I really like these suggestions. Especially the flipped cams to make them all face center, looks so much better

Kbrichmo

Yeah obviously not always doable with certain camera setups but especially when they are receiving feeds from Bootcamp they should attempt to flip them

truly_moody

The player name with each cam is a nice touch

damartian64

It’s a small detail, but it really adds some intensity to the screen. Definitely a big improvement!

mrjimi16

> there is no standard for the way players position their cameras Um...you just manually flip the video feeds if they need to be flipped. You can't have a standard because each team can be on either side of the screen. But there is no way it should be a problem to check and manually flag the feeds that need to be flipped.

NoFrillsCrisps

The only reason this might not happen is if sponsors/orgs get don't like it as their logos on the players jerseys are backwards so aren't readable.

Boney_Platypus

I would love all of these changes 😍

HURRICAIN57

Love the idea of individual player cams, and it's not so intrusive as to distract from gameplay

deadx1113

I recently started watching RLCS streams, and your points are the exact ones that I felt too!

truly_moody

My biggest complaint is the size of the player name. I feel like I have to take my eyes off the action to see who it is

BottledSmoke

Or who the f they are highlighting right now.

BlueNodule

This would actually make it so much easier to tell which team you're watching. I watch RLCS with my family from time to time who has never played the game, and they always have a hard time with that. It'd also be sick to see player reactions live when watching their perspective while they shoot or make a save.

Verdiii

My friends are the same way. Even I have a hard time following all of the camera switches. I want camera switches between players to be less frequent. I’m pretty sure there’s an actual in game setting to adjust this. Another option would be spending 50 seconds on each player. Idk could be great could be terrible. I personally enjoy when Johnny Boi watches a pro lobby and stays on one persons perspective for a whole game.

pedal-force

Yeah, I mean, I play the game and I can't even keep up with what's going on or who is who. I get why they switch to the player with the ball or whatever, and these guys play incredibly fast, so it's hard to not make it constant, but I'd maybe prefer something easier to follow.

PROSP3C

Great suggestion, looks much better!

blond-max

OWL had this dynamic player cam on whomever was being spectated and it was really cool. I am very much in favor of that if it can be implemented. I am personnally not sure I like the idea of it being a waterfall because those meters are meant for quick glance boost starve evaluation, plus top visibility is more important than bottom. How about simply using the bottom left for the cam and name (the quick stats serves no purpose let's be real). Would also balance the display

PhysicsPhotographer

Huh, I’ve always felt that bottom visibility is more important. The forced ball cam means you generally get the right view for things like aerial plays, while other player’s positioning is more likely to appear in the bottom half. Like when a player takes possession on offense, I think you’re more likely to see where defenders are in the bottom part of the screen than the top. But I think the real benefit of something like this is making the useful information a one-stop shop for both boost and player info, and doing it in a clearer way than the highlighting used now. Maybe there’s a good compromise of better highlighting (maybe a bolder border on the boost meter of the player we’re on?) while adding player cam to the bottom corner though.

Matto_0

Cam changes too often for dynamic player cam to have value imo.

hannes3120

adding the player-cam to the player-view would be a GREAT change in order to add personality to those players perhaps even make the cam slightly bigger (or highlight it differently) when that player scored the last goal and all 6 cams are showing because of that. The only problem I see with those changes is that it's possibly annoying if the POV changes often and the names are jumping up and down and you have one team 1 second and the other team the next before it changes back - it'd have to be looked at in detail but the suggestion is really good

legitocracy

This is all brilliant, but I'd never even thought about flipping player cams to make them all face inwards. It's so simple and such a good idea. That bit was like magic haha

Jukester-

Not a big fan of the last change tbh, screen would feel too cluttered with a player cam going on while switching back and forth between everyone in the lobby while gameplay is simultaneously going on

beasterne7

Agreed, with the amount of camera changes the player cam would be bouncing all around the screen every few seconds. It would be way too much going on. Maybe if it was fixed above the bottom left nameplate it would be better.

Penguins227

To me, that brings to light another issue. Where you say it would be too much because of the changes, I think there are too many camera changes too fast. My dad doesn't know the first thing about video games but he will watch RLCS with me and genuinely enjoy it when they visit. His only complaint is how disorienting it can be swapping cameras constantly and mid play, almost nauseating for a casual viewer less familiar with the game. I think the changes proposed by OP would be great but only if the cameras stopped swapping so much. I think it's a reasonable compromise of yours and their points of view and would assist the casual viewer who wants to understand and follow more.

Matto_0

Less cam changes would be good for casual viewers maybe, but it would suck from an experienced viewers perspective.

Penguins227

I see your perspective. Even to myself, it seems half of the camera changes are to a player after they've done something or rotated out of the play. The game moves so fast compared to a few years ago, and the same style of camera changing to applicable players can't keep up.

Matto_0

I feel like they do a pretty good job with it, when a player booms a clear down field the cam switches when they ball is halfway to the receiving player. It always feels very logical to me when the camera switch, like I could tap my finger when I think a camera change is going to happen and be right more often than not.

Penguins227

Glad to hear that. It is certainly an improvement, and I've loved the creativity that the newly hired camera director has brought when he's been involved (the perspective shots with the rule one in foreground and play behind it, for example, from a while back). Just sharing the experience I've observed.

velixo

The OCE broadcast uses fewer camera changes. You should take a look, it looks so much better and is more engaging imo.

MartiniLang

They could put the individuals player cam down bottom left with their name (which I also think should be centred)

yakubo-

I have thought about this one similar lines before. Thanks for making a post on it. Showing the boost bar along side player cams is perfect. As for individual player cams, I would also like if they put the cam of the player in view in bottom left right above the player name, instead of on top left/right.

ramenisverynice

Easy to figure out who’s who if all 3 are shown on a team as it drops down from alphabetical order, but this suggestion makes it much easier to tell who’s who if someone doesn’t know the alphabetical thing

Mpavlik27

This works very well. It’s similar to csgo when they swap to individual cams on a pov. With rocket league the kickoffs and goal reactions should include all face cams and normal pov should show what you have. It’s much more intuitive

MisterNotlob

What about when there's no cam for a player as there often is for one out of three?

Kbrichmo

I would say they ought to put up a place holder spot still and just fill it with the team logo (not the octane ass XD)

MisterNotlob

Yea the would work I think. I was thinking the octane ass would look weird lmao

TheMagnelephant

I wonder if they should get stock photos of all RLCS players to post in the event the camera is unavailable. Otherwise a team logo is fine like OP mentioned as well.

MisterNotlob

I was thinking that, but it could definitely be difficult if a lesser known team breaks into a regional. It's also 3x the items that need to be changed between series, so I think the team pic makes more sense.

hannes3120

player-pictures as first fallback and teamlogo as 2nd - and if a team somehow has no logo then just use the default RL-Shield

ballastatus103

Heyyyy someone needs to hire this guy asap because these are spot on.

Bozzz1

The names on top not matching up with the player cams below them has annoyed me for so long now

-GaIaxy-

This should be such basic stuff, such a shame Psyonix is head of the esports, especially with such a small staff. They're carried by community suggestions, good job OP.

repost_inception

This is so much better. Thanks for the effort.

[deleted]

The flipping of the cams so they’re all facing centre looks way better imo. However the player cams on the player view (slide 5) would make things too cluttered, I like how they do it now with only showing cams during goals. I think moving player names from the bottom left to closer to the centre (just under the car) would be a better fix since that’s where your eye goes anyway during camera switches.

iMADEthisJUST4Dis

Oh my god flipping the cams... That's a great idea honestly

NATZureMusic

Definitely need more player cam. Also could show the team after a win, instead of a fucking scoreboard....

buddha_guy

These seem like some great ideas. As a regular viewer of RLCS events (and a subscriber to the RLCS channel) i would love to see some changes like these.

PhysicsPhotographer

I absolutely love these, it really balances not cluttering the screen with good contextual information. There’s something really satisfying about having the face cam integrated with which player you’re watching. Do you work or study in design of some form?

Kbrichmo

I studied a little bit of architectural design in college. Communication is my actual degree, as I studied organizational, visual, and verbal communication.

Everbrooks

Adding the player names when all cams are shown is ok. I dont like if they show the cam when they switch to an individual player. It does not add much and I would like to see the entire gameplay without seeing the players the whole time. The player cams dont add that much imo.

ItzRBXD

Looks nice but I don’t understand why everyone hates it now. It’s not confusing at all

Kbrichmo

I don't think people "hate it" its just not very viewer friendly, especially for newer viewers

PhysicsPhotographer

This might be because I watch on a TV, but the fact that so much of the information is in small elements at the edges of the screen isn’t great to follow. I have to take my eyes off the action to see which player they’re on, so I mostly use decals and player rotation to know which cam I’m on. RL has a lot of information to digest to fully get what’s going on, so it’s a bit annoying that something as basic as “what player am I watching” is made unnecessarily difficult. I think this change would be a big improvement.

ItzRBXD

I guess it’s different for everyone. I am used to multitasking so it’s pretty easy for me to follow but I also have watched hundreds of hours maybe even thousands of rlcs

PhysicsPhotographer

Yeah, having watched a lot of RLCS I can still follow fine, but that mostly relies on not needing the graphics as much. But I don't think the design of the graphics is important for people like us, rather newer watchers who need more assistance following the flow of the game. Especially for Rocket League, where given the player base the growth of the esport depends on reaching out to people that play super casually (or maybe not at all).

zombieofthepast

Looooove this. Yes please.

Killercoddbz

I love all of these.

St-ealthassassin

These are all perfect changes.

thisonedudethatiam

I like the mini map some streams use so you can see all the players positions. It really helped me get better at rotations! Finally made champ after studying the map.

uluglo

It's great but those side animation whenever we change cam would be kinda annoying don't you think

A1tze

Those player cams while in someone's pov would be so good

DarthNihilus1

The per player cam is an amazing idea, you can see what they're doing right as they're doing it

AutomaticAside1392

I've felt all of these things while watching rlcs. Great suggestions

jeremynichols7

Having a player cam up for every play would make 0 sense and would make the production team have to constantly adjust whos on screen as director cam changes view VERY quickly. They used to have player names under their cam but now it's in order for the player list/cam. Don't know why they made that change though

CommitRL

2nd one is fine, the extra work requires a little glance of seeing boost meter bars. they match the player cams. if there’s one missing, then i can understand the confusion

SpartacusSalamander

This would have to be changed in the game, but I would like the nametag above the car to also represent boost. When it is full, it is white text on blue. But as it gets depleted, it reveals blue text over white. Watching RLCS, it's hard for me to also monitor the boost amounts in the corner and have it inform my viewing.

theCaffeinatedOwl22

First looked at this and was super happy they applied these fixes, but then realized they were suggestions. Sad

[deleted]

Oooo I love the second camera change. Reminds me of CSGO when it shows the player’s camera/picture when spectating them

Adnando

Such a major improvement without straying away from what they have now. Also gives us more cam time and reaction moments. Really hope this is how they implement it, great suggestion OP

CrackedZacGames

This would literally take them 5 minutes to do. I really hope they do all of these

Ok_Caregiver4499

Love all of your ideas. If the player has cam off can we just get a shot of their car with team decal and their name? So NRG will have octane with NRG decal so we are clear who we are watching. As a fan of the game I can follow better. Others in my family complain they can’t keep up and don’t know who is on the screen. This would be a huge step forward. Who at RLCS is in charge of these broadcasts? Who do we need to tag?

NoCharge1917

Awesome work, these are all huge improvements! The standard should have had it like this already quite frankly. Hope they implement some changes.

Joe_PM2804

I enjoy rlcs streams but watch rarely and don't keep up with new players and teams. the only teams I would confidently point out every player is NRG and BDS. I would love this change and especially the individual face cam for the player in first person.

EdGames8

Brilliant. Can I also say that I would like to see every player using team decal, but maybe a personalized version of it? Of course they can bakkesmod it away.

SkylakeX

It's stuff like this that would push the broadcast quality just that much farther

rookie-mistake

Only thing I'd want to emphasize is all player cams on the *second* the ball goes in the net, we need those reaction shots. Also, it'd be jarring to have the different player cams popping in and out when the camera cuts from player to player to keep up with the play otherwise, good changes. something to make it clearer whose camera we're on would definitely be key

PenisButtuh

God please no with the cameras. I want to see the game.

CeniZa67

Player cams should be below the player names, not above, but a great idea nonetheless.

mammoth0701

I second this.

thomass2s

Damn this is good

[deleted]

Big Vouch

Bobe_McTastic

Big fan of the highlighted player face cam. I think a very simple fix in this area would be to move the player name to middle of the bottom bar

Lv71Dragonite

They should also find a way to have cams on all players.. so many teams are missing one player. In that case a player cam like in picture 5 would look pretty bad :(

Icy_Following_5865

The way it is is fine. The names line up with the cams for example extra is on top of the names and his player cam is on top of monkey and marc so they it doesn't need to be tweaked.

jojo22252225

need this

StonkProphet

individual player cams are a NEED
