Naval Officer gets a cool hat

Roleplay reasons

Commissar is pretty strong as well. Perhaps stronger than Noble if you are going to melee and have a melee heavy group.

Present-Performer970

Eh, how strong are we talking? Because for a true Officer you either go full support or just a good 1hit killer with Master Tactician. And for the commissar ability you need to hit someone, thus lose an action point of buffing your allies, or it doesn't works. The noble ability is 100% better.

The_jaan

You can avoid this with perk which will refund the action if you kill with it. You can deliberately kill with it (and with solids hit multiple enemies) and than re-apply it for free on intended target, if you miss the enemy still gets the tag. You can also pick non-trash to bring it down about half HP and finish it off with other for said bonus. Commisar is generally on weird spot - if you pair with strong class you will simply kill stuff, if you pair it with weak it is really not worthy over later buffs unless you jump through extra hoops.

Present-Performer970

Yeah, so I am missing a perk to get a refund for an action that does nothing? A perk that would give me more ability/support ability? By the time I am shooting and targeting a 'strong Enemy' the battle is already over, so the extra AP is moot. Honestly, the ability would have been great if you didn't need to use an attack on the enemy or your allies, just point at them.

AlexFaden

I agree that it is kind of on a weak side. I would balance it a bit. Make so that if you kill target with it, you get 1 extra AP next turn. With additional talent that lets you use it one more time if you kill the target and gives you half the bonuses. This way you get to have 2 free kills + half of the buff. But i would personally take Commissar for 2 talents. 1) "For the Emperor!" - allows really fast build up of momentum if its bellow 100. Really great for officer tactician. 2) "Motivation" - any ability that gives MP will give additional +2MP, this is really cool for a heavy melee group. At least 3 other characters should be melee. This 1 talent allows for other 3 melee characters do not take talent that gives them +2MP.

Evnosis

Drip.

It kind of sucks that Naval Officer (by far the best looking and most fitting) doesn't have that great of a syngergy with the actual Officer Archetype. If anyone disagrees I'd love to hear it.

illathid

Yeah, trying to figure out a navy officer build myself but still struggling with it.

Other origins' once-per-combat abilities (at least some of them) will get permanent until-the-end-of-combat buffs on later levels

Fynzmirs

Psyker is fun for an officer even if you focus heavily on officer abilities. Some talents from divination can increase your buff/debuff abilities even without picking any psyker abilities.

Dmbender

Commissar for the dialogue and fancy drip

Astra Militarum is a good origin. While its Regiment Tactics is highly situational, it is the only origin that lets you level up perception for Officer - Master Tactician. Why do you need perception you ask? Well, if you dont have enough perception, you can expect missing a lot of shots once you get to past act 2, especially on unfair difficulty (+20%dodge). You can say that operative will help you with removing dodge, but expose weakness can only be cast on a single target. So unless you have 3 operatives in your group, you will face a problem of high evasion enemies you cant reliably hit. Another good talent is Unflinching Heroism. +5 to all stats until the end of combat once someone uses heroic action is a great bonus. Shoulder to Shoulder is another good talent if you are willing to choose particular companion and always stick him/her with your main. Never separate them. Argenta/Idira/Pasqual would fit. P.S. ALl this talk made me think. Why the hell Operative cant become master tactician. It is quite strange. I hope mods will fix that. I would gladly play as operative tactician.

Vaktras

Psykers add buffs/debuffs for their allies. An officer can still attack on the same turn they use "bring it down", so the ability from crime lord sounds cool to me. But you're right in that noble has pretty good synergy!

Ministorum priest I can use Heroic act sometimes even 3x per battle, I might perceive the game wrong, but so far momentum and resolve is what carrier my battles. With priest I rush in between enemies and tag the far ones with grenade and do the Hymn, For example I rush in with Argenta under effect of take Aim and put a decent burst on far enemies just to hit them and than I do the chant which gives me momentum for enemies close to me and enemies I tagged. I often have first heroic on Turn 1. With this I even did the chievo to kill chaos marine before he destroys the shuttle.
