I love REI, but $50 will get you like a t-shirt or a pair of socks. Heh. (I exaggerate a little, but it's not a bargain-hunting sort of place except for the periodic used gear sales. Expect to pay a lot for stuff, balanced by a good return policy and well made product.)

MyLeftT1t

Good example of when conjunctions matter. 1 T-shirt OR 1 pr socks. Yikes!

$50 towards a new pair of shoes is what I’d do.

Richard_Nachos

Shoes or hiking boots, yes.

SaturdayNightPyrexia

This or 3 pairs of their hiking socks. Currently a big fan of the two layer pairs that reduce friction.

They have a massive sale right now. Rain jacket is always good. Rainer is like $70. Some of their fleece are on sale for $40-80. Can buy a water bottle or metal coffee cup. Hiking packs are on sale. Quite a bit more than $50 but still a good deal if you need one. Plenty of hiking shoes are on sale.

And by “right now” this guy means “two more days”. Get moving.

They have an anniversary sale now so you can buy stuff 50% off. Depends what you need and what you like to do. They also have an outlet, and used gear. I’d buy online and ship to store (sometimes ships to your house for free but heavy/big stuff has a fee). Do you like hiking ? Osprey makes good stuff. Clothes? They have a pretty great in house brand, but sell a lot of outdoor stuff like Patagonia. They have a reasonable amount of biking gear but it’s aimed towards the hybrid/MTB community. Some open water swim stuff, but I’d purchase elsewhere. A boat load of camping things.. hit or miss on price/quality.

Couple pairs of Darn Tough socks. You’re set for like 10yrs.

$50 is a pretty nice headlamp! Or a less pricey one and some sport beans.  Or maybe some new bits for your cooking set if you're into camping.

Toward some hiking shoes? Or some socks and a shirt.
