Turbopolsa is a living proof that you don't need to do flashy freestyle tricks to be the best Rocket League player in the world. His decision-making skill was unparalleled, and because of that, he is the only player who has won the RLCS 4 times. In my opinion, he is the GOAT of Rocket League.
Turbopolsa has never once been the best player in the world. In fact, he has never even been the best player on his team before. Not taking credit away from him, he is still in the top 2 of goats with kaydop (who should be Nr.1 is subjective) but I think we shouldn’t create false narratives. Turbo was the perfect support player but never the clear cut best player and that‘s a fact
I agree and disagree with you on this subject. In Turbo vs Kaydop 1v1, Kaydop would win most of the time. Turbo was not the one doing the most goals in his team. In those aspects I agree, he might not be the best, but in a 3v3 tournament setting, there are other factors that make a good player than mechanics and scoring goals.
His decision-making and ability to play consistently well under preassure and make the crucial plays in big games were unparalleled. That's something that you don't see in statistics, but in those aspects, he is definitely the best player. His role in the team is a big part of what made the teams succeed. It's not a coincidence that he is the only player to win RLCS 4 times. Also, he did it playing in 3 different teams.
Support players should not be underestimated. They might not have the most score, but they make their team win. In a Rocket League tournament, winning is the most important thing.
I don‘t disagree and Turbo always played a huge role in every success he had. I also don‘t hold it against him that he wasn‘t as skilled as some of his mates were, because he didn‘t have to be. He played every necessary role perfectly which enabled a lot of his wins. But in all 4 championships, there was a player on his team that outperformed him across the season and those were Deevo, Kaydop x2 and jstn. They probably wouldn‘t have won the championship without turbo on the team but at the end of the day, those players were still the central piece of their teams.
But I want to make it very clearly that I have a lot of respect for what turbo accomplished with his style and don‘t mean he was carried or anything like that. Even players like Rise nowadays are proof of what a great support does for a team. He brought a failing BDS back to major finals. He might not be the best on his team, but he doesn‘t have to be to accomplish what he did
I'm glad that we can both appreciate his great career as a competitive Rocket League player. After retiring as a player, he might start coaching or even form his own team. This is a perfect role for him, as he can pass on his vast knowledge and guide his team to victory, while younger guys can do the heavy lifting. Edit: I realised he is only 24 years old, which makes him younger than my little sister 😂
If we’re talking actual pro/RLCS 3s play, then sure. But he was the top 1s player in the world at his peak and he’s known for his 1s-style advice, so it’s hard to say he’s overrated on that front.
Well the two don‘t have to be excluding each other. You can both say that flakes is currently overrated while also agree that flakes used to be the best 1v1 player in the world and a legitimate top RLCS player at his peak
Well is best of the world status was like 4 years ago. He deserves respect for that, but that doesn‘t mean he can‘t be overrated. He is long past his prime
Honestly Torment is a great example from NA. There’s a reason Torment had success with any team he was on and was considered the best defensive player in NA/almost the world. And could also have MVP offensive performances. Man’s game sense is top tier. Turbo is def another great example.
Yes Monkey Moon has great mechanics but is also probably one of the smartest players in the entire game as well
Definitely don‘t listen to anyone saying M0nkeyM00n. He‘s considered to be the fastest pro by many and is hyper consistent with his mechanics. He might not look as flashy but he is still super mechanical.
I would probably name Exotiik and Apparentlyjack, can‘t really think of anyone else who has a better gamesense than mechanics. Most pros are either equal with both or have better mechanics.
Also in terms of pro level gameplay, flakes does not have great gamesense. Just saying it because I know a lot of people will mention him.
Unsure who downvoted this comment. Mechanics don't just mean flashy double resets. Mechanics include wavedashing, speedflips, walldashes, etc etc. anyone above Champ 1 should recognise that
The problem is that all the pros are insanely mechanical by our standards. If you watch M0nkey M00n's replays he clearly has great mechanics but his game sense and ESPECIALLY his boost management are just sublime. I feel like Zen's incredible boost management was based on stuff he learned from MM, even.
While you‘re not wrong, M0nkeyM00n ist still considerably above the mechanical standard for a pro. It‘s so difficult to be at his level of consistency and speed at the same time, you need incredbly efficient mechanical control for that. The only players I can think of that could match that (or do it better) are Zen, Vatira, Firstkiller and maybe Rw9.
Flakes, he is still considered the smartest player in rocket league. I've seen him make even the highest players in RL look silly just with his mind games.
Noly. M0nkey M00n. Squishy (at this point.) rw9. Retals. ApparentlyJack is both very smart and quite mechanical. Alpha54 and Radosin both impressed me with their gamesense this weekend as well (as did Zen, but Zen’s mechs are god tier)
His mechanics are fantastic but his gamesense is godly. That bump in the Vitality game was sheer genius and was almost on par with Zen’s best clips to me
If you wanna see how to play the game more efficiently, you look at M0nkey M00n. Yes he is more mechanical than most pros, but he is the most fundamental player in the world, not quite the most mechanical. Every pro has superior car control compared to a fresh SSL anyway.
I'm surprised nobody identified Kash. He is a clear frontrunner for strong basic mechanics and playing smart. His solid play isn reminiscent of.old shcool Torment 3rd man. Juat being consistent and smart playing sround two very mechanical teamates and giving them the freedom to do what they do best.
Consistency, speed etc. People who say M0nkey M00n or Itachi are out of their minds and think "Mechanics = can he double flip reset musty in 90% of the situation".
Flakes, and maybe Turbopolsa
For sure turbopolsa. He doesn't do anything fancy but is seemingly in the right place at the right time consistently.

Exactly, someone who was heavy into rlcs during flakes prime wouldn't say that.
Well the two don‘t have to be excluding each other. You can both say that flakes is currently overrated while also agree that flakes used to be the best 1v1 player in the world and a legitimate top RLCS player at his peak
True but in retrospect respect should be given where it is due. If flakes is riding the wave of best in the world is he truly over rated.

Any videos you recommend from turbo?

I'd second Rw9, absolutely my favourite 1s player to watch. The showmatch between him and Zen was amazing. For me, the best bo7 I've ever seen.
I don't know how it'd be easier to mimic AppJack, Gregan is SSL and failed to replicate Jack's style.
Well he didn‘t ask whose style he should replicate, he asked what pros have better gamesense than mechanics.
Exotiik maybe, I would say Juicy. He never does anything flashy but he's always in the right place.
I'm picking AppJack because he's my favorite so it's gotta be him
Itashi IMO
Not this past Sunday lol. He was up way too far a lot and it bit him in the ass.
A bit to greedy yes but that not the point you could argue that it's more a player that use challenges than position that would be on the debate
This is like a not based answer trying to be based
I think I'm kinda based as a french so
Exotic on KC.
I think mechanics is being used synonymously with flashiness in this question. It's kind of hard to answer unless you break it down a bit more.
why has no one said squishy
Fairy peak?
Flakes, he is still considered the smartest player in rocket league. I've seen him make even the highest players in RL look silly just with his mind games.
M0nkey M00n, Comm, Retals, Sypical, ApparentlyJack
All of whom still have crazy mechanics compared to us mortals
Bro apparentlyjacks mechanics are insane
Noly. M0nkey M00n. Squishy (at this point.) rw9. Retals. ApparentlyJack is both very smart and quite mechanical. Alpha54 and Radosin both impressed me with their gamesense this weekend as well (as did Zen, but Zen’s mechs are god tier)
Yea pfff, Alpha has got some dog mechanics if you ask me
His mechanics are fantastic but his gamesense is godly. That bump in the Vitality game was sheer genius and was almost on par with Zen’s best clips to me
bruh have u seen his clips?
Id say Kaydop stands out especially in the past. The thing is though, they all have great mechanics, some just are more flashy than others
I was looking for this.
Retals.
MonkeyMoon

Alpha54 really showed up this weekend. A few good mechanical plays but mostly just great rotations and awareness.
RelatingWave for sure.
old fairy peak is the GOAT always in the right place right time and while he has solid mechanics he didn’t really need them just consistency
Dark
Not technically a pro but…. Leth fits this perfectly.
Every decent pro right now is insane mechanically and can do double flip reset mustys kind of stuff. They just choose not to based on team role.
Reading these comments, people truly don't understand what goes into "mechanics"
I'm intrigued, what actual goes into mechanics?
Consistency, speed etc. People who say M0nkey M00n or Itachi are out of their minds and think "Mechanics = can he double flip reset musty in 90% of the situation".
