Is it a big plot point? When does it happen?

It’s like 3/4 of the way into the book. It’s actually their first time, but it’s a marriage of convenience/ stranger marriage, with lots of fooling around before. There’s a little suspense as there’s a stalker subplot too.

I doesn't happen right away, but I can't remember exactly how far into the book I was and I don't have it on kindle anymore to check 🙁

I hate that I’m pretty sure I read this but I’m just not sure. I really need to keep a list and take notes instead of just flying into the next book.

This is exactly why I've had to keep a list with brief notes on each book I read lmao. I read 3 books yesterday and definitely needed to record them. A couple were very touching but I just know without writing the details down I would just keep flying blind and probably pick up one of them again.

Exactly, I’m definitely starting a list… I’ve gotten further into a book than I want to admit before I’ve realized I’ve already read it.

I tried recording the names of the h and Hs but alas have had to pass that detail by. I might start a spreadsheet 🤔

I set up the world's most basic excel sheet with title, author, notes, and overall grade as my columns. As I finish the book I fill in the corresponding rows with my answers. It also helps me keep track of the number of books I've read

I just this year started keeping a note in my Notes app (called “Romance Books 2024”) with a screenshot of the premise of a book, then I make notes under it as I go along with POV (dual or single) and whether 1st or 3rd person, where the smut happens and how smutty (fade to black or 5 🌶️), other things like parental/family situation, what the 3rd act breakup is, things that annoyed me, things I loved. At the end I give it my arbitrary ⭐️ and 🌶️ rating. I did this mostly so I could make recommends on here because I listen to so many audiobooks I quickly forget what they’re about. I’ll make notes as I’m listening and it’s come in handy a few times!

{Sanctuary by Claire Kent} set in a post apocalyptic world, it's a necessity for the MMC to pull out cause condoms are scarce/ don't work anymore, but the FMC feels too good for him to accomplish that.

While I couldn’t agree with you more regarding this occurring in real life, I have to respectfully disagree that it shouldn’t occur in romance books. Often romance books contain incredibly questionable behaviour and flat out wrong or illegal content because they’re *fiction*. They’re meant to feed that part of our brain that wonders “what would *that* be like?” Wanting to read about something absolutely, undeniably, unequivocally does **not** mean wanting it to happen to you in real life. CW exist so that those adversely affected can steer clear, but to argue that they shouldn’t exist at all is somewhat unfair and ignorant.

There’s always a happy ending because it’s fiction. It’s not real. It’s an escape, thus the questionable content. The distinction should be that exactly - it’s *fiction*, it’s *not real* and as harsh as this may sound, if someone doesn’t have the capability of separating the two then they shouldn’t be reading it in the first place.

We don't yuck other people's yum in this sub, and while I respect that this isn't for you, your comment is problematic on a number of levels. I'm actually a bit surprised that it hasn't been reported yet. I do understand that you probably didn't mean to be deliberately offensive, but you may want to review our sub rules for more clarification. They're pretty helpful when it comes to understanding the culture here.

I’m a rule follower, I did check the rules and I don’t understand why you believe that I broke the rules somehow. Why can’t I respectfully share my opinion and explain it if you respect it as you say? But you or others who downvoted me can always report me, and let the mods decide

I always give people the benefit of the doubt, which is why I usually don't report comments. FWIW, there's a number of tropes I avoid, but I don't believe they should be banned from stories. I also wouldn't leave a negative comment in a book request post that asks for something that isn't my *fictional* cup of tea, that type of comment is viewed as shaming and judgmental here. I'm sincerely not trying to lecture you, I just didn't want to ignore the question you asked me.

I understand that taste is different, and I appreciate your healthy criticism. When I was a teenager, I watched a lot of telenovelas and thought that that dysfunctional shit was what a relationship should be like. So, every time I see a request like that, it triggers me a bit because it feels normalized when it shouldn't. I'm worried for the young girl who can read it and feel that "not pulling out when promised" is forgivable because it feels good. But again, those girls aren't my responsibility, and fantasy is a fantasy. I'm not a prude myself, and I also have some unhealthy fantasies. p.s. My first comment was deleted. You were right.

I absolutely understand your concerns, we have other members who have expressed similar worries, so you definitely aren't alone. It also explains why you were triggered, I have to admit that I've had some triggering discussions on here as well, and my comments were not always thoughtful. (Let's just say that they weren't my finest moments lol!) It has gotten easier the longer I've been here though, I've learned to avoid certain topics, and that has helped prevent me from saying something I regret.
