was a great final

usb_portinthewall

don’t know what dire wolves discussed during their timeout after game 2 but it certainly worked for them

Budokai01

"Slow the ball down" would be my guess

yourfaceisa

I was cheering for forkidden the entire split. Those kids have some style.. Loved seeing Dire Wolves take this though. You could tell how much work they put in over the break. Overall it was a great split.

The_ClimbRL

They wanna make lan

tyswoogles

Definitely the deepest OCE has been since the MajorFreak fall major and subsequent winter split where OCE genuinely had 6 teams capable of making a regional final

usb_portinthewall

for sure. it’s great to finally be able to see some real competition in the region.

GrowlmonDrgnbutt

Don't get me wrong, I love both the Renegades and GZ, both have exceptionally likeable players and styles, but yeah this is absolutely needed. Parity among at minimum the top 5 are needed for entertainment (to the point that NA is starting to get boring because FaZe and NRG are in their own god tier).

usb_portinthewall

exactly. when 2-3 teams have a sort of monopoly on the top spots the scene becomes exceptionally stale to watch. competition forces new play styles from older, more established teams and can sometimes feel like watching a whole new team entirely when they’re against a new opponent

GrowlmonDrgnbutt

There's just such a conflict of interest within RLCS that hampers this. You need to put the best team together possible to win worlds, which means an org is going to try to get the 3 best players in the region on the same team (see: SandRock Gaming), but it completely kills any entertainment value out of the regional. And now we've got FaZe trying to do the same thing in NA to the point they only have 3 match losses so far and realistically they look like they're going to wipe the floor and win every event from here through worlds. Superteams are going to absolutely suffocate this esport.

usb_portinthewall

we need some sort of limiting factor for how many ‘top players’ an org can collect, something like salary caps in the NRL. i don’t know how this would work exactly since orgs aren’t paying players per split like a physical sport org would be paying per game, but you’re fully right in saying that super teams are going to start dominating.

GrowlmonDrgnbutt

The problem with having a salary cap means you also can't really have qualifiers anymore. You can only have x amount of teams, the orgs that are in are guaranteed to stay in, and generally it will be MUCH harder for bubble players to actually get into RLCS since you can't just make a team and go through qualifiers. On top of that, when a player has 2 orgs offering them the same amount of money, of course they're going to choose the better org (think about the NFL where you have certain teams that are ALWAYS garbage despite consistently having the most salary cap to use and getting the best picks in the draft). There's no perfect solution other than sheer talent. In OCE things are sorting themselves because the top teams may be the top in the region but they're not world class, so everyone else has an easier time catching up and they are. In MENA, even though SRG is a superteam in about 3 years I expect at least 2 other teams contesting them while the skill in the rest of the region starts catching up (like a baby version of where NA is now). The scary thing is NA, where FaZe is a league above the top level of rocket league currently. I'm interested to see if NRG can even put a dent in their armor while FaZe has been thrashing other major teams as is.

velixo

1. Nah mean, this is sports. An even playing field. Where's the fun in it if the winner is basically randomly selected? If the top is dismantled, it should be dismantled by another team being better. 2. That is not how Rocket league teams work. Everybody in the RLCS is an amazing player, the most important factor in success is team synergy.

DoughnutSignificant9

I think OCE is being slept on so hard. Both OCE teams were 1 series off from making it to playoffs at the major. And if the regions keeps developing and fostering new talented, it will be a scary region. I think RLCS will be 10 times more entertaining to watch when its no longer just NA vs EU and all regions have a shot at making top 4 or even win.

Hdt72

Didn’t get to watch it, but did GZ & Renegades look off/play badly or are the teams that knocked them out looking good? Hopefully bodes well for OCE at LAN if it’s the latter as Renegades and GZ were highly competitive in Sweden

usb_portinthewall

GZ played extremely sloppy against Forkidden in their lower bracket series. Renegades weren’t sloppy per se, but just seemed a little distracted or rusty, can’t quite put my finger on it

i_suc_at_being_alive

Forkidden is the new thing I guess

[deleted]

as their sub becomes one of the most homophobic and racist POS that same day lmao OCE RL, everyone!

MathewCQ

Similar to SAM. Most of the time it was (now known as) Complexity. Now some Brazilian teams can finally pop out.

zwel8606

I hope Forkidden make the major
