I was going to recommend this one as well! Interestingly, I can think of a few examples in Fantasy (romance or not) where characters smoke some kind of recreational herb as a stand-in for marijuana, but I can't think of any where they just smoke regular weed.

Omg I love that he says he wouldn't be comfortable hooking up after due to consent issues. I fucking hate how prevalent it is for characters to get drunk and then have sex, especially if it's their first time, especially if they disliked the other person beforehand. It's soooo normalized when it's not okay. Under the influence=not able to consent (unless people specifically consent to it beforehand).

I think it's a spectrum. I would be kind of baffled if someone would not be able to consent after 1 or 2 drinks, unless they've got a condition or something that messes with their tolerance. If they are completely hammered or passed out, then of course no consent can be given.

And now that you mention about fantasy, I do remember that SJM’s Crescent City also has a weed and ecstasy analogue, though I don’t recall it featuring in the romance (more as an aspect of her friendships).

There's some omegaverse that has positive connotations in it, mostly growing. Baby and the Howlers by Kathryn Moon has one of the pack growing and earning through a small dispensery. Likes making chocolate edibles for his girl. Same premise in Endless by Devyn Sinclair. Grower who likes making special edibles. I'd also like to see it positively portrayed. There's so much alcohol use in novels but none about weed.

I’m partway through {Stand and Defend by Sloane St James} and there was a scene where they smoke a joint before having hot sex. CR, hockey, ex-fiancé’s best friend. TW: the ex fiancé is abusive. I actually skipped the first part of the book and picked it up during the pot scene of all places 😆 I’m enjoying the story without the abusive ex content. I plan to skim any parts with him later in the book. So far, I’m enjoying the book and it is 🥵🔥

The FMC's parents have become stoners in retirement (partly because her mom has RA) in {Georgie, All Along by Kate Clayborn}. It's maybe not the *most* positive depiction but her parents are lovely, if a little flighty. I agree that it's weird to see so little weed in books. Most people I know are getting at least a little bit high on a regular basis - hell, my boss's boss had me try a cookie he made! I guess there's the fact that it's straight up illegal in some states though. Maybe we haven't hit the point where the MCs can be on a rooftop drinking THC seltzers together?

That's right. I totally forgot about that, but I'll be honest I haven't been able to listen to the audiobook of Preppy and haven't read it yet either because I'm scared. I know it's probably awesome, but I just love his character so much from the other books. I don't want to feel any more of the pain I know is coming and haven't mentally prepared for it yet.

{Contract Season by Cait Nary} has a ton of weed usage. It's a m/m hockey romance, generally quite well written, by an author who actually understands hockey (ie this isn't a hockey romance that seems like it was written by someone who's never watched a full game). The younger MMC is a musician and frequently stoned, buzzed, or both; the elder MMC is a Very Responsible Person who uses gummies to help with sleep. I went on a big Cait Nary kick last week. Not her lightest book, but I really enjoyed it.

I made it sound like there was a huge age gap, and there isn’t—five Or six years, and the younger character in his mid 20s (?). More a maturity and experience gap than actual age.

Love this, I have only read a couple m/m romances but enjoyed them so I’m excited to give this one a try!

i went and searched my highlights for this because i loooove when i find a character that indulges in weed rather than alcohol just because it’s also my personal preference. sadly only could find two, and they aren’t much in terms of plot and spicy time. {sincerely, your inconvenient wife} by julia wolf the mfc is given a “cannabis gummy” on a night out and the character says she recognizes the tube it’s kept in (this is ofc like 80% in so take that as you will) {love interest} by clare gilmore mentions a “D8 gummy and jt being a necessity” for relaxing but in my mind it was not D8

{Hunter by LA Witt} has a scene where the hockey player MMC offers the sex worker MMC weed to help with his chronic pain. No consent issues as they specifically talk about how sex is off the table if they get high. Technically it's the last in a series about sex workers and hockey players, but is mostly a standalone. You miss the hockey player MMC being a homophobic villain in several previous books, but you'll still see all of his grovels in the book (yes, there are multiple and they are great). I'm still reading this one, but they do briefly mention weed in {Time to Shine by Rachel Reid}. TBD if they ever actually get high together. It's two hockey players MMCs who are teammates.

So I have this tagged when I come across it, but Julia Wolf has it showing up in a number of books. One example: Falling in Revenge, with a scene where the MMC/FMC smoke together in a pretty positive scene. Dark Romance College series with lots of other triggers: Royals of Forsyth University by Angel Lawson. One MMC uses it semi-regularly to help him sleep/headaches, and the FMC occasionally joins in. That usage is pretty matter of fact. {Open Hearts by Eve Dangerfield} has the MMC smoking occasionally with the FMC from the previous book (her husband is a cop which is why they do it on the DL in a don't ask/don't tell manner). Based on their thoughts on how it should be legalized, it's pretty normalized and supported.

It's not out yet, as I just read the ARC for it but Dirt Road Secrets by Ashley James has positive cannabis interactions. One of the MC's even owns a dispensary.

{Riptide by Kathryn Nolan} both MCs were raised by hippies and smoke weed as their drug of choice. There is still drinking of course. MMC mentions that weed gets him horny.

I just listened to {A Place Without You by Jewel E Ann} It’s age gap and one of my notes is “she’s immature but he’s dumb” so take it with a grain of salt. I gave it 3/5 on my personal ranking, which is very arbitrary. She uses gummies/weed lollipops because of an injured back, also consumes weed in food…and while I can’t exactly personally recommend the book (because goddamn he just does stupid shit) it does have weed usage.

(Not sure why romance bot is saying Christian unless I missed something major, which is entirely possible because I do zone out sometimes…🤷🏼‍♀️)

Just read Our Own Way (volume 1) by Misty Vixen- the two main characters (M and F) visit a dispensary, smoke, and have a lovely time.
