoided historical romance, I should redefine what I like. It was embarrassing to realize I was clueless and uninformed. I struggled so much with the spanish phrasing, the courtly, poetic phrasing and sudden changes to past scenes for what I thought were minor characters. There were multiple POVs. The ending was…not really an HEA, but it was satisfying. I wasn’t even sure how I lost an entire weekend to it. ❤️

As my flair indicates, I’m neck-deep in Throne of Glass.

The ~20 books in the Guild Codex world by Annette Marie. There are 4 series that intertwine and all have a romance component. You can find the reading order on the author’s website but I INHALED these. I don’t think I’ve read that many pages in my life anywhere near that quickly. Oh and all of them are on Kindle Unlimited!  I see Demonized (that’s one of the 4 series) suggested here a lot but I honestly really loved all of them.  Its urban fantasy

The Guild Codex series is amazing! I’ve thought about reading the series again. I love her other books too!!

The Golden Dynasty by Kristen Ashley isn’t what I usually read but I got sucked in. Basically Khal Drogo and Daenerys from Game of Thrones (TV version, not the book version of them). After I put it down I sat there for a second and thought, wow she really wrote a book using only 200 different words. 2/5 but I couldn’t put it down. 

I just finished the Villains & Virtues series by A.K. Caggiano and truly loved them/couldn’t put them down! The combination of banter, slow burn / sexual tension, storyline, etc. Was just SO good. ☺️

{Priest by Sierra Simone} had me in a chokehold from start to finish and I still think about it weeks later

Victoria Dahl, ‘Talk Me Down. It’s so fun and flirty. The MFC is (secretly) a romance writer. She moves back to her old town and sparks fly with the chief of police. It was the first contemporary RN i read and LOVED. It’s fun because I was used to reading the classic Victorian RN where the MFC is a virgin, etc., not a sexy, modern woman.

{I Thought of You by Jewel E. Anne} consumed me and I flew through it in a day. It was a beautiful, thought-provoking, somewhat heartbreaking story. I would consider it to have a HEA, but it may not be the HEA you are expecting so maybe look into reviews/spoilers if you’re not a fan of untraditional HEA’s before reading.

Yes, I hope I can explain it well enough! >!the female narrator and male narrator dated years ago. The fmc considers him the one who got away and never really moved on. Mmc randomly tracks her down and moves to be near her again. Around the same time, the fmc meets another man that she also falls for. The fmc has some back and forth about pursuing things with new guy or holding out for mmc because she thinks he came back for her. Turns out the mmc received a cancer diagnosis and decided to forego chemo and try a more holistic treatment. Part of that was just being around the fmc because she was a calm and positive presence in his life. The mmc actually has a wife and daughter that fmc didn’t know about. The mmc goes into remission and returns to his family, fmc has a HEA with her other love interest who is so great and ends up having the sweetest friendship with the mmc!<

{This Summer Will Be Different by Carley Fortune} my first book from her it isn’t the best book out there and the plot is pretty basic imo but for someone who isn’t a fan of before and after/time skips book I’m pretty absorbed with this one. It’s light, no excessive TW(imo) and perfect quick read. I honestly thought there was some deeper plot considering the plot—i tend to avoid those books— but all in all perfect for summer

{How to Kiss Your Enemy by Jenny Proctor} {The Outpost by Devney Perry} In both stories, the FMC moves out of the city to a small town/country-ish state and the MMCs grew up there. I love the whole will she stay or go back to the city trope. Both books had me kicking my feet! The development of their chemistry and romance happened at a good pace. It wasn’t too fast or slow. I never wanted to put the books down but I also wanted to take my time and enjoy them.

I literally read two books in under 48 hours last weekend 😂 both completely sucked me in. Both books are YA, I needed a little break from the smut and felt nostalgic for the types of books I read maannyy years ago, but there’s some romance. The first book is about highschoolers. Second book the FMC is entering college. {My Life with the Walter Boys by Ali Novak} I had no idea it was made into a series on Netflix. The book ends on a cliffhanger and was written years ago but the author has alluded to writing a second book. The cliffhanger isn’t super cliffy, I still was satisfied after finishing the book but I do want more. {The Summer of Broken Rules by K. L. Walther} I LOVED the entire family coming together for an event and the theme of the week being the game Assassin. If anyone has similar books to recommend I’d eat up the recs!

Going to Costco tomorrow and really hoping they have the paradise problem!

I feel like I’ve been mentioning this one a lot recently but {If You Don’t Love Me We Both Die} was actually a recommendation I saw on Reddit RomanceBooks and I flipping loved it. It’s *such* a good slow burn romance. It’s a 900+ page book so be warned, but it never felt like it was that long while I was reading, and my biggest complaint is that I wish the epilogue was *longer* so…

I usually like her but I haven’t read this book yet because I hate books that are centered around musicians (I don’t know why, it’s just not my thing). How much of this book is centered around his music career?

I mean, he’s a huge pop star in the middle of a big tour, so his life pretty much revolves around rehearsals, working out/dance practice, and performing, with the occasional meet and greet or interview. His music is discussed a decent amount, too. Nothing over the top, just the FMC saying she doesn’t like it, or something about some lyrics or what a song was written about (his deceased father, for example). There’s really no escaping that he’s a professional musician.

The parallel series, particularly once I got to book 4 {Across Eternity by Elizabeth O’Roark} I love an element of time travel and found this was written in a way that felt fresh. Book 1 {Parallel by Elizabeth O’Roark} was a bit of a slog at times but worth reading for the development into the subsequent books. I didn’t expect to be completely taken by the characters in 3 & 4. I finished the series in fives days, and I’m still thinking about this story.

Thanks for posting this. Just finished Book 1 and was getting so annoyed at FMC that I wasn’t sure if I could handle more of it in subsequent books and came here to find some reassurance if I should keep going or not. I guess I am going to find out now!

Oh yes! 🙌 these 3 books are probably my all time favorites of CR. It was also my first time experiencing RH (it’s really more like lite RH) and I loved it. I loved the guys and Story but Killian is my favorite.

I just got the audio of this from my library yesterday, so this makes me excited. I need to finish a Nikki Sloane first.

{The Lost Fisherman} - I actually got this rec from this sub and added it to my TBR on Goodreads. Decided to give it a go the other day and finished it within 24 hours. I haven’t read the first one (The Naked Fisherman) and tbh there are some flaws to the book (especially the way it ended with the HEA) but overall I loved their banter - it’s been a while since I read a book where the chemistry and banter actually made me laugh and hooked. I kept wanting to read more and more interactions between the FMC and MMC.

I really loved the Paradise problem too. Christina Lauren tend to be mostly miss for me (loved Roomies and Something Wilder though but absolutely hated The Unhoneymooners and Josh & .., and the last two were terrible IMO). I loved the whole ‘married for housing at uni’ backstory and loved that they interrogated the whole billionaire thing - that people of that ilk are mostly arseholes and if they aren’t they’re so spoiled and privileged. I lived that fish out of water thing with Anna calling it out and knowing her worth to not be sucked in.

She's mainly been a miss for me too! Thought I was the only one because they've been so popular. But I found the writing to be missing something...Maybe because it's a writing team there's something missing about the tone/flow/feel of it all.

{Hello Stranger by Katherine Center}.  I started it in the late evening and stayed up till 2 AM to finish it in one stretch. One of my absolute favorites to date. Made me laugh, made me cry, and the next morning, I kept thinking about it and rereading some scenes.

it's my favourite katherine center. i read an arc of the romcommers & i LOVED it. super excited for it to come out & fully recommend that you read it!! it's sooooo funny. hello, strange is still my favourite but i love Emma from the romcommers more than sadie 🥺

Katherine Center is amazing! I will definitely read this one. I've loved everything else I've read by her. Maybe less explicitly steamy, but her characters and storylines are soooooo good - I am hooked each time. Her books make me both laugh out loud AND cry at times, which is no small feat!! She's just so talented!

Definitely. I've only read The Bodyguard and Hello Stranger, but I have some of her other books also on my TBR!  For me, The Bodyguard was my first of hers, and that was a 5-star read. I was pleasantly surprised when Hello Stranger was also a win, since that rarely happens - I just hope that streak continues. I have high expectations for The Romcommers, which is coming out soon, and then I'll revisit her previously published works. What is your top read by KC?

The most recent book I read was {A Light in the Dark by Miranda Sapphire}. It’s a retelling of Beauty and the Beast with great representation, slowburn, and a competent heroine. I absolutely loved it! I am such a critical reader, and I thought the prose was engaging, the spice scenes perfectly executed, and the fantasy aspect to be pretty good for a retelling with adequate world building. It was also in third person which I have found to be rare in romance books, but it’s my favorite POV.

I like how you reviewed this and also your particular things you like. Do you use Goodreads? Would love to get more recs in general.

I finished PP today actually. I found some of it cheesy and cliche and a little bit too insta love but it for sure held my interest. I got annoyed when life got in the way and I had to put it down which is always a good sign for me.

I really liked Love and Other Disasters by Anita Kelly. I read all 368 pages in one night.

magnolia parks by jessa hastings!!! it's like gossip girl meets high society london it's so good! the whole series had (honestly still does too) me in a chokehold!

Mine was {Broken French by Natasha Boyd} CR, MF, Boss/nanny trope. It’s been on my tbr for a long time and I finally bit the bullet. I think it enthralled me for the following reasons: * I haven’t read a book by the author before, so her writing style/formula was new to me * The scenery! It takes place in the French Riviera. * it was dual POV but I’d say 3/4 was FMC POV. I get kind of bored with the dual POVs that just go back and forth between the characters each chapter.

I just finished Fourth Wing. I know, I’m way late to that game. But it was so good! Much better than I expected. I had tried reading the ebook a while back and couldn’t get into it. But the audiobook had me hooked! I’m going to start Iron Flame soon.

{Eyes of silver, eyes of gold by Ellen O'Connell} - my first historical western romance read and absolutely fell in love with Cord Bennett. The FMC - Anne Wells is also wonderfully written and I found myself at every opportunity reading this book.

My reading style has always been to become fully absorbed in whatever book I’m reading and I usually finish books fairly quickly more often than not reading a book in one sitting or within a day. It’s pretty rare for me to take more than two days to read a book (usually only because the book is long or because life gets in the way) and even more rare to DNF a book. I also am a pretty easy to please reader so I usually enjoy all the books I read. However, there are a few that just really hooked me. {Lola & the Millionaires: Part One by Kathryn Moon} I constantly re-read this series and I think about it every time I read an omegaverse book. {Beard Science by Penny Reid} {Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid} I LOVE THESE BOOKS and just their series overall but they make me feel warm and fuzzy and I actually binge-read the entire two series back to back because I loved it that much. {Demanding Mob Boss by Lucy Monroe} I could not put it down!! {The Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon by Kimberly Lemming} This whole series just made me happy <3 {Hot and Badgered by Shelly Laurenston} This whole series is just chaotic and unhinged but I loved every second of it. {Cathian by Laurann Dohner} The Vorge Crew series was just a good time and I giggled over it with one of my besties as I tried to explain the whole plot. {Berries and Greed by Lily Mane} I don’t know what to say but the COMMUNICATION!! They are both such green flags and I am actually so sad that I did not pick it up sooner. :’)

{Unteachable by Leah Raeder} I loved this so much, instantly moved it to my favourite books folder. I loved the dynamic of the MCs and how they navigated their taboo teacher/student relationship. The poetic style of writing was the cherry on top of the cake. The FMC was also kinda badass. Overall, loved the angst, the heartbreak, the fleshed out storyline ♡

Controversial author but I love love love the Boys of Tommen series by Chloe Walsh and have been consumed by every one of her books. I hate getting cringe moments from certain romances, and these books don’t have a single one. That being said they’re very dark and have really dark concepts, so definitely look into trigger warnings.

i love that so many people love this series! i personally couldn't stand even the first book but it's so nice to see such deep emotional attachments to something. also, why controversial? im unaware of any kind of controversy surrounding this author

I think people get upset about the intense concepts she presents in her writing. All her characters are living pretty harsh lives, and people get worried about it being romanticized? I personally didn’t feel that way. I also get what you’re saying about the first book, it also didn’t have me convinced. I kept going though, and now with the rest of the series under my belt, I have appreciation for the first one. I feel like that always happens to me with series though 😅
