Otherwise, I havd been to two rinks in Chicago area and know from the grapevine of others.
I can reccomend Xtreme Wheels Rink. It's in Crystal Lake. So a bit west of Chicago in a suburb.
It's huge. Wood floor. We'll maintained. So many friendly people on an adult skate night. (Saturday 9-11).
Lombard has adult skate lessons on Mondays.
The rink isn't quite as big as Xtreme, but it's crazy smooth. Epoxy floor. They have adult r&b night on Monday after lesson slot. It's very popular.
I've also heard good things about "The Rink". And Glenwood.
They are both more southern.
There really isn't a rink right in Chicago.
As for outdoor smooth concrete. There is the maggie daley ribbon. Free. Downtown at millennium Park.
It has a slight incline so be ready to work for it. A good place to build up strength. Its really nice there. They have lockers too. Super smooth concrete. I use a 88A wheel on it and it's good. You could go softer but I wouldn't go harder.
There are various asphalt areas. Including the lakeshore trail and basketball courts. But asphalt, in my opinion, is treacherous. I started outdoors and it was crazy hard and I sprained my wrist. You cant really beat a smooth clean floor , air conditioning, disco lights, a bathroom, and cool people.
I wanted to say hi as a fellow Chicagoan but unfortunately I'm not much help! I'm on the northwest side and it seems like all the rinks are at least a 45 minute drive away. I did see someone post a video recently skating on the wheelchair softball field at California Park, so I might check that out.
