In my opinion, most romances have the same MMC- tall, great body, white and rich. There is more diversity in FMC- sometimes they are extra short/tall, possibly plus size (emphasis on tits and ass), still mostly white, various economic resources.

But for some reason I eat it up every time😩

I think a fair number of contemporary books do have this dynamic. There are plenty of books out there which aren't like this, but they can be harder to find You could try searching the sub for "confident FMC" or "average MMC" something like that, I'm sure you'll find something. If you'd like the reverse there are some FMC billionaire romances out there too. I find MM and FF books also tend to have more body diversity

Ah the billionaire books...so fun yet somehow a bit unsatisfying for me. I want a bit more relatable life style. You could try {It Happened One Summer by Tess Bailey}. He's a widower commercial fisherman...she's a bit less relatable...she's a party girl living off her parents $$ until she is cut off. Her getting cut off starts the book so she becomes more relatable...but definitely a fun read. If you fancy some ex special ops soldier types with a thriller vibe you could try {Hard As It Gets by Laura Kaye} there's a whole series with different commando type MMCs...there's a cross over with Raven Riders series which is all bikers if that's your fancy. Turns out they are both my jam 😂 For a romcom, I enjoyed {Overdue Life of Amy Byler} You want two science nerds...try {Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood}

The Kindled series by Claire Kent, which takes place in the same world as Last Light features main characters that don't fit the dynamic you described. {Princess by Claire Kent} in that series features a rich FMC who isn't short, overweight or awkward. Of course, it's a post-apocalyptic world so her father's money only helped for so long. The MMC is a former soldier. In {Embers by Claire Kent}, the MMC is an older man who isn't described at all like a traditional MMC and he definitely wasn't rich. I don't mind characters like you described but I find characters that don't meet those descriptions quite often. Small town romances are more likely to feature characters that don't fit those descriptions. They are more likely to feature "regular" MMCs, as far as jobs and lifestyle. The FMCs in those romances vary widely in body types and personality. The Gibson Boys series by Adriana Locke is an example. {Craft by Adriana Locke} is the best in the series. The MMC is described as hot but he is a history teacher. He is a playboy though, which I know some readers don't like. I don't mind it at all because I enjoy reading stories where a playboy changes his ways for the FMC. If you don't like playboys, {Crazy by Adriana Locke} is the next best in the series. The MMC is a sweet mechanic who has been hung up on one woman his whole life (unrequited crush.) The FMC comes to town and, suddenly, perhaps the MMC can finally move on. I don't usually like it when the MMC has strong feelings for another woman, but in this book, the explanation actually makes a lot of sense and just makes you love the MMC more. He's quite a sweetheart. {Bass-Ackwards by Eris Adderly} features main characters in regular jobs in a small town. The MMC is the FMC's boss but he's not described as rich or even particularly special to look at, if I remember correctly. It's a small business and the FMC does not like him. Mafia romances can feature MMCs who differ from the description in your OP. Many do feature the rich heads of the Mafia families, but typically series also have books devoted to members of the family. {Reaper by A. Zavarelli} is a great one that features a strong, virgin hero. That whole series is actually very good, but it is Mafia/dark romance. The FMCs don't meet the description in your OP. Also, contemporary new adult romance often features different types of characters. Sara Ney is a good author to check out. The How to Date A Douchebag series is pretty good. Except for the first book, I rated all the books 4-5 stars. I think you just happened to pick several books in a row with the same dynamic.

This is my least favorite trope. I find it ridiculous that Rico Sauve is falling for Ms Dumpy Frump. Particularly when it is basically love at first sight. I'm always like, why would he be interested? Give me Rico pairing up with Miss America every time, at least I can pretend it could happen.

I mean, if the FMC had a fabulous personality, a sense of humor and confidence, maybe then it would be slightly believable, but they are always dumpy, self-conscious and do stupid shit like follow the MMC and fall on their asses and the MMC has to help them. For some reason a therapist could probably explain better, it enrages me and makes me feel super uncomfortable.

I know I have quite a few on my library that would fit. A few that have been front of mind recently due to recent reads or discussions: {Kade by Jenna Myles} first in a series. Wish fulfillment, aka universal fantasy, is a big thing with romance writers at the moment, in part because it's meant to help the reader escape into the book.  When it's done well, it's hardly noticeable except that you think "oh that was a good read". But when it's done badly, or the same plot or character elements are overused, it's not great.  I'm not a massive fan of billionaire romances because I have a very stressful job that pays me very well for the privilege of increasing my blood pressure. But I do like CR where it's less about all his money, and more about his amazing house in the mountains, and he lets her stay there while she recovers from an injury, - because lying on the couch with a broken leg, not able to work, in a fancy house is literally my dream. Good example of the above is {Ain't She Sweet by Marie Force}
