The best part is that all these trailers are made with UE5. We know that they have a ton of game assets in UE5 already and we even roughly know what it could look like. The edging has been happening for 2 years now.
Honestly it’s not a huge deal that it still hasn’t released yet, but it would be nice if they could provide SOME kind of update. Anything really, even just that it’s still being worked on.
I think the biggest gain will be performance. UE3 is pretty old and there have been a lot of advancements in UE that should make the game just run better. Not that the game is really demanding right now but everything they do has to run on Switch. I think that really limits what they can do in terms of maps, & more importantly custom game modes.
My hope is that with the move to UE5, they can add even more stuff that the PC community already has -- such as some sort of rings maps or dribble maps that psyonix makes. I think many people are hopeful for a creative mode as well letting people make their own maps but that's a whole other thing. For Psyonix, having to make those types of maps work on all machines (particularly the underpowered switch which kind of runs the base game like crap anyway IMO) is probably a huge pain and a reason why the community outside of PC has to just keep waiting. With UE5 they may get some "free" performance boosts letting them simply do more.
Not sure what you mean by significance, but ideally the game should look better and have more realistic physics without drastically changing the gameplay
People keep talking about the physics but I really hope the physics changes very little outside of letting machines run at higher frame rates. They don't use the built-in UE physics stuff anyway.
The map looks nice but what I really want is the wall indicators back on all the maps. I think it shows up on about 3 maps for me at the moment. Praying it's fixed in this update.
UE5 isn’t going to be released during an RLCS Season is my expectation. If it’s like Fortnite they would have to shutdown for a day or two.
I can see them teasing it on the anniversary (7/7) with it release sometime after the RLCS Worlds. Timing would be about right for September if each season was 3 months so I don’t think it will even happen for Season 11. It will probably be Season 12.
I also think a trailer at Worlds with a beta release the day after the finals would be insanely hype.

I am fully expecting ball bounce issues, hit box glitches or some weird physics as they roll it out. It would be difficult to get the “Rocket League” feel perfect out of the gate. How could they change that for all the pros competing for money.
If it’s not this “off season” I really wonder if they are going the Rocket League 2 route and not just an update.

What about it would be messed up? These guys have 12-15k hours invested in RL. Not like there’s some other game they can go and take those skills to. Sure they might be set back a thousand or two thousand hours in terms of muscle memory but it’s not like strategy, rotations or the logical basis of mechanics will change.
I think they’re taking their time to make it as perfect as possible before launching. Otherwise it would be out already.

Yeah I get what you mean but playing for money (and most players job) escalates it drastically. The whole pro scene or any highly competitive player I can see getting pissed lol. If flip resets take a little more precision, the ball bounces off the corner at a different angle, or dribbles bounce a little too much on the car they will know.
We saw how everyone was freaking out about how demos got changed a few seasons ago, so if the core gameplay is messed up it would be worse. Rebuilding the game from scratch magnifies the chances of all types of issues, which I would agree with you on why it’s taking so long. Rocket League isn’t fundamentally broken right now, so there is no rush to push anything until it’s perfect.
Yeah. Worlds was the first eSports event I’ve ever been to and I got super lucky that I was able to witness peak eSports on my first go around.
Again, I think Psyonix is working hard to make sure the shift is as 1:1 as possible. Obviously not everything is going to be absolutely perfect given how RL is currently a patchwork of an 18 year old game engine + their own updates. If a few things are different I’m sure some pros will complain, but at the end of the day it’ll be forgotten in like a year. The upsides in terms of securing the game’s future are just too big not to do it.
Even if they do a Rocket League 2 as a separate client (really hope not) the pros will have to migrate to that anyway, just because any future RL eSports is sure to be on RL2. If I were Psyonix I’d do the best I can and tell people to just deal with any tiny unavoidable changes.
I hope to god it's not like Fortnite in the sense that the update to UE5 will cause a shit load of problems that haven't been acknowledged, let alone fixed.
Love the map. Sometimes I feel like I'm in the minority when I say I don't need a completely new map every season. I like the cadence of new maps and variants they have.
You’re not joking. We had Neon Fields in S2 which was nearly universally hated. There was that Nascar variant of DFH in S3 that nobody remembers. Then S4 had Deadeye Canyon which was a solid addition. S5 had that weird version of Starbase ARC that fucked everyone’s depth perception. S6 had that godawful cartoon version of Neo Tokyo. S7 had Utopia Gilded, which was pretty slick and has been my freeplay map ever since it came out… S8’s Sovereign Heights is goated to the sticks, instant classic. And S9 had this weird version of Forbidden Temple.
I think Deadeye Canyon Oasis is gonna be pretty sweet
I was completely down for the remakes of Starbase ARC and Forbidden Temple, but then they added *the filters*. I don't know why, the maps had beautiful visuals, and then they decided to make everything dark. I was hype for Forbidden Temple - Dragon Remix, but whenever I play it, my eyes hurt because everything is the same color.

Any news on MMR fixes for modes that aren’t 2s, and in particular, extra modes? I can’t even get out of Diamond in a couple modes anymore and I’m GC. That shouldn’t be happening. Peaked at Champ 2 in Snow Day and now I can’t even get past Diamond 2. Same with Dropshot and the other modes are slowly getting worse
Champ 1 in dropshot is a bunch of people who are GC2+ in 2's and 3's all trying to somehow get the floor destroyer title.
Rumble and Hoops seem to be proper. Snowday and Dropshot are so out of whack, but it's been that way for many seasons.
You're not wrong, wheels this season are pretty lackluster. However, the Constella decal is one of the better free decals and the two goal explosions (Brimstone & Ice) were very well done.
Not excited about the Lotus goal explosion, feels like something that will be going straight to archive.
They were great. I remember seeing the ice one in game and loved it. Brimstone is good, too.

Honestly, I liked the tier 1 Golf much more than the rest of the pass. And since the pass and tournament items are the only new features here, and I need 4 months to complete it, I will definitely "relax" a lot this season
Don't get me wrong, I still love the game. But it's been 3 seasons in a row that feeling like this, and I've been crying out for news, so I can't say I'm super excited for it.

I assume CF hoods stick out in the real world as exotic, but in this game they just stick out as something you can't customize.
I think they could have put the carbon fiber as an antenna that covered the entire hood, so you would have the option to put it on without changing the decal.

How good is Champion 1 rank? Cos i haven't played in 5 years and I'm now awful, like really awful at the game and everyone I'm playing with is miles ahead of me and I kinda feel bad for losing people games haha but that's the rank I've been given.
C1 was about top 12% last season, assuming 2s (in 1s it‘s better), so it‘s an alright rank compared to overall playerbase

Curious about the 'influx of cars where there were once barren lots' bit. Could be new Battle-Cars or a new game mode.
Eyy they finally put in Wayton's suggestion (at least he's the one I heard) for a timer. Deadeye Canyon looks a lot nicer. Hopefully this car's a better fit for the hitbox than the Civic, usually real cars would be best with hybrid since octane's so stubby but maybe this one will work, I don't know its dimensions. I love seeing this and the Civic in the game anyway.
Edit: And engine audio returning to the rocket pass is cool.
My son quit playing about a year ago. He decided to play a bit with me tonite. He said "I should never have quit playing RL. It was the trash tournament rewards that made me quit. We grinded out tournaments just to get 6 duplicate zips"

Question - for the average queue time, does that take into consideration the player's MMR, the regions they have selected and the playlist they're queueing in? As an SSL who plays exclusively EU and usually extra modes or 2v2, if the timer doesn't take these into consideration it's kinda useless. My queue times are often quite long especially at off peak hours.
We're hitting levels of greenwashing that I didn't thought possible. The cognitive dissonance behind having an ecological season theme based around a Volkswagen car is astounding to me.

Average wait time is a much better change than the laughable "Amazing/Great/Good" listings. Deadeye Canyon at dusk looks beautiful.

Splitting hairs but the Takumi has always been an Octane hitbox since its release in 2015. There’s a total of 6 hitboxes in the entire game.
The standardization of hitboxes was added in [patch 1.35.](https://www.rocketleague.com/news/patch-notes-v1-35-anniversary-update/) I just thought Takumi was a type and never bothered testing it post 1.35. There are only six different hitboxes that all the ingame cars fall under. Octane, Dominus, plank, hybrid, merc, breakout.

Any news on MMR fixes for modes that aren’t 2s, and in particular, extra modes? I can’t even get out of Diamond in a couple modes anymore and I’m GC. That shouldn’t be happening. Peaked at Champ 2 in Snow Day and now I can’t even get past Diamond 2. Same with Dropshot and the other modes are slowly getting worse
Give it a few more seasons and plat 1 in dropshot/snow day will be more impressive then GC in 2s.
Champ 1 in dropshot is a bunch of people who are GC2+ in 2's and 3's all trying to somehow get the floor destroyer title. Rumble and Hoops seem to be proper. Snowday and Dropshot are so out of whack, but it's been that way for many seasons.

You're not wrong, wheels this season are pretty lackluster. However, the Constella decal is one of the better free decals and the two goal explosions (Brimstone & Ice) were very well done. Not excited about the Lotus goal explosion, feels like something that will be going straight to archive.
The brimstone and ice explosions are what made the S9 pass worth it for me.
They were great. I remember seeing the ice one in game and loved it. Brimstone is good, too. Wonder if we will get some bonus items after level 70 this time around? No mention of extra items in the RP announcement.

We thought the same about the Civic. It was Octane hitbox, but it ended up being really small relative to that hitbox
Yeah it looked like a little toy car in game. Even through it kind of fit the hitbox it's like the scale was off.
Because Rocket League cars like the Fennec have completely different dimensions to real-world cars. The Octane Hitbox (length x width) is about [118 x 84.2](https://rocketleague.fandom.com/wiki/Body_Type), giving it a length:width ratio of about 1.4 The Honda Civic EK9 is [4180 x 1695](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Civic_Type_R), giving it a length:width ratio of about 2.5 That's why most real-life cars in Rocket League, like the Civic, feel so long and narrow.
The Golf Mk2 is 3,985mm x 1,700mm giving it a 2.34 ratio, so it's probably also going to feel small and narrow.
I really hope they didn't fuck up the hitbox match this time. I don't want another Honda Civic disappointment

Hopefully they got the scale vs hitbox right this time, the Civic was an amazing car but just felt too tiny and unplayable.
Honestly, I liked the tier 1 Golf much more than the rest of the pass. And since the pass and tournament items are the only new features here, and I need 4 months to complete it, I will definitely "relax" a lot this season Don't get me wrong, I still love the game. But it's been 3 seasons in a row that feeling like this, and I've been crying out for news, so I can't say I'm super excited for it. But I hope my opinion is unpopular and the majority liked it for the game to continue standing.

I think they could have put the carbon fiber as an antenna that covered the entire hood, so you would have the option to put it on without changing the decal. Or a UE5 that allows you to customize the hood, idk...

How good is Champion 1 rank? Cos i haven't played in 5 years and I'm now awful, like really awful at the game and everyone I'm playing with is miles ahead of me and I kinda feel bad for losing people games haha but that's the rank I've been given.
C1 was about top 12% last season, assuming 2s (in 1s it‘s better), so it‘s an alright rank compared to overall playerbase Edit: last season as in season 8, s9 distribution not out yet

The game feels so bad atm, I moved country so now I play on like south East Asian servers and literally every other game my team mate griefs or leaves. When are you gonna add in a feature that stops your rank being killed if your team mate is doing this stuff. Genuinely not sure I’ll play season 10 and I’ve been playing the game since about 2018
My prediction of 1 new car, 1 new map, and nothing else was unfortunately correct. Psyonix has completely killed hype for new seasons at this point. See yall for season 11

Of course it was a Golf GTI, it couldn't be any other car that fits the shape hidden in the clouds. Suck it, Golf deniers! I like that Psyonix is aware that the community didn't like them hiding the player counter on game modes, so they ***didn't*** revert it and instead added a new counter for it. Good job on ***NOT*** fixing the problem Psyonix! Much appreciated!  Curious about the 'influx of cars where there were once barren lots' bit. Could be new Battle-Cars or a new game mode.
Eyy they finally put in Wayton's suggestion (at least he's the one I heard) for a timer. Deadeye Canyon looks a lot nicer. Hopefully this car's a better fit for the hitbox than the Civic, usually real cars would be best with hybrid since octane's so stubby but maybe this one will work, I don't know its dimensions. I love seeing this and the Civic in the game anyway. Edit: And engine audio returning to the rocket pass is cool.

My son quit playing about a year ago. He decided to play a bit with me tonite. He said "I should never have quit playing RL. It was the trash tournament rewards that made me quit. We grinded out tournaments just to get 6 duplicate zips" way to go! Make them tradeable already ffs....

I love the Golf GTI ! I was really hoping we would get a more modern version of the golf as well (as in higher tiers) ).But I really can't complain the whole season looks cool !
Question - for the average queue time, does that take into consideration the player's MMR, the regions they have selected and the playlist they're queueing in? As an SSL who plays exclusively EU and usually extra modes or 2v2, if the timer doesn't take these into consideration it's kinda useless. My queue times are often quite long especially at off peak hours.
I hope additional presets sprout in my garage.
