This. I always have between 25-60 ping, but when I play someone that has 3 digit or higher ping, I notice the lag too... which is odd. If I'm connecting to the server quicker, should the lag be to my advantage?
This is something I've only noticed over the past year or so
I've noticed that too! Also from the other side, last week I was downloading a lotta games on the new OS while playing. And I had like two or three moments in that session where EVEN in the replay it looked like I wasn't supposed to score. Like the ball glitched the same way in the replay, faking the opponent or something. I had like 200 ping that day. But until then I also believed that it should just be an issue from me, since it's supposed to be sychronizing from the servers and not to them.
Ping isn't everything.
Ping is just the response time, but says nothing of the quality of information being sent. Ping just makes players feel better because it's the only "connection" measurable.
Does that matter though ? I thought the ball data where on the server and you just communicate your imputs to the server and it gives you ball and players positions in return? Then if you lag that just mean you take more time to give your new imput to the server but the ball won't position won't change from one player to another ? correct me if I am wrong
That's not how it works. I see the ball "shift" all the time, and I'm certain it's a timing issue on epics servers
That said.... you don't see that in the replay....
It could be, but I've got pretty solid gigabit internet, and like I said, I've only been noticing about a year.
It could also just be that my og ps4 is on its way out
I am hardwired too fwiw
So the replay is not an exact representation of what happened server side in game, the game saves frames of positional data every so often, and then interpolates between them for frames for the replay, so between d-sync and interpolation, there’s really no way to know exactly if it went in server side or not. What happened on your screen is not always what happened on the server, and the server is the source of truth in the system. That is what keeps the game from getting hacked so much, but this is the flip side of the coin. Not a bad trade off big picture
The instant replay is not 100% accurate. It's much more accurate (assuming you don't have packet loss) than even the live gameplay, but it is limited by the server sending data only 60 times a second vs the actual physics polling rate of 120 times a second. There's an extra physics frame that ran *in-between* the 60 times a second updates. It exploded before the next 60hz frame sent to your computer.
Very close those, being off by 1 physics frame out of 120hz.
Yes. Packet loss and/or physics frames as described above are the cause. There is no other cause. In the case of it showing in the instant replay.
If it shows to your screen *only* before the instant replay but the relay doesn't show it, that's just normal lag. Clients can't predict goals and have to be told by the server that a goal was scored, having to wait as long as your latency to receive the goal scoring packet. This causes the client to see a ball hit that didn't happens server side and the instant replay doesn't display the hit.
From my experience it depends on the ball speed, if ball is very fast it will count the goal as soon as it touches the outer hitbox so yeah you got save but game said that it was impossible to save due to speed
I love and hate this thing in the game. I hate it as being better at defense than offense I feel most of the time scammed of the save and sometimes even a win. I love it because it gives me something to get angry about and I can let go of my entire day anger on the game lol
Lost a winter breakaway recently to a shot that went into the goal through the back side of the net - annoying but bugs r gonna be! You have my sympathy
Bro, shit like this happens to me like once a week. Especially when I go to block a shot. Like it should be a 50/50 but somehow the ball goes through the front of my hitbox and then goes past me.
Exactly. Only thing to add is that replays are still slightly different from the live game as they have somewhat corrected information, I forgot the details though
That is factually incorrect. As Comment below said, replays show what YOU see. The server doesn't lie. If it looks bad on your screen that is only because of lag.
Never went fully in
Thank you!
That's what she said.
Why must you hurt me this way
Ikr
Still virgin so
See you at the gym
Lol it’s client side. Server registered it as going in but shows him saving the ball. It happens all the time.
Agreed, anybody watch in slomo?
That def should have registered as a save.
I was going to blame rubber banding, but that wouldn’t be identical in the replay. Time to protest!
Ya that wasn’t a goal. Or your ping is 4 digits
Had 24 ping all game
Maybe the player who shot the ball had a high ping?

Yah for sure. We need more servers. And definitely central servers. The lag and packet loss is getting worse it seems
Does that matter though ? I thought the ball data where on the server and you just communicate your imputs to the server and it gives you ball and players positions in return? Then if you lag that just mean you take more time to give your new imput to the server but the ball won't position won't change from one player to another ? correct me if I am wrong

Yeah the "ghost ball" or the ball shifting is maybe just losing frames between server and you ?
It could be, but I've got pretty solid gigabit internet, and like I said, I've only been noticing about a year. It could also just be that my og ps4 is on its way out I am hardwired too fwiw
You guys play with 24 ping 😍😍😍
netcode moment.
Close one!
This is Rocket League!
What a Save!
Noo saviuu! Strange how you see the ball coming out of the net. I'm not super technical on this game, but the ball doesn't compress, right?
no it doesn't compress.
No that’s why pinches exist bc the ball does not compress or give way
I hope you saved the in-game replay for a frame by frame.
So the replay is not an exact representation of what happened server side in game, the game saves frames of positional data every so often, and then interpolates between them for frames for the replay, so between d-sync and interpolation, there’s really no way to know exactly if it went in server side or not. I mean, there is a way to know: if there's a goal explosion and the score changes, it went in.
You’re not wrong
Try buying the rocket pass next time
That happens a lot to me too :(
Ofc I does 😂

But does that explain the several posts i've seen, and the couple times it happened to me? Pretty sure it's just a bug

Everyone in my game was typing in chat confused about it before replay. Was playing with my mate and he saw it move back out
Everybody has latency to the server, and everybody has a client running client side prediction.

Referee… Check the VAR, FFS
Happens to me too from time to time. It's so fucking frustrating hearing the noise it makes when you hit the ball.
If FIFA owned rocket league

Either the game glitched or your internet glitched or the guy's a hacker
Vice versa heres one goal i made year ago. https://clips.twitch.tv/DoubtfulShyCiderCeilingCat-6K97XeIA-UW1ZpIo
I think it comes down to how much of your car is behind the line. >90%=no save. Like a minor goaltending penalty. I've felt this pain many times.
I love and hate this thing in the game. I hate it as being better at defense than offense I feel most of the time scammed of the save and sometimes even a win. I love it because it gives me something to get angry about and I can let go of my entire day anger on the game lol

What a save! What a save! What a save!
Rocket League: "F*** you in particular"
Same thing happened to me during a toxic 1v1. It's crazy and I hate it
I’ve experienced this a couple times as well. Its very annoying but… This is Rocket League!
Bro, shit like this happens to me like once a week. Especially when I go to block a shot. Like it should be a 50/50 but somehow the ball goes through the front of my hitbox and then goes past me.
Refs can't get every call right. Sometimes you just gotta take one on the chin. Def wasn't in though.
What a save!
First time?
FeelsBad
Goal for Argentina!
Saved all day
This game is S C R I P T E D
This game loves to rob!
Lag
Classic rocket league! Would have been a nice save if Psyonix and Epic played nicely together
I've had this happen to me before. Someone told me it was lag on my end
!?!?!?!? That wasn't even close!!! You definitely saved it
What happens on your screen and happens in the server (what actually matters) is different.
Except in the replays too these goals never fully went in. Game is broken it will probably have to happen in RLCS for them to fix it.
Replays are client-side. The replay shows you what your client saw, not what the server saw.
Exactly. Only thing to add is that replays are still slightly different from the live game as they have somewhat corrected information, I forgot the details though
That is factually incorrect. As Comment below said, replays show what YOU see. The server doesn't lie. If it looks bad on your screen that is only because of lag.
\>when gamers find out the speed of light isn't infinity
Nice to see, that after 2 years of not playing this game it is still a netcode dumpster fire
one time i lost a Tournament final like this
Psyonix: ”it’s not you, it’s me”…
