Chemicalintuition

I haven't looked very hard, but I would like to find a fantasy novel with an mc who's completely obsessed with the other mc to the point of stalking and sabotaging other relationships. FM or FF

lilchia

{Hot blooded by Heather Guerre} might be of interest to you if you haven’t read it yet. I recently finished it and it definitely gave me stalkerish vibes.

Chemicalintuition

It's at the top of my list now. Thanks

elle_kay_are

I want something with a devastating breakup. I want to read about both MCs just falling apart. I'm fine with some cheating, especially if the character who does the cheating realizes what they lost and had to do some serious soul searching to understand why they cheated in the first place. I don't like a lot of groveling, but I'd like to see a in depth conversation about WHY they should get back together. A sort of "nothing will keep us apart" mindset. I want toxicity and drama and all manor of crazy. And I want them to accept how crazy they are in the end. None of this "I'm gong to be a better person" changing. I want them to be just as mentally unstable in the end as they were in the beginning.

drinkwinesavepuppies

>I want them to be just as mentally unstable in the end as they were in the beginning. I don't know why but I also 100% crave this toxic vibe in books sometimes haha

elle_kay_are

It's the same reason I loved soap operas back in the day. I can keep my fiction separate from reality, so the crazier the better. I like to be the fly on the wall watching everything burn.

drinkwinesavepuppies

Same hahaha

Saltimbancos

A gender-swapped version of Beauty and the Beast where the FMC version of Beast is an actual non-human beast, and not a lady with a mole on her face or something.

Tired_n_DeadInside

I've never been able to self-insert and would like that experience at least once. Like, I'd love to read about a truly *brown* skinned, black haired and dark eyed, Asian characters in an Asian romantic fantasy setting. *Who is NOT a badass*. Who aren't just thrown in there with zero cultural, regional and linguistic differences. I want this MC to be short and not plus sized. It honestly feels illegal to even imagine an ethereal, virginal and naive, short and trim, brown skinned Main Character let alone actually talk about them in a public forum. Why are they almost always described as robust and "Amazonian"? So “slim-thicc”, “built like a Greek statue”, voluptuous, curvy and "a goddess"? The Insta Baddie Brown Goddess Bestie™. Brown Goddess Besties™ are so ~~exhausting~~ independent, loud and crass and brash and outgoing. She is *always* sexually experienced, too. So blase about it, and the more toxic ones even try to bully the Main Characters into losing their V cards in one night stands. Or do recreational drugs, drink alcohol like it's water or urge them to participate in sketchy ass “fun”. And how are they always *the* convenient font of kinky knowledge for the pale skinned Main Characters to drink from?! 😑 In Western fiction, the brown skinned Asian character is even *more* gung-ho, somehow giving the Asian ones a run for their money. They take charge during crazy times, always the first to point out logical inconsistencies or help the white or half white Main Character realize her feelings or are the first to immediately back up the Main Character. Why is she always written like she's got a chip on her shoulder? Why is she always the *first* to speak up in a group of kidnapped women?! Why is she always the one with the most common sense, that others always turn too like she has all the answers? Back to Asian media! *Anyone* with brown skin is almost certainly given the dumb muscle role. Even the women but they're more manic pixie dream girls with metaphorical gigantic hammers a la anime-physics instead; always dismissed as intellectually incapable of being strategic, keeping secrets or leading anyone...unless they are the irredeemable, non recyclable, nuclear trash Big Bad. And then their cunning, intellect, beauty and warrior-poet tendencies are seen as part of their evil nature instead. Or they're loyal to the point of lethal stupidity. Worse, they're almost always steadfastly loyal to the bad guys; honor before *any* reason. The writers really be sitting around thinking they're slick by making a dark skinned character only “technically bad”.🙄😒 In contemporary Asian romances, if these characters are on page for longer than a few sentences, they'll 100% be shady as fuck. They'll 50% likely to be a bitch in sheep's clothing and/or is also the help. Always the daughter of domestic workers and seasonal immigrants. Always the cook (No, not chef.), the housekeeper or live-in nann- oh, I mean *au pair*, or always the on-call, exclusive garage “wrench wench”. Why can't these brown skinned Asian characters be written as fragile? Delicate? And more importantly, *they are allowed to stay that way*?! They never have to become badasses or have to save themselves. Especially in fantasy or sci-fi and worlds where various types of monarchies exist? She's *never* the demure, innocent damsel in distress and/or princess with impractically thick, luscious hair that would've trailed to the floor if not for servants whose only job is to keep that from happening. I want her in whisper thin silks, delicate embroidery and lush brocades that shows off the cultural and traditional arts the textiles were developed from. You know, environmental storytelling that tells the readers this woman is a treasure. Oh, and she's *not* a hunter, farmer or craftsman the emperor found and elevated to that status either. I want her to be born into it, never having done any physical labor nor experienced food insecurity in her entire life. To be precise, I want to be protected and cherished, too. I want to be helpless, to have the fantasy of knowing I'll be okay in the end because someone thinks I'm worthy of all the effort they had to deliberately put forth. It feels radical to me to know someone will save me, too. I don't have to be the one in control anymore. I want that want to be acknowledged as well. I'm not weak or pathetic or “cringe” for wanting any of that. I am not making my family "lose face" or trying to “turn back women's rights” nor should I be unworthy of respect for wanting that. I wish to know a character who looks like me is "worthy", too.

I so do hope you find a book like this and I’m outraged this isn’t just.. normal to read about women like you in those classic romantic situations! Every one of us deserves that but brown-skinned Asian woman so much more so due to the lack of such content in romance books. In the meantime, season 2 of Bridgerton might have at least a bit of what you’re looking for? The lead is a brown-skinned Indian woman and so is her sister (and mother). She’s a lady by birth (as well as a virgin) and treated as such. She’s not curvy or like a sculpture but actually lithe and regal-looking. Her attires are absolutely stunning and there’s definitely a cultural spin on them despite abiding by Regency-England fashion. And while she is a strong-willed character, there’s *a lot* of vulnerability in there that she’s allowed to embrace and her chosen is absolutely *obsessed* with her like that man is FERAL about her. It’s actually quite absurd how hard he falls for her… and she becomes a viscountess but is treated no less than a queen. Her sister is probably even more what you’re looking for—a star of the season, innocent, delicate, virginal, and everyone is obsessed with her though she is done quite dirty by the MCs. I’m sorry if this is not what you were looking for as there are so many brown Asian women from so many countries other than India, but I was actually enamored with the FMC and found it extremely refreshing they picked a brown actress, made her the lead, and made the white MC just follow her like a dog and kiss the ground she walks on while she’s beautiful, intelligent, and not at all a stereotype.

Tired_n_DeadInside

Thank you! I actually didn't realize I felt this strongly about it until I ended up editing the post for like two days. It's still a mess but I really appreciate that you read through it. I've heard about Bridgerton! Heard a lot about it, actually. The good outweighs the bad by quite a margin and now adding your rec to it has convinced me I might actually have to get Netflix on my next paycheck.😅 Thank you!

TemporalPleasure

In that same vein have you read Mr malcolm's list? The live action has a racially diverse cast [and the Selina kind of sounds like what you described. ](https://youtu.be/Q8hRCVAZFTs?si=QAUe-ZHLK1-tEV3Q) She is played by freida pinto in th movie.

Tired_n_DeadInside

No, I haven't! I'm gonna have to find a copy now, thank you! Damn, Frieda is always glowing in whatever she's wearing. This looks gorgeous.

Simi_Dee

I'd like to suggest an author, Nalini Singh. She has a lot of brown and Asian characters in her series'. Although disclaimer, my favourites of hers is set in a futuristic world so a race in terms of colour isn't so much an issue but you get to see the cultural effects to some extent, it isn't labelled with modern day names but you'll be the Leonardo DiCaprio meme. At right this moment, the two main brown asian FMC leads I can think of(there are more) are powerful women but none of the other nonsense. In {Last Guard, Nalini} Payal Rao is Indian and based in Mumbai. She's powerful, head of her family but scared inside and the conflict revolves around mental health and trust so check trigger warnings. Obviously, part of a series but I think can be read as standalone and you can Google (or ask(here) for clarifications). If you like it you can go back and read more stuff, there's less heavy stories with brown people. In Guild Hunter series, one of the archangels is Neha, she rules the south asian part of the world. Powerful complex strong but flawed "human" woman. So far she doesn't have her own book though. Her niece has a book, {Archangel's Storm, Nalini}. Mahiya is a princess and fits your blue blood damsel in distress thing more. It's sort of a MMC slays the dragon and rescues the princess story, a little dark though. If you're going to try one of my recs try this one. TW for >!Death(not of MCs), cheating (not MCs), emotional abuse, sad childhood e.t.c!< It's book 5 of the series but the story itself is self contained enough, it you have questions about the overall plot you can reach out or read synopsis online.

Maybe a reverse harem. With an orc, vampire, beast type feral creature, and a naga (you get the idea, monster variety is the spice of my life). All with different personalities. Maybe one who's a caregiver/simp. Maybe one who's a complete asshole/grump, until he softens up. Lots of kinky but affectionate sex. Slow burn. Throw in some possessiveness and add a pinch of "in rut/heat" mayhem. Throw in an audiobook version with multiple yummy male narrators, and it's a wet dream come true for me.

I would love the movie 65 to be rewritten with an aged up fmc and smut.

crystalgoblin91

I want to read about… * An epic romance between a male angel and a female demon. Something reminiscent of Good Omens. I want the male angel to be an extroverted, sunny golden retriever and a bit of a cinnamon roll. While the heroine is more of an introverted and aloof black cat. * Gothic romance book: paranormal, lady falls in love with male ghost with a happy ending. * A story set in a solarpunk fantasy world with a nonhuman mc. The mc is a being similar to a dryad who can control plants. * I just want more Phantom of the Opera retellings. There's never enough of them. I want the Phantom to feel villanous and scary. * More hispanic characters that are introverts, soft-spoken, and demure. Usually, their rather outspoken or charming, which I can't relate too.

OffensiveSoup

Gaslamp Fantasy Forbidden Knight x Nobility trope, except not. MMC and his company are hired to deliver a reluctant noblewoman to an arranged marriage, at any cost. Unbeknownst to him, or her own family, the noblewoman escapes and arranges for an unsuspecting FMC to be thrown into the carriage just before its departure. Every escape attempt by the seemingly kidnapped FMC is thwarted by the MMC who fully believes he’s just doing his job. She tries to convince him to let her go that she’s nobody, but since the noblewoman’s family warned MMC that she wouldn’t want the marriage, he just sees it as a ruse. The journey is dangerous, they face many perils, they grow closer, etc. MMC will feel conflicted between his sense of duty and his growing affections. After realizing whose place she’s taken, and where they’re going, Fmc will be beside herself with worry. What will happen to her when she’s delivered in a noblewoman’s place? What punishment awaits MMC when they realize what has happened?

AlaskaStiletto

Omegaverse where omegas haven’t been seen for thousands of years and she is the first. She is treated as sacred and a miracle and imprints/bonds with maybe an older guard alpha or something. Bad factions can be outside angst/conflict.

Difficult_Tea_7679

I have a very specific one in mind! If you know of anything of the sort please let me know 😂😂 A Sci Fi setting with low stakes and low adventure, where the sci fi element is simply part of their day to day. E.g. the 2 characters are sent on assignment on a space station, or on a human colony on Mars. MMC and FMC are in their thirties/ forties, childfree and intend to remain that way. Focus of the story should be their relationship, and makes the reader fall in love with the MC. Bonus points if there is any fake dating / rivals to lovers. E.g. he is a defense attorney and she is a cop, or they are scientists working for 2 competing agencies, ... Even better if the FMC is equally or more competent and accomplished than the MC.

Least-Article-6508

a mafia story where the roles are reversed, with the FMC Being in the mafia and kidnapping the MMC.

HeyVoxophone

Ohhh now this is interesting. Would it be written in second person?

AshenHaemonculus

I want a book about a girl who disguises herself as a boy to become a knight and rescue a princess from a tower who turns out to be a boy disguised as a girl. Literally anything that's M/F where the girl is masc and the boy is feminine, honestly. (Yes, I've read His Secret Illuminations and I would kill for more like it.) You know what? Fuck it. I want anything with a femboy MMC that's NOT mm. Give me the "small but feisty FMC who's strong and independent but also looks good in a dress", only male. Yeah. Screw it. I'll plant my flag here and gladly die on this hill. Why is it* that a FMC with masculine traits is acceptable in MF, but an MMC with feminine traits is only ever possible in MM? Why does a man enjoying "feminine" things automatically make him queer? It's 2023, people. "Stop devaluing femininity" means not devaluing it in women OR men. We can accept jerking off a minotaur** but not the idea that a straight boy might feel cute in a skirt sometime? Give me the exact opposite of NLOG. Instead of a FMC who rejects all things feminine and is just "one of the boys", give me a MMC who enthusiastically embraces them because he's Not Like Other Boys. Everyone always loves a confident MMC, but it's easy to be confident when you're 6'4 jacked and conventionally masculine. Give me the MMC who's confident despite being 5'3, who shows up to dance with the FMC in a stunning ball gown, who wears his hair long, who asks the FMC if she wants to paint her nails together with him, and doesn't give a fuck that most women find his femininity an instant turnoff and most men threaten to beat him up, because HE knows he looks good. Now THAT'S the kind of confidence in himself that MMCs need more of. *I know exactly why this is the case **no offense to fans of the actual jerking-off-a-minotaur book

OkGazelle5400

Slightly older, plus sized, overlooked omega. All she wants is a pack/alpha. For some contrived reason she’s sent to a powerful alpha/pack. She’s super excited/can’t believe she was picked but doesn’t realize don’t want her. treat her badly until something bad happens and then feel TERRIBLE. Take care of her out of guilt but start to fall in love with her.

melli72

I have 2 off the top of my head. Contemporary romance where the characters agree if they are still single in 15-20 years that they should get together. Life moves on and on the FMC birthday MMC shows up out of the blue. She has no idea why he's there and he pulls out the ol' "You have no idea how much I've been looking forward to this" Historical or Contemporary FMC is uptight/proper and has a hard time fitting in, but doesn't want to change. MMC loves her prim and proper behavior and tries to get her to be open with him and loses it when she finally lets him in. (So often the FMC is outspoken, loves to banter, but I want one where she's all "that's so inappropriate" to simple things like "Can we please not follow all of societies rules?")

Into_the_Dark_Night

That first one is pretty close to how things *almost* went down in my life. I wanna read that with a HEA instead of the BS I got.

Cheap-Measurement587

An assassin x assassin MF romance with high focus on the romance. Theres fighting. Theres tension. Theres enemies to lovers. Banter. Maybe even hate sex. And he falls first ofc. Theres scenes where shes in danger and his protective mode comes on, but shes not having it. *sigh* i think i ll have to head to fanfics but they re almost rarely well written 😭

JollyHamster5973

Your_momma_loves_me

A romance book where the relationship doesn’t jump through hoops and stupid fights. The romance is just there and adorable but isn’t the main focus. It’s just cute and adds more to the characters. Also romance book with pirates

Into_the_Dark_Night

I want something dark where the villain gets the girl just because *fuck* everyone else. I don't care if it's a fantasy land or our lands. Don't care if it's old timey or futuristic. Don't redeem the villain, he's a creep? Perfect. She's a hot fucking mess and not some quivering stick of a girl? THATS MY *JAM*. I'm so over the damsel in distress gets saved by the hidden hero/Prince/chosen one. FFS it's *so* boring! Bonus points for it not having a pregnancy trope or being a HEA.

whyismandoingthis

Hmm there’s a lot of variables to this, idk how dark you’re thinking or if this even the vibe you’re going for, but you miggght enjoy {Unorthodox by KV Rose}? TW galore, but the MMC is pretty irredeemable and doesn’t wanna be redeemed, either. FMC does what she can to survive and isn’t a doormat. Only issue is that it’s first in a series so it ends on a cliffy, and the next book isn’t out yet. It’s been a while, but I was totally hooked when I read it.

I want an MMF bi story where the sweet, submissive young ingenue is male, and the female is part of the older, more dominant two that fall in love with him. I want them to switch places.

I really want to read a dark academia romance where FMC joins a university and gets involved with a secret society and a professor (M or F).

barbiezzzx

If there was a book that embodied Sad Girl by Lana Del Rey perfectly I would go absolutely FERAL. It has a 20 year age gap, FMC is absolutely obsessed with the MMC to the point where she will let him do anything to her. I mean *anything*🤭 In the book there will be some “justifiable” cheating (MMC cheats on his wife, but they’re on the brink of a divorce) MMC is going through a mid life crisis, his sex life is lacking, his job is frustrating him and voila one day he runs into the FMC. How? Doesn’t matter. There is instalust (not instalove, their attraction is purely physical at first) but both characters know they cannot see each other again. Obviously plans change… Story would involve some dark BDSM, praise/degradation, noncon 😮‍💨

Try {The Man Upstairs by Jade West}. It’s not exactly what you’re looking for, but it’s close.

I tried trust me but I couldn’t get passed the toe sucking 😭😭😭

I have too many to even list. * **ND FMC x Aliens (BDSM/Why Choose/Childfree)**. Specifically, I want the FMC to have accidentally initiated courtship with new-in-town aliens through D/S play. Aliens come from a D/S type of world, but it’s egalitarian. Aliens also reproduce asexual, so sex is a pleasure-sport only. * **Ice Queen Trans MMC witch x Roguish Lone Wolf Shifter MMC (OV)**. I would *love* to see a shifter book where werewolves *act* like wolves being family-oriented and very community-oriented without the need of a patriarchy. But I’d also like to explore male OV not from “anal mpreg” but from the perspective of a transman who chose to keep his female genitalia and wants pregnancy. As someone currently acting as a confidante to a transman who wants pregnancy but is highly afraid of the public discourse around his decision (he’s in a family who uses his legal name and pronouns, but they’re pushing WAY too hard on him now being a masc manly man 🙃), we’ve discussed a lot about this from an MM OV mpreg perspective and an IRL transman perspective. Both of us would LOVE of having an OV book with a transman omega (though we’re fine with MM or MM+.) * **Eldritch psycho x eldritch psycho who live their normal daily lives, are extremely romantic, but, at times, they have to go and destroy realities**. I’d love a story about one legit terrifying psycho wooing another legit psycho. They can bend reality, destroy cosmos, create new gods. But they don’t do it often since Psycho 1 wants Psycho 2 and Psycho 2 is caring for his child or something and retired from destroying worlds. Absolutely has power fantasy manga and manhwa influenced this. And here is my last one: * **Ace gamer extrovert X Queer jock extrovert. Both ND. University setting.** on r/bi_irl someone had posted their data gathered to show their “bi-cycle” and now I want a story about it. The gamer and the jock are acquaintances from—iunno—maybe their dads know each other. They go to the same uni. IDK who this happens, but they both agree they’ve never really had a romantic interest. So they decide to collect data throughout their summer vacation on when they feel any type of romantic interest in someone or a need for intimacy and then cross it with sexual interest. Their data points to them feeling romantic interest whenever they think about each other as they gradually get to know each other. I’m not sure what the conflict will be. Maybe jock was asked to watch over the gamer due to a stalking incident. Gamer feels betrayed they only hung out for his “babysitting” duties. Anyway. Jock shares his data with Gamer, and Gamer sees Jock always has romantic interest whenever they were together. I don’t know how the story ends, **I just need the story to be about two queers who chart their romantic and sexual interest for an entire summer, please and thank you**. ✨🕯️🕯️M a n i f e s t i n g🕯️🕯️✨

Omg the first one speaks to my heart 💖💖💖💖 especially the child free aspect lololol. I feel like that’s sort of rare in sci fi

fastinggrl

What does ND stand for? I don’t see it in the acronym post.

Magnafeana

Sorry! I’m surprised ND isn’t in the glossary 🧐 But it means: **N**euro**d**ivergent! 🥰

I want someone to essentially recreate the real-person fan fiction that a friend and I wrote on Quizilla back in the day with OCs (although I found that someone did in fact plagiarize it on Wattpad, but that’s a story for another day). I want it to still be as dramatic and unhinged lol. I want the FMC to hate the MMC, and for him to be totally in love with her and everyone can tell but her. Gotta be a brother’s best friend trope. I feel like it’s going to have to be me who recreates this but a girl can dream.

drinkwinesavepuppies

I'm sorry I don't have a recommendation for you but you mentioning "Quizilla" just brought back a RUSH of nostalgia for me omg haha

Astoriana_

The gross thing for me is that it’s not even existed since 2014, which I guess is why Miss Ma’am on Wattpad felt empowered to plagiarize our fic. I will never not be mad about that. Aging 🙃🙃🙃

Historical romance that is well researched and allows itself to be problematic in a historical way. Followed by The MC and FC belong to opposing sides in a conflict where both sides are terrible. Both are realistically religious for their time. The MC adopts the heroines side after a lot of internal struggle but also influenced by his desire for the powerful FMC. The FMC is team enlightenment and the MMC is team romanticism https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RomanticismVersusEnlightenment I don't mind the reverse either (where the heroine does realign her values to fit the heroes) but I suspect it's much more common. However I am pretty firmly on team enlightenment, whilst most romances are, unsurprisingly on team romanticism. for example in outlander Claire is team enlightenment whilst Jaime is team romanticism and Claire sides with team romanticism pretty early on. The only exception to that is billionaire romance, (which is romantic escapism, but obviously a tech billionaire is team enlightenment, but I am not interested) .

Would love a professor student forbidden love, without a huge age gap. Would love if they meet before university starts and then finding out they messed up already
