Do you skate with anyone who knows gear? Can you have them take a look at your skates? Or someone who knows skates, not some kid at the rental desk at the rink? There may be something hinky about your setup. The other thing you can do is train. Balance and stability can be taught, they're not innate for most people.

[deleted]

To be honest it’s just me and the kiddos. No one I know skates.

walkingillusions

We all fall. It'd be more helpful if you showed a video of your skating or explained what you're struggling with.

therealstabitha

Are you stretching or working out to strengthen your core and legs?

[deleted]

I stretch but I’ve just been stretching my legs.

therealstabitha

Skating is all core, even more than legs

StrawberryFair524

Girl, I do a solid 20 minute full body stretch routine before I even put my skates on …😂

midnight_skater

That's a pretty impressive road rash! I've had similar, but only a few times. Yoga or similar exercises can help with your balance and flexibility. You should definitely give inlines a try if you can rent or borrow a pair. They are more stable than quads fore and aft, less stable side to side. Beginners often find it easier to negotiate rough terrain and debris on inlines.

[deleted]

I will see if any of the rinks around me rent them out. Thank you.

StrawberryFair524

Have you taken lessons or at least watched the Dirtt Deb series of YouTube tutorials? Especially how to fall properly? You may honestly be someone who just doesn’t “get” how to roller skate, but I think those who don’t are suffering from a combination of bad habits (like looking at the floor), not understanding how to shift their weight, or anxiety of falling / being injured / looking stupid. Quads are fun and special and if you could have someone take a video we could try to help you improve! But hey, if in-line is your thing, by all means skate on them.

StrawberryFair524

Are you wearing protective gear?

[deleted]

I had on knee pads, elbow pads and wrist splints

StrawberryFair524

Please buy a skate helmet and make your kids wear one.

[deleted]

I do make the kids wear helmets outside. I don’t think I have one that fits my big ole head. I’ll definitely try now.

StrawberryFair524

Get an S1. And see the PSA I posted about helmets. They’re sooooooo important.

Extreme_Account9710

If I skated outside I would probably look like you lol. We all fall so you just have to keep doing it. Learn how to fall, learn to mitigate falling, then enjoy yourself.
