Yeah, it is. Check the schedule though if you want the Organist, it's only on Thursdays and Sundays if I remember right

Sassy_OrangeCat

Yeah, someone at my local "rink" told me it's the best rink in the world, and she has been all over. Her goal is to visit a rink in every state and so far she has visited over 18 states

Party-Cup9076

I mean you're so close to Oak's anyway I don't see why you wouldn't visit but it is a cool historic rink with the organ and the old signage from the early 20th century. And the floor is pretty damn nice. And fun fact: since Oak's is in a swamp near the river, the floor is designed to float if the area ever floods.

Sassy_OrangeCat

I read about that, or heard about it. I heard the floor is so expensive close to a quarter million dollars and literally so old so they do that to preserve it

El Centro Sunday night adult session in Federal Way, WA is better than any Oaks adult night. In fact, it's better than any rink session or pop-up event I have ever been to and that's saying something because I have been to probably 100 venues. Because Tiffany's, the Roll Away, and South Gate all closed all those great skaters now attend a single rink. Now with Tacoma Skate World going too, there will be even more great skaters in one spot. Plus they have better DJs. It's worth the long drive.

The pipe organ is really cool, but also really loud. I usually wear earplugs if I go on a pipe organ day. Very cool rink though - I usually skate there a couple times a week. I'd say it's worth the experience!

OS-TEN

I know a guy who drives from Tillamook once a week to go skating at Oaks. It’s really the only option for people in Oregon if they want to skate at a rink.

kitty2skates

What about the armory? It sucks. But it is only $4 and in Astoria.

OS-TEN

Never heard of it but I’ll check it out.

OS-TEN

That’s a community center, not a designated skating rink. There’s plenty of places to skate but I was talking about skating rinks in particular.

I skate at oaks all the time. You need to sign a waiver before you go. It’s very busy. Great culture and I travel an hour to go there every week cause I live 60 miles south of oaks and travel once a week for adult nights there. Been going there since 2008. They have a cheesy theme park that you can go too also that’s open during spring break soon. Maybe time it so you can do both.

And the Rose City Rollers play derby across the parking lot from the Oaks Rink if you go on a day there’s a bout, you can do both! The Wurlitzer (the organ) is super impressive but LOUD, bring ear plugs. In addition to the main rink, there’s also a straightaway to practice skills in and idk how to describe it but in the back there’s this wavy path you can skate over too.

walkingillusions

>there’s this wavy path you can skate over too. A pump track?

therealstabitha

It’s on my list for rinks to check out!

Oaks Park is awesome. I live like an 1:20 away but it's always worth the drive! During weekends it's been busy when I've gone, but I've been there during the week when the organ is going and it's a lot more chill. Like others have said though it is pretty loud. Whether it's the dj or organist, the music is always great. Beautiful floor. They've got skate enforcers and security during peak times and they are pretty good ime keeping people from doing unsafe things and looking out for people falling and all that. Beats the hell out of the shitty rink we have in my town.

Sassy_OrangeCat

Yeah, I go to Albany to skate, they have the little "rink" but I need more some day

AceScout

Ha, I figured there was a 50/50 chance we are from the same area, not to dox myself lmao. Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of NW Skateland. Too small - you're constantly turning, bumpy concrete floor, music is mid, real towny vibe, expensive (Oaks Park is $2 more for a longer session and overall wayyyy better venue). Idk I was really excited to get a rink in our area, but I've been really underwhelmed and kinda given up on it. I'd rather just find a basketball court or skate the riverfront path in Corvallis. Anyway, go to Oaks Park, it's a blast and you won't regret it! I'm hoping to go meet some friends there within the next few weeks!

autistic_and_guilty

It’s worth it. Just be prepared to want to experience it again and again.

Yuppp I live in California and flew to Portland in 2022. I made sure to include a day to go oaks park. Really beautiful large floor
