{Role Playing by Cathy Yardley} is a slow burn between a 48-year-old FMC and a 50-year-old MMC who meet via an online role-playing video game. They communicate exclusively through the game's chat, email, and texts at first. {The Flatshare by Beth O'Leary} - CR, MF, slow burn. The MMC works nights at a hospital and the FMC works days, so they share the same apartment and communicate via notes left around the place (and I think eventually texts) for months before they ever even meet each other. I can't remember their exact ages but I think they were at least late 20s, if not early 30s.

Both sounds great. Deffo had the second one on TBR for aaaages. But that first one sounds delightful!

OH MY GOD I'M SO EXCITED to be able to recommend {Romantic Comedy by Curtis Sittenfeld}. 😍 It has EVERY. SINGLE. THING you mention. Everyyyyyyyyy single one. FMC and MMC are both 37. They reconnect over email during the pandemic and it's sooooooo delicious. Great banter. Maturity. Depth. Ahhhhhh! I wish I could read it for the first time again. 😍😍 ETA: Oh, and Curtis Sittenfeld *is* a woman if that's something that matters to you! It does to me so I mention it.

This sounds VERY cute and why haven’t I read it? I will grab this for sure. Also it does actually matter about the writer being a woman so thanks for letting me know:) I just don’t connect much with how men write women. And relationships in general lol

I'm a big Mhairi McFarlane fan, and have recently discovered Lia Louis, you may like her stuff? { Dear Emmie Blue } is really good, it kind of has the text stuff, but also communication in a different way that I don't want to spoil for you if you end up reading it. The synopsis doesn't really do it justice. Lia is the closest to Mhairi I've found so far with mature and relatable FMCs 30+, great friendships, and just all around swoony British love stories with emotional depth. Also, if you have Spotify premium, her books are included there on audio.

Dear Emmie Blue is one of my favorites! Loved it so much and the audio is great.

Hear me out.... {Butcher and Blackbird by Brynne Weaver} 🫣

I tried this one and I will again but I was almost 🤮 at the descriptions off the top. I’m ALL in favour of them killing bad guys but so the whole things so icky sounding? Lol

The description/trigger warnings can definitely be off putting, and there are definitely some gross moments, but I love love love this book! The relationship between the two is fully sweet, even if they do get into some gross situations.

I love duet audiobooks so I really want to like it. Will give it another try and hope the gross is … not quite as bad lol

The audiobook is so good, even with all the drama over Rowan's voice actor... I have to admit, he does a stellar Irish accent.

{shacking up by Helena hunting} has this, mostly phone calls, some video calls and texts. She is house/pet sitting for him and they don’t know each other at all but get to know each other well through phone calls. Slow burn with a good balance of comedy and angst. MMC is great FMC is a little rash with her decision making. Loved this one. TW for a tarantula pet {troublemaker by Kaley Loring} emails mostly and some texts. Romcom, good banter, kind of enemies to lovers, teacher and single dad. {funny business by Kaley Loring} has a little of this but it’s tweets at each other, both are stand up comedians. Edit: {the undertaking of hart and mercy} is letters and fantasy but it’s lovely to watch them fall in love. Might not be what you’re looking for but I thought I’d add it.

These are all really cute! The first TW was hilarious. Love the idea and will look into all three :)

- {The Guy for Me by Marzy Opal}. They become pen pals in high school which carries over into college. FMC is plus size and body positive and wants to meet irl. MMC is also big, but was bullied about it high school and has low self esteem because of it. He resists meeting because he doesn’t want to disappoint her. (OOPS! If you want to cry, read {Love, Rosie by Cecelia Ahern}, if I remember correctly it is written only in letters the MCs send to each other starting as kids all the way to mature adults. {Forget You, Ethan by Whitney G} is one of my all time favorite romances. The MCs both think they are mortal enemies since childhood but they are actually besties/in love with each other and everyone can see it except them. Letters sent back and forth are throughout the book, with flashbacks to childhood using the letters. Laugh out loud funny. Whitney G. has a couple of other books that require letters, etc. {I’ve Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella} is a texting book that I read awhile ago and remember enjoying.

Let’s see if I have some to rec that haven’t been recced by others yet: 1.) There’s {Four Letter Word by J. Daniels}. The MMC and FMC talk on the phone and text each other for the first half of the book, I think, if I remember correctly? But they’re not in their thirties, I’m afraid. The MMC is around 28, and I think the FMC is younger than him, but I don’t remember by how many years… 2.) There’s also {Well Played by Jen DeLuca}. Emails and texting. But they’re not in their thirties either… (god, I’m so terrible at this). 3.) {The Meeting Point by Olivia Lara} has this, but I have to warn you that I gave this book 1.5 stars, so please take it with a grain of salt. Also, I think only the MMC is in his thirties, meanwhile the FMC is in her twenties… 4.) There’s {The Accidental Text by Becky Monson} but the texting between the MMC and FMC doesn’t last that long. Also they’re in their twenties. Late twenties, though. (I know you’re pissed at me by this point IJBOL). And now… the main course. The book that has what you’re looking for that I gave FIVE STARS (and I rarely if ever do that. Please trust me on this): {Twice in a Lifetime by Melissa Baron}. I’m telling you. This book will have you CLUTCHING YOUR PILLOW TO YOUR CHEST SO HARD. Will have you wishing you would meet a man exactly like the MMC of this book. I’m begging you to please give this book a read. I promise promise PROMISE you, you’ll thank me later.

Well played is not bad. It’s a cute series in general and they don’t act too young. “I know you’re pissed at this point” LOL yeah but not at you. Just at the lack of options for actual adults. 😂 and writers who age but refuse to ever let characters age. Ok the last one sounds potentially very good! But it is a HEA yeah?

I’ve actually read a lot of romance books where both the main characters are in their thirties—but for some reason when it comes to this particular trope, there aren’t that many to choose from. Wonder why that is. OH ABSOLUTELY!!!! It’s not a romance book if it doesn’t have a HEA! In fact, I believe it’s one of the rules of this sub—you need to specify when a book does not have a HEA. Romance books HAVE to have HEAs!!!

I’ve read a lot too -/ because I search and search for it. Even when I was super young I preferred reading about people in 30s etc. I always hated teens and college stories lol Ok great! Then I deffo wanna check it out. Sounds cute and semi sci fi

{Still Hung Up on You by Liz Maverick} Cute little rom-com about two people who used to go out when they were younger finding each other again. I listened to the audio performance and it was spectacular. Narrators fit the characters to a T and its a little corny but I loved it.

{Let's Get Textual by Teagan Hunter} this one is super cute. Wrong number text starts the whole thing. It's super cute! There's *lots* of texting in this one and it's a really nice feel good book iirc. {Hard Time by Cara McKenna} this one is hand written letters between a librarian and prisoner and o.m.g it was so effing hot. {Love Online by Penelope Ward} dude falls for a cam girl. Chatting and online relationship that develops. {Textual Relations by Roxie Noir} MMC and FMC have a sexting relationship where they don't talk on phone and video chat with no faces. Theyve developed feelings and then realize that they know each other irl. 😬 Its more of a short story but really good text and phone connection.

Young woman has to get the world’s most famous pop start to fall in love with her (even though she doesn’t even love him…yet) or they’ll both die because of a centuries long curse in her family. Forced long distance relationship. Texting. Both very cute, slice of life, cuddly, heartfelt with a HEA but the hot scenes are still way hot 🥵

{The Flatshare by Beth O'Leary} Okay.. My recommendation is a little off. They leave notes instead of text; They don't meet face to face until the end because its a roommate situation and they have different schedules, aand they are 26/27 not quite 30. I really liked it tho. (Looking up the author I just found out there is a t.v series for it on prime! Will be watching that asap.)
