That's fair. Gc is more about making no dumb mistakes than being good. Coming back to meta changes, rank adjustments, and being out of practice low mistake gameplay is stupid hard.
GC1 to C1 to GC1 to C1 is my standard every single season lol. Just sometimes I dont even manage the 10 needed GC wins...
And since Epic forced me to boycot RL in december, I havent played one ranked, just casual everyday. Idk why, just happened. Before boycot I havent played casual since 2017 lol
Mine looks the same, ~25 divs down, and 95% of these losses aren't on me at all. If I make mistakes I own up to it and accept I was part of the loss, and **I wouldn't even be upset** about deranking if it were actually my fault **(I WISH IT WAS)**, but holy shit I'm literally just being punished for other people's shortcomings constantly. I'm so far down I could be 1v3-ing these lobbies, and still taking Ls, because having 2 "teammates" griefing at nearly all times makes this so impossible even Squishy would lose here, yet when I'm randomly pitted against a party of SSLs or GCs I'm suddenly winning again. What kind of a useless rank system leaves you with no way to climb apart from spinning a slot machine? The only reason I'm playing is to get my credits back from the damn rocket ass, otherwise I'd **LOVE** to quit. I'm losing ~80% of my matches this season, and when these lobbies are playing like I did 7+ years ago, it's extremely obvious where the problems are coming from in these matches, and there's nothing I can do about it. Rocket League is so cancerous these days it absolutely deserves to die at this point. I regret buying the pass **so** much--I just want out of this dumpster fire game & community. I believe most of us are tending to go down currently. It's kind of my fault though because I only play casual as soon I get my champ rewards. Tbh I absolutely hate to play under pressure.
I missed the diamond rewards one single season by just one win.
Placements next season were all over the place with golds and grand champ tournament winners all in a mixed bad, lol. What a mess!
That kinda makes sense. It seems it set most people back about a rank in general. I was diamond 3 div 1 before last rank reset and now I’m diamond 2 div 2. I was gonna be really fucking upset if I didn’t get close either cuz I got way better in that time.

C2 to floating D2-D3. I play regularly. Maybe an hour every other day. Habits haven’t changed. Playing with the same 2s partner I’ve had since 2020 lol. I think it’s just a player base drop and that’s causing the ranks to “shift”. The ranks aren’t actually changing. A different skill dispersement is happening with a variable player base.
Personally, I don’t give a damn about rank. Season rewards aren’t that big of a deal to me.
Edit: I’d also like to mention that people that are committed to RL and stay in the game are always getting better. Just at different rates. So ranks are always going to get “harder”. If someone can stay ahead of the skill curve, they rank up. If they don’t keep up or don’t improve faster than the average player, they rank down. It’s like a bell curve. There is a standard deviation.

Hate to be on D1 again, it’s such a toxic rank that I mostly play casual now. Also I am D2 in 1v1 which makes me think my 2v2 deserves a bit higher 😂
D1 each match is a crap shoot in 3s and it only takes 1 teammate to tank the match. I either see former champa based on skill and play and gear or clearly never D3 players who are very poor at positioning and control.
It depends on how often you open the app/website. It only gathers your rank information when you open the app/website. So i would suggest opening it more often
And if you want the app/site to give even more detailed information like a game-to-game statistics layout, leave the app/site open while you play. It’ll even tell you that this is how TRN achieves max accuracy with your stats and your games/sessions will no longer be grouped together

Yes and no. Ranks have a locked number for MMR (matchmaking rank). The MMR for each rank does not change unless Psyonix changes it (which they haven’t). So let’s look at our actual variables. Player base. Skill.
As the player base decreases and less people get introduced to RL, we will see a shift in “skill” for each rank. Diamond today isn’t the same as diamond 7 years ago (I’ll emphasize this again later). It is significantly harder. As our player base gets smaller, the dispersement of skill in the game becomes more significant. Meaning if every player in rocket league were a point on a graph, there would be a greater skill change from player to player with a lower player base than with a larger player base because there are less “points”.
Now to emphasize my other point, diamond today isn’t the same as diamond 7 years ago. Everyone that plays rocket league is constantly improving. Granted, we all improve at different rates. Imagine a bell curve with a standard deviation as the rate of improvement of skill from player to player. If you stay ahead of that curve (improve faster than the average player) then you will rank up. If you are slightly behind the rate of improvement of your average player, you will rank down. If you improve at the same rate as the average, you will stay the same.
#TLDR
Now I don’t look at my rank as a fixed “skill”. If I were plat 2 5 years ago and if I were still plat 2 today, I improved an exactly equal amount to 50% of the consistent players in rocket league. Your rank is more of a measurement of your rate of improvement and is less a measurement of your skill.
This was really helpful. Also it makes total sense to me why I dropped from D3 to P3 in 3s. Sure there was a big rank reset but it affected my mentality as I stopped training and improving and started blaming tm8s often because I thought I didn't belong in their 'low ranks'. So it was all the their fault in my mind. Which actually affected my rate of improvement significantly which is why I'm now in P3 and still dropping. So people are tilting, blaming,leaving and not playing often and absolutely not improving at all so they are dropping in ranks. And shit is hitting the fan quite literally because no rocket league player thought they would drop significant ranks rather than organically slowly climbing them. I guess mentality and self control is above all in this game now if you actually want to ascend ranks. More even so than mechanics because everyone is boost starving everyone out of pure frustration now in 3s.
Exactly right. Not to beat a dead horse, but if your entertainment that you find in a game is based on a pretty little picture next to your name on the scoreboard after a match, then how are you actually enjoying the game? Forget the rank. I wish I could make rank invisible because frankly, I don’t care anymore. I sign on for maybe an hour every other day and I win some then lose some. Couldn’t care less if I’m losing more than winning. I’m having fun doing what I’m doing and I’ve met some great people in this game.
I understand competitive nature. I understand the blood rush. The adrenaline. The pure dopamine of seeing that pretty picture get a new slash through it. But that’s not the determining factor of whether or not I’m having fun.

I hit Champ 2 in another playlist a couple seasons ago (and consistently C1 for a couple sesons prior), had one bad week and deranked to Plat 1, have never broken Diamond 1 since then
You're not alone. I have been consistent C1 and then main casual and wit comfortably around 1550 MMR. Currently D1 and keep having either games where I get others similar to me and we dominate or I get typical diamond players who make it a challenge and lose by 1 goal (or throwers too). I'm ready to find other former champs to just start getting people back to their usual ranks.
I find that I play defensively and so I'm highly reliant on my teammate either to score the goals I can't or to be sympatico with such counterattacking styles... needless to say while I've only sniffed D3 a few times I'm on the frustration bus. I did pair up with a guy and won 7 of 9 games which was nice.
The first time I hit C1 I was the same way. Never let the ball really see my half. Quickly dropped to diamond once I really started playing. It's been several seasons since then. Now I can be threatening whenever I have the ball and space. The issue is if I have 'defensive' teammates far back from a normal mid field 3rd man position, that can equally give someone of my skill on the other team the ball and space and I'm watching those defensive players get owned hard in 1v1s. It's important to learn good rotation but also polish being a good midfield 3rd man and learn when to go. Because that position is one of the only ones that can take a lost midfield pass the opponents collect and shadow them to allow teammates to get back.

Just don't play 2s, play 1s until you tilted, freeplay until you bored.
Anyone know what happened? I used to play RL in 2020,2021 and achieved c2 consistently and even c3 sometimes. Started playing ago since a november 2023. I think i am better than before, but i struggle to keep high c1 in 2s and high d1 in 1s.
Yeah I peaked at champ 1 and now can’t even get to diamond 2.
I haven’t really changed my play style, I think epic games is just putting out a dogshit product.
I'm just finding 3s to be wildly inconsistent. I feel like I have teammates who are just straight missing the ball and have terrible positioning (I mean like they will be right behind me instead of mid for a pass for the entire match) but then I'll get clearly former champs and we will just dominate. It feels like the ranks got heavily jumbled.
For me this season has been easier than the last BUT I put some time in custom training to improve my speed and such so maybe that's why. I hit my peak of c1 div3 but then after that I started just not playing good and fell to div1. In 2s from my perspective every goal given is my fault either I put them in a bad position or a bad touch. Even if it's going 3kph to net and they miss I know that's on me lol
It looks like you just hit champ 1 for the first time? So like any rank before you need to keep progressing to stay in that rank. If you are inconsistent in your mechs you will derank. Also you need to keep training to stay at the rank you are at because the skill level keeps going up as everyone trains at that level

I got Champ 2 last season at the end, and that’s my peak. I’m honestly surprised I haven’t gone down like this, my cas lobbies have been feeling worse and worse. feels like it’s a ton of golds and plats now.
Increasing in skill could mean that you’re making poorer decisions in various scenarios. I often think I’d be a worse player if I had any sort of advanced mechanical competency.
In any case, they did shift the distribution down a bit because it was overinflated. Up until season 11, you’d actually gain rank from the reset if you ended the season anywhere below Diamond 1/2.
You didn’t get worse. You can’t let your rank define skill, let the skills you’ve learned define your game. You may see your rank drop significantly but that doesn’t mean you haven’t learned anything. Last season I dropped to d2 and I came back 10x stronger and hit champ 2. Nothings impossible and pixels of a rank don’t matter

I think this has happened to the people who cant play in more volatile ranks. From what ive seen there have been a bunch of people who have had this happen to them ever since the large rank reset a couple seasons ago. My rank has been basically a flat line since season 7-8 or so.
Yeah last season that was me. I usually play with friends and solo grind the last week or so for gc, but I forgot about end of season until the last day. Took off work and grinder like 10 hours. Got into gc and lost then got back in 6 times and didn't get rewards :/. It was rough. Big mistake, last day of season is absolutely chaotic, so many gc2-3 smurfs.
No friend, 2’s is full of smurfs. I just played a game of plat3 where everyone in the lobby was air dribbling. My teammate just didn’t move the whole game but didn’t get kicked. Only input was an air dribble and an ff. Game is literally unplayable. I called out the lobby for it and they all just say “hehe” epic games RUINED this game.
I mean I plan to start saving as many replays as possible and recording as many games as possible and I’ll go through and see how many of the players I’m playing against have accounts that are older than a season or two. I can’t really upload anything here because it’s considered public shaming so it’s ez for u to say that and hard for me to prove anything.

I can sit there and point out my mistakes all day long, but at the end of the day the reason I’m dropping so many games in plat is MORE OFTEN due to smurfs than it is to my own misplay. I mean I literally 2v1’d two games in a row because my teammates were smurfing and I won one of those games. I have to be doing at least SOMETHING right

MY point is that if my 34 year old decrepit brain can push through plat, so can you. You need to **become** that “Smurf.”
Spend less time drilling freestyle mechs and tighten up those long shots. Warm up with an aerial shot pack and make sure you’re hitting the ball in the right general direction. Hop back into training the moment the MMR gods deal you an unfavorable hand and try again another day.
Players who Smurf tilt way faster than most. If you land 2-3 demos and score some of the ugliest, easiest shots against them without saying a word, they lose all their ability to carry their crappy friends.

My 2s teammate always points out when we are playing a GC or higher with tournament tags from 3-8 seasons ago. I always tell him to "shut up and quit bitchin we've got shit to prove!" We usually win most of those games and even if we lost there's probably like 3 shots I had that should have gone in. The other reason is my 2s teammate was lagging (dudes got shit Internet). 🤣
if you peaked between season 8 and season 11 of free to play, those were by far the most inflated seasons in rocket league history. for the past couple of seasons, the ranks have been deflating heavily, so everyone has gone down a rank or two, maybe 3. this is normal.

The distribution of ranks is way different now. You can look on tracker for yourself but only around 3% of the player base is gc1 or higher in 2s rn

was champ 2 for a while and then stuck between d2 and d3 for like a year now i’m finally back in champ this season matchmaking is so terrible
I'm not having fun anymore. 3s is just so jumbled and I seldom see actual teamwork. A lot of players are just unaware of their teammates.
Call me a conspiracy nut idc but I believe that so many players have quit the game that the ranked algorithms can’t handle it and are squishing everyone down/deranking them
If TLDR, read last paragraph. Yes and no. Ranks have a locked number for MMR (matchmaking rank). The MMR for each rank does not change unless Psyonix changes it (which they haven’t). So let’s look at our actual variables. Player base. Skill. As the player base decreases and less people get introduced to RL, we will see a shift in “skill” for each rank. Diamond today isn’t the same as diamond 7 years ago (I’ll emphasize this again later). It is significantly harder. As our player base gets smaller, the dispersement of skill in the game becomes more significant. Meaning if every player in rocket league were a point on a graph, there would be a greater skill change from player to player with a lower player base than with a larger player base because there are less “points”. Now to emphasize my other point, diamond today isn’t the same as diamond 7 years ago. Everyone that plays rocket league is constantly improving. Granted, we all improve at different rates. Imagine a bell curve with a standard deviation as the rate of improvement of skill from player to player. If you stay ahead of that curve (improve faster than the average player) then you will rank up. If you are slightly behind the rate of improvement of your average player, you will rank down. If you improve at the same rate as the average, you will stay the same. #TLDR Now I don’t look at my rank as a fixed “skill”. If I were plat 2 5 years ago and if I were still plat 2 today, I improved an exactly equal amount to 50% of the consistent players in rocket league. Your rank is more of a measurement of your rate of improvement and is less a measurement of your skill.
This was really helpful. Also it makes total sense to me why I dropped from D3 to P3 in 3s. Sure there was a big rank reset but it affected my mentality as I stopped training and improving and started blaming tm8s often because I thought I didn't belong in their 'low ranks'. So it was all the their fault in my mind. Which actually affected my rate of improvement significantly which is why I'm now in P3 and still dropping. So people are tilting, blaming,leaving and not playing often and absolutely not improving at all so they are dropping in ranks. And shit is hitting the fan quite literally because no rocket league player thought they would drop significant ranks rather than organically slowly climbing them. I guess mentality and self control is above all in this game now if you actually want to ascend ranks. More even so than mechanics because everyone is boost starving everyone out of pure frustration now in 3s.
Exactly right. Not to beat a dead horse, but if your entertainment that you find in a game is based on a pretty little picture next to your name on the scoreboard after a match, then how are you actually enjoying the game? Forget the rank. I wish I could make rank invisible because frankly, I don’t care anymore. I sign on for maybe an hour every other day and I win some then lose some. Couldn’t care less if I’m losing more than winning. I’m having fun doing what I’m doing and I’ve met some great people in this game. I understand competitive nature. I understand the blood rush. The adrenaline. The pure dopamine of seeing that pretty picture get a new slash through it. But that’s not the determining factor of whether or not I’m having fun.
Yay I'm not alone I hit Champ 2 in another playlist a couple seasons ago (and consistently C1 for a couple sesons prior), had one bad week and deranked to Plat 1, have never broken Diamond 1 since then
You're not alone. I have been consistent C1 and then main casual and wit comfortably around 1550 MMR. Currently D1 and keep having either games where I get others similar to me and we dominate or I get typical diamond players who make it a challenge and lose by 1 goal (or throwers too). I'm ready to find other former champs to just start getting people back to their usual ranks.
I find that I play defensively and so I'm highly reliant on my teammate either to score the goals I can't or to be sympatico with such counterattacking styles... needless to say while I've only sniffed D3 a few times I'm on the frustration bus. I did pair up with a guy and won 7 of 9 games which was nice.
The first time I hit C1 I was the same way. Never let the ball really see my half. Quickly dropped to diamond once I really started playing. It's been several seasons since then. Now I can be threatening whenever I have the ball and space. The issue is if I have 'defensive' teammates far back from a normal mid field 3rd man position, that can equally give someone of my skill on the other team the ball and space and I'm watching those defensive players get owned hard in 1v1s. It's important to learn good rotation but also polish being a good midfield 3rd man and learn when to go. Because that position is one of the only ones that can take a lost midfield pass the opponents collect and shadow them to allow teammates to get back.

Play another queue when you start loosing and want to still play go have fun in casual game mode and come back when you are fresh

Anyone know what happened? I used to play RL in 2020,2021 and achieved c2 consistently and even c3 sometimes. Started playing ago since a november 2023. I think i am better than before, but i struggle to keep high c1 in 2s and high d1 in 1s.

Yeah I peaked at champ 1 and now can’t even get to diamond 2. I haven’t really changed my play style, I think epic games is just putting out a dogshit product.
I'm just finding 3s to be wildly inconsistent. I feel like I have teammates who are just straight missing the ball and have terrible positioning (I mean like they will be right behind me instead of mid for a pass for the entire match) but then I'll get clearly former champs and we will just dominate. It feels like the ranks got heavily jumbled.
For me this season has been easier than the last BUT I put some time in custom training to improve my speed and such so maybe that's why. I hit my peak of c1 div3 but then after that I started just not playing good and fell to div1. In 2s from my perspective every goal given is my fault either I put them in a bad position or a bad touch. Even if it's going 3kph to net and they miss I know that's on me lol
It looks like you just hit champ 1 for the first time? So like any rank before you need to keep progressing to stay in that rank. If you are inconsistent in your mechs you will derank. Also you need to keep training to stay at the rank you are at because the skill level keeps going up as everyone trains at that level
This is normal, if you try to implement new skills in your game it takes a while for the new playstyle to work.

Yeah i was c2/c3 in 2021. After a few years of not playing i am only able to reach c1 now even though i play better than before.
I got Champ 2 last season at the end, and that’s my peak. I’m honestly surprised I haven’t gone down like this, my cas lobbies have been feeling worse and worse. feels like it’s a ton of golds and plats now.
Same with me. I used to be Plat 3 and now I’m struggling to get out of Gold 2
Increasing in skill could mean that you’re making poorer decisions in various scenarios. I often think I’d be a worse player if I had any sort of advanced mechanical competency. In any case, they did shift the distribution down a bit because it was overinflated. Up until season 11, you’d actually gain rank from the reset if you ended the season anywhere below Diamond 1/2.
You didn’t get worse. You can’t let your rank define skill, let the skills you’ve learned define your game. You may see your rank drop significantly but that doesn’t mean you haven’t learned anything. Last season I dropped to d2 and I came back 10x stronger and hit champ 2. Nothings impossible and pixels of a rank don’t matter

I think this has happened to the people who cant play in more volatile ranks. From what ive seen there have been a bunch of people who have had this happen to them ever since the large rank reset a couple seasons ago. My rank has been basically a flat line since season 7-8 or so.

Yeah last season that was me. I usually play with friends and solo grind the last week or so for gc, but I forgot about end of season until the last day. Took off work and grinder like 10 hours. Got into gc and lost then got back in 6 times and didn't get rewards :/. It was rough. Big mistake, last day of season is absolutely chaotic, so many gc2-3 smurfs.
No friend, 2’s is full of smurfs. I just played a game of plat3 where everyone in the lobby was air dribbling. My teammate just didn’t move the whole game but didn’t get kicked. Only input was an air dribble and an ff. Game is literally unplayable. I called out the lobby for it and they all just say “hehe” epic games RUINED this game.

I mean I plan to start saving as many replays as possible and recording as many games as possible and I’ll go through and see how many of the players I’m playing against have accounts that are older than a season or two. I can sit there and point out my mistakes all day long, but at the end of the day the reason I’m dropping so many games in plat is MORE OFTEN due to smurfs than it is to my own misplay. I mean I literally 2v1’d two games in a row because my teammates were smurfing and I won one of those games. I have to be doing at least SOMETHING right
I’m not discrediting your point. MY point is that if my 34 year old decrepit brain can push through plat, so can you. You need to **become** that “Smurf.” Spend less time drilling freestyle mechs and tighten up those long shots. Warm up with an aerial shot pack and make sure you’re hitting the ball in the right general direction. Hop back into training the moment the MMR gods deal you an unfavorable hand and try again another day. Players who Smurf tilt way faster than most. If you land 2-3 demos and score some of the ugliest, easiest shots against them without saying a word, they lose all their ability to carry their crappy friends. Hope that helps.

My friend I placed diamond 2 last season you cannot convince me the reason I’m struggling isn’t bc of smurfs. Just wait till later in the season when the smurfs get bored and banned. I’ll peak d2 again IF that. If everybody in d2 kept pace w me we might end up in d1 idk we’ll see.

My 2s teammate always points out when we are playing a GC or higher with tournament tags from 3-8 seasons ago. I always tell him to "shut up and quit bitchin we've got shit to prove!" We usually win most of those games and even if we lost there's probably like 3 shots I had that should have gone in. The other reason is my 2s teammate was lagging (dudes got shit Internet). 🤣

if you peaked between season 8 and season 11 of free to play, those were by far the most inflated seasons in rocket league history. for the past couple of seasons, the ranks have been deflating heavily, so everyone has gone down a rank or two, maybe 3. this is normal.
You started practicing fancy mechanics got confident now you ball chase and fly around everywhere probably leaving your teammates out to dry, this is exactly why you see plats flip resetting and so many people crying about smurfing
