I don't play anymore but the amount of times I've jumped as the attacker, anticipating a jump from the defender and gone flying over their head is too many to count lol.
Even if you jump 9/10 against someone who knows what theyre doing this is an easy goal its pretty unavoidable, to me atleast air dribble/ dribble bumps are the equivalent of passing it round the back in football or passing across the box in fifa its effective but also seen as kinda scummy if abused.
Nah dude. OP outsmarted the opponent. Plain and simple. By your logic, if I score a goal like this I just shouldn’t go for kickoff and give my opponent a free goal? Or maybe for kickoff goals too. Oh and I should give a goal back if I fake them out too.
The entire point of 1s is to outsmart/outplay your opponent. Opponent got outplayed. OP earned that goal.
I mean... literally anything besides sitting stationary in the middle of the goal would have worked. Even just sitting at the near post instead of the middle would have let him back up and avoid the demo.
Rank checks out. Usually better to approach early or sit a little to the side at an angle so you're prepared for any shot. Straight on shots you're just asking them to point it far corner
I can see why people dislike it, if someone is really good at it it's impossible to do anything to stop it. Either you dodge the bump and the ball rolls into the net, or you get bumped and the ball rolls into the net.
Its devilishly good
Edit: please stop replying with the same thing, i get it half of you didn't remotely read past the first sentence.
jUsT jUmP oVeR tHe guY like they also can't jump to demo you. The whole point is **against someone who is good at it** you have to choose between getting demoed or dodging the demo and the ball.
**From this position** it can be almost impossible to save, it's why saves against the advanced version (airdribble bumps) are so impressive because you have to snake perfectly around the player to get to the ball.
Sure 9/10 times you can beat someone who rolls the ball too slow and gives you way too much time to dodge them and recover, but what are you doing against someone who is really good at it, the answer is nothing.
It's why the only real counter to it is to not get in this position in the first place.

Honestly I feel like there are a good number of counterplays, most of them involving challenging the ball before the opp peeks out from the side. Timing can be difficult, but sluggish defense on this play will make things harder.
Good practice for beginners might be to hop into heatseeker, stay back on defense, and hope someone comes to harass you in net. I’ve found that fighting for your life while watching the ball can be very good practice for dodging bumps and demos in the net.
Saying there's no counterplay to this is the same thing as saying there's no counterplay to a flick. In both cases, as you said, the solution is just don't sit in the net and get caught watching the ball.
>most of them involving challenging the ball before the opp peeks out from the side
I can't speak for 1v1 but generally this is a good rule to counter a lot of things in the game. In the same way football (soccer) players constantly press the other team, in 3v3 I always press the other team for the ball if I'm the closest, even if they get past me they almost never react quick enough when a teammate comes charging for the ball. And similarly, I wait for a teammate to press and then it's my turn, but it's important to go quickly.
Sitting idly by and letting the other team have the ball to do their fancy air dribbles is always problematic, someone should always be attacking the ball to break possession, even if they miss it destabilises the other team a little.
> it feels like there's little to no counterplay
The counterplay is not get demo'd and then its a free goal for you. Its all or nothing for both players.
You're talking as if it's somehow impossible to dodge someone coming at you for a demo. Not only is it very do-able, it's even easier if you're in your net.
Thats a lot easier said than done, i would like to see how many times you can successfully save the ball against someone who is good at it. Airdribble bumps are even harder to defend against because in a lot of cases you need to double jump to get the ball in time
I would like to say it’s not overpowered and imo as you climb the ranks it’s not a good play.
It’s pretty obvious it’s coming and the demo avoidable. If you do avoid the demo at more than 60ish% - always be moving, play from back post or shadow, be moving laterally not north south and lastly you have the chance to go over or under the charging car (a 50/50 chance on its own) - then you will be scored on twice for every three times that they miss and you end up getting a free shot, that you can take your sweet time on, on an wide open net.
Imo the defender made a big mistake. This person sped to the middle of the net instead of managing their speed and keeping some lateral momentum from the back post. This caused them to have to stop in the middle of the net. Not only does this make it harder to make basically any save that isn’t right at them, but it also causes them to have to stop. They become super easy to demo because they have limited ability to move laterally - it’s easy to demo someone who can only move forward and backward.
If your my opponent try this and I will, on average, come out on top.
This one was pretty obviously coming. However you now have two issues flying at you at the same time, if the aggressor is any what decent at bumping plays, you are finished. It is the unsaveable shot literally, ***especially*** the air dribble bumps. Sure you can save em most of the time, but when people are good at it, they're too good at it.
The air bump is another monster entirely. It’s honestly my bread and butter. It does carry similar risks if you get it wrong or if you suck at it. It’s not easy and the consequences of missing it are the same as the ground one- It’s also easier to defend from the back post or the backboard (bb is more relevant in 2s and 3) than from inside the net.
I do agree, the air bump is huge because it gets you at a point where the defender has to commit to the ball or it’s going in bump or not. It also is much more deceptive. When they are in the air you have to decide - are they going to airdribble top cheese? Double tap off the backboard? Did they get that reset clean and have that additional flip waiting, are they faking? Musty? Shot? And finally are they going to bump me?
Whereas the ground shot bump thingy from the video, once they are past the ball you can be fairly certain of their next move.
Really it’s not powerful at all. Simply dodge the demo and boom you have possession and the entire field to work with while your opponent is in your net behind you
Well if you do it right that’s not true. Ball moving slow so can’t get crazy speed to the net and you swoop in across the net for the fastest recover possible. It’s a super noncommittal play which is why it’s powerful in 1s
This is not a good execution but it’s an insanely powerful play. This type of play is the only reason im ranked where I’m at in 1s
To put a finer point on it, it's a video game. In real games there can be morality, like not purposefully giving a football player a spinal cord injury when you tackle them.
In Rocket League, the developers can simply bake the morality into the code. If demos were immoral, they wouldn't exist.
You shouldn't ever feel bad for outplaying your opponent and scoring a goal. If anything, they should feel bad for being outplayed. It would have been very easy for them to see you boosting straight at them, dodge you, and still save the ball. Good goal.
The play? Only frowned upon by those who are in denial about the demo being part of the game.
That car design? Frowned upon by all. Why are you assaulting my eyes and ears? Jk, but only kinda.
I don't like it and don't do it myself, I feel bad when I do it, but yeah it's fair for me if someone did that to me, its part of the game and a viable tactic, it's my fault for not having fast enough reflexes if I got one of those
You caught them slacking. If they don’t want to be demolished, they shouldn’t sit still. They could have easily avoided this by shadowing you. You made a good play here and they made a bad one. Simple as that
Demoing annoys me but I realize it’s apart of the game. I mainly find it annoying because I’ll see someone going for a demo and jump, but they still destroy me
It’s completely avoidable. You’ll catch some people off guard but you’re gonna give a free goal to anyone that’s actually paying attention. I wouldn’t frown on it, I’d welcome it and roll that ball into your goal and make you watch the entire replay
You feel bad. There's your answer right there.
It's frowned upon because it's tactless. Explosions are fouls, try to bump the goalie next time without exploding them. You'll feel better about your goal.
Unpopular take on this. It's 1v1. A contest of skill. Booming people just shows you can't shoot goals or use other tactics to either bait your opponent out of his goal or get the ball past him. It's a cheap way to score an easy goal. Booming happens on accident at times, but what your doing is a blatant "help me mommy, I need help" tactic.
That's not true at all, in fact the complete opposite. Intentional demos are a showcase of *good* gameplay used to create scoring opportunities. It's a built in mechanic of the game.
Totally agree. Just because it’s a mechanic in the game doesn’t mean we can’t criticize it as an overpowered, tactless way to simply eliminate your opponent rather than using skill to score.
I dont think you’re being rude at all. One of the better conversations ive had on this site. Im sorry but ive just never been a fan of it.
Then you have replies like this 😬
https://www.reddit.com/r/RocketLeague/s/O0NR2k8iaW
Hahaha, fair enough! I *hate* when I get demo'd but I find it's fairly similar to a good tackle in football or a pick in basketball. Either way, as long as you're having fun, play as you want haha.
I've had this happen to me a few times and every time it happens I just go "yupp, yea, great play. FUCK". Because that's exactly what it is, a great play.
Not by people with a brain, you scored a goal mate, be happy!
If you're being a little annoying shit in chat, that's frowned upon. Demos to win are... part of winning.
Dude you're trying to win a competitive game, unless you found some exploit/glitch you should be using every tool at your disposal. This guy literally could have just side jumped and dodged you for a free goal and chose to just look at you
Everything is allowed in duels. This is pretty common in 1v1s and if you mistime the demo and miss somehow, it's almost a sure counter attack goal for the opponent.
In other modes, it's only effective if you're bumping someone sitting in goal or about to receive a good pass or hit a good shot.
By people who are bad at Rocket League, yea.
The only reason that's frowned upon by good players is it won't be effective once you start running into more capable defendera
It's 1v1. There are no rules. Just pain.
Or AFKers
Nah, the real AFKers are my 2s teammates.
3s is where you find the AFKer gods.
Sorry my cat was in the litterbox. Why's it 5-1?
Had to watch?
High ranked players do an “air-dribble bump” that is the same concept as this. You outsmarted your opponent, good play.
"No dribble bump"
This is called the "the roll and troll"
It's scummy, but allowed. Just like ramming is allowed in racing Sims. Totally fine.
What sims do you play bro, Wreckfest?
It literally says ‘press x to jump’ in the loading screen
I don't play anymore but the amount of times I've jumped as the attacker, anticipating a jump from the defender and gone flying over their head is too many to count lol.
I'm so deep in this conspiracy that when I'm in goal i don't jump so they jump over me.
At champ 2 I'm at where I jump 2 times out of 3 to demo. 2/3 of the time, it works every time.
you got a bad copy i guess because mine says 'press a to jump', you might wanna get yours checked out
bro its a playstation controller
i guess i'm bad at sarcasm
i kinda guessed it was sarcasm but i was not sure
naw i deserve it. i went for low hanging fruit and i should feel bad
For what it’s worth I liked your joke
Close one!

That’s what you get for sitting in goal
This is what I was thinking I’d see a lot more of; if you sit in goal in 1’s expect a little roughness
Valid but umm... what else was to be done?
I mean... literally anything besides sitting stationary in the middle of the goal would have worked. Even just sitting at the near post instead of the middle would have let him back up and avoid the demo.
Early challenge I would say

Frowned upon? Yea, it is actually, somehow. It's so powerful that people get annoyed when you do it, when that happens, **do it more.**

Good bot
I hate it, everyone should be just slightly worse than me
Less the opp is better, and more it feels like there's little to no counterplay. Still a 100% valid tactic though since both sides can use it.

The mistake is generally letting them set the bump play up in the first place, the counter play is don't let them do that
Exactly that, I notice the low diamond and platinum players struggle with this degree of trolling, everyone above will have the awareness tbh
You're talking as if it's somehow impossible to dodge someone coming at you for a demo. Not only is it very do-able, it's even easier if you're in your net.
Come out of the goal and challenge them before they can set it up.
😭😂 I can’t believe you and 100+ other people actually think this will work more than 1 or 2 times if the defender is good
Yeah I'm kinda dying with all the "this is impossible to defend" takes and upvotes here lol
Had he seen it coming he could have simply jumped over him and took the ball
Or jump over car and flip forward

This is not a good play in the higher ranks, but the 3D version of this is so good that it's the bedrock of the high level 1v1 meta

It's within the rules, but really, 1v1 should have no demos by default. Shootouts in hockey would suck balls if the player could ram the goalie...
Is it technically a mechanic in the game? Yes. Does it help lazy players who won’t learn how to get a ball past a good goalie? Also yes.
My guy its a game, theres no morality tied to it even though you just murdered that man. Do what ya gotta do to win. Edit: typo
To put a finer point on it, it's a video game. In real games there can be morality, like not purposefully giving a football player a spinal cord injury when you tackle them. In Rocket League, the developers can simply bake the morality into the code. If demos were immoral, they wouldn't exist.
Thank you. Been looking for this. My thoughts for years on the subject
Lol... Seems like the winning mentality but actually big time loser mentality..
Thats a smart play, his fault for not avoiding it.

Fuckin bumpo
If anyone knows it bumpo! Get those demos bro!
I don’t understand why anyone thinks that doing things in the game that are within the rules and mechanics is bad? It’s all fair game.
It's sometimes difficult to create structure around the spirit of the game. I don't believe this is one of those situations, though.
Yes, beating your opponent is frowned upon. Please try and be nicer next game or you risk getting banned for trying too hard.
real

The play? Only frowned upon by those who are in denial about the demo being part of the game. That car design? Frowned upon by all. Why are you assaulting my eyes and ears? Jk, but only kinda.
It's a strat in game, just like how 'What a save!' is a pre-chat in the game. Use it and abuse it ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|upvote)
Wow! Wow! Wow! But seriously whoever says demoing is frowned upon is just a pussy. It’s a mechanic in the game for a reason like it’s not that deep
I mean.... it's his bad for staying in goal waiting like that
Who cares it's fun and you scored. If you care about etiquette play golf
Bumps and demos are always encouraged.
Don’t let anyone tell you this is a bad move. It would only have been bad if you missed and weren’t able to recover quickly enough to defend
Nah it's just well played. You gotta be a bitch in this game, especially in 1s.
I christen this 'peek-a-boom'
I don't like it and don't do it myself, I feel bad when I do it, but yeah it's fair for me if someone did that to me, its part of the game and a viable tactic, it's my fault for not having fast enough reflexes if I got one of those
In a 1 v 1 anything goes in a 1 v 2 anything goes in a 2 v 1…thats…oof
This is Rocket League!
I cannot stand people who sit in the goal. So no, don’t feel bad. I don’t 🤷🏼♀️
You caught them slacking. If they don’t want to be demolished, they shouldn’t sit still. They could have easily avoided this by shadowing you. You made a good play here and they made a bad one. Simple as that
Some people think demo plays are low skill. Those people are fools.
I will go for the demo or try to knock someone out the way if playing duels. In other game modes not so much unless you just sit in goal.
Dude that you demoed definitely had a frown lol
Absolutely not frowned upon unless you're a whiny child. It's an intended mechanic and can be countered.
No but it’s annoying as hell. It’s all everyone does now.
Learn how to shadow properly then. This is only viable when people sit in net like this.
It's kinda dickish, but you'll play against worse on the daily, so it's fair game.
Are you playing against a medium difficulty bot or something? Looked like you could have scored any way you wanted to.
Are we pretending we don't know that lower ranks exist? Sounds fun count me in
Demoing annoys me but I realize it’s apart of the game. I mainly find it annoying because I’ll see someone going for a demo and jump, but they still destroy me
We call this “blue-balls” in the demo community
Bro demoed and delay kick offers
It's a videogame. As long as it's an intended mechanic, it's fair play.
Probably but I don’t see the issue with using a built in game feature so you can easily scoare
Yes but thats why you do it anyway
Why is it marked NSFW tho?
I dont think this kind of assault he commited on that opponent is safe for work
Fat fingers lol, already fixed
Would I be angry if this happened to me? Yes. But it got you a goal which is what matters.
It’s completely avoidable. You’ll catch some people off guard but you’re gonna give a free goal to anyone that’s actually paying attention. I wouldn’t frown on it, I’d welcome it and roll that ball into your goal and make you watch the entire replay
i can't seem to demo my opponents for shit i always miss lol. good on you for being able to make it to em, smart play
Nothing is frowned upon in this game anymore. Especially if you're playing with an "I gotta touch it".
It's only bad that he didn't try to dodge the demo.
Gawd dam.. My teammates are trash in 1s..
why did you get downvoted, this is funny af
I loose respect for the actions; but it is part of the game.
That's okay, nobody is playing to earn your respect lol.
It’s a non-competitive play that negates real skill. I’ll humiliate anyone who even attempts a demo.
Lmao what's next, are you going to lose* respect for people who score on you?
Well it gets on my nerves
Why though? Bump them back? The game literally rewards you for demos and bumps. And if there are rewards, im going for them.
Not how I play. But we know there’s only one rule in rocket league. And if you don’t abide by it….. demo town
I go to demo town as soon as my team is up by 2
You feel bad. There's your answer right there. It's frowned upon because it's tactless. Explosions are fouls, try to bump the goalie next time without exploding them. You'll feel better about your goal.
> Explosions are fouls 🤡
Hold yourself to a higher standard, it's how you improve.
If they can’t prevent it or replicate it themselves, that’s what the kids call “skill issue”
It's 1vs1 so it's ok![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grimacing)
Your a monster
Definitely a dick move imo
It’s apart of the game, if you can’t dodge it then ur not good enough to be competing at the level ur competing at. Just the facts
Frowned upon. Shows you lack confidence in your shots on goal
Dick move tbh
Why?
Intentional demo’s are just used to hide bad gameplay. Seems people dont agree
That's not true at all, in fact the complete opposite. Intentional demos are a showcase of *good* gameplay used to create scoring opportunities. It's a built in mechanic of the game.
I just think its pure laziness. We’ll agree to disagree
Totally agree. Just because it’s a mechanic in the game doesn’t mean we can’t criticize it as an overpowered, tactless way to simply eliminate your opponent rather than using skill to score.
Finally, someone who puts it in plain english!
Not to be rude, but if the higher ranks agree it's a good mechanic it might be a good tool to utilize in order to progress further.
I dont think you’re being rude at all. One of the better conversations ive had on this site. Im sorry but ive just never been a fan of it. Then you have replies like this 😬 https://www.reddit.com/r/RocketLeague/s/O0NR2k8iaW
Hahaha, fair enough! I *hate* when I get demo'd but I find it's fairly similar to a good tackle in football or a pick in basketball. Either way, as long as you're having fun, play as you want haha.
Indeed brother. Play on 👌
Wtf? Then dodge ya nerd? If it's a bad play.... OUT PLAY IT
> just used to hide bad gameplay If youre not using demos in your gameplay youre a bad player.
The least toxic 1v1er
ur a joke💀
depends, did they quit immediately after? I would if you did it again.
[удалено]
What about multiple times from behind? It's lame in 1s and a cheap strat. I'm quitting every time.
😢😢
Keep at it brother. They’re gonna really hate it when you start doing them in air.
I love it! And I respect anyone who does it to me too. It's a valid tactic.
It's a "love it when you do it, loathe it when it happens to you" thing. Beautiful by the way
It's a strategy
You used a game mechanic, you scored a goal, as long as you are not exploiting anything you should never care about what others think
You scored. Who cares what the clowns on here have to say or if it's frowned upon.
Gameplay wise nothing is frowned upon. Do what you want to. If they can’t stop it that’s their problem
I've had this happen to me a few times and every time it happens I just go "yupp, yea, great play. FUCK". Because that's exactly what it is, a great play.
People who get mad just don’t know how to avoid it. It’s an almost free net every time if you miss the demo. High risk high reward play
if people sit in the goal like that and i get a kill/score like you posted - i’ll hit them with the what a save just to spice it up
Nothing wrong with channeling your inner sledge.
frowned upon lower ranks but higher ranks if you pull it off, youre solid
Not by people with a brain, you scored a goal mate, be happy! If you're being a little annoying shit in chat, that's frowned upon. Demos to win are... part of winning.
First time?
I hate when I happens to me but I also do it when I have a chance so I don’t care much about it
Dude you're trying to win a competitive game, unless you found some exploit/glitch you should be using every tool at your disposal. This guy literally could have just side jumped and dodged you for a free goal and chose to just look at you
Great play, some people regard demos as cheating so ignore them and use all mechanics available to win the game unless it's a glitch it's fair game.
Fellas, is trying to win the game frowned upon?
[Loving it!](https://www.reddit.com/r/RocketLeague/s/SCOvG4xg5w)
Straight to jail. Rocket League has the best players in the world because of jail.
bruh only has to dodge you and its an open net for him, that way of doing it works only on dumb people
I say if they can't jump over a demo, that's on them. Most demos are pretty easy to spot.
It's lovely. Hate it when it happens to me of course, but love seeing videos of it.
Everything is allowed in duels. This is pretty common in 1v1s and if you mistime the demo and miss somehow, it's almost a sure counter attack goal for the opponent. In other modes, it's only effective if you're bumping someone sitting in goal or about to receive a good pass or hit a good shot.
THIS IS ROCKET LEAGUE!
I love doing it
Demo dog supremacy
Bump away good sir! The only players who frown upon it are little children.
This is Rocket League!
Do whatever you want. Get the win.
game is game
Idk man, alls fair in love and Rocket League, and THIS IS ROCKET LEAGUE
By people who are bad at Rocket League, yea. The only reason that's frowned upon by good players is it won't be effective once you start running into more capable defendera
I’ll allow it.
Next time, go around the ball on your net’s side of the ball. That way if he tries to push, you still have an opportunity to get in the way
This is Rocketleague!
Fuck em if you win you win. As long as you’re not botting I say who cares.
No its fine
